An interesting thought,I can see where you are coming from but you have to look at the picture a bit closer, the meets which include the birthday bash and the Christmas meets, seem to be supported mainly by members who live local,or other members who happen to be around at the time,A lot of the moderators live a long way from the area and therefore their attendance is limited.

A good forum needs good moderators to keep people in check and to ensure that the forum is run correctly, luckily with our forum they do tend to take a back seat and let us get on with it ,hoping that if it starts to get a bit lively commonsense will prevail and everything returns to normality.

There will always be some who do the job better than others but I believe we have a good mix.

The question I would like answered is "How do moderators get selected?",do they volunteer their services or are they approached and asked,or are they mainly the people who set up the NBF after defecting from another forum.

One thing that I have observed is they all stick together and support each others decisions whether they are right or wrong, making it a win win situation for them.

  2. I think it's right to point out that both David and Dan we're expressing the views of 'The Team' when they commented on Neils post. To single either out for criticism is wrong :norty:

It was only a matter of days ago Neil was warned about the content of one of his posts, this he made no appology for and here we are again! There is only so many times we can try and make it clear, that a breach of the TOS will NOT be tolerated.

    Jimbo

I suggest you read the thread in question again, then come back and tell me Neil was the only one to breach the TOS,there were several comments made which in my opinion breach the TOS yet nothing was mentioned about those posts, even the meaning of a certain user name even breaches the TOS,just think about it,what looks normal to others could offend some,I will not say what it is in open forum,if you would like to contact me via a pm I will tell you my concerns over it

One day a MOD will say "Sorry I got it wrong",now that will be the day!

  3. This forum is unusual in that some members meet up in person and persue life long friendships, somewhat akin to a club.

However many on here and many, if not most forums, restrict their communication to the written word. This means that you are judged on the content and meaning of your posts.

Posts written in haste can sometimes convey a meaning that was not intended by the OP and can create an undesirable impression.

On a general note: I find it sad when members feel it necessary to anounce their departure in a flurry of emotion ....... surely it's better to simply stop posting for a while?

    :wave

    Spot on Smellyloo

I myself have been subject to to being branded a bad person on another forum, all by people who have not even met me,unfortunately people do judge on postings and make their own conclusions to what people are like.

I would say all the members who have met Neil will come up with the same answer.

He is a very polite and a very nice person.

  4. theirs is no doubt in my mind that this thread should have never been allowed to go this far. does bill hold racisit and homophobic veiws ? no not at all, did he post a few ill thought out comments yes he did in my opinion. why was this thread allowed ? what does the subject matter have to do with the broads etc, etc. i found the fact that dan felt the need to post his comments re bills postings in public very distastefull and should of been done behind closed doors as it came across to me like a public and open put down of bill. i really do hope this thread is looked of now as it has gone to far. their are many other forums out their where these veiws can be aired.

Andy, you have hit the nail right on the head,at least 2 of us are supporting Neil.sadly others are not

  5. It's funny how people's perception of the same thing can be so different.

I read that post from Dan as loosely referring to all of the interesting posts and photos that Neil has put on here, and admitting that his input would be a loss to the NBN as a whole. Quite magnanimous of Dan really.

Watch you do not fall off the fence Strowager, some of your comments did not help Neils cause

  6. It's a shame to leave, far better to have just accepted that homophobic or racist comments were not welcomed and to have respected the request to not post in that vein, which I think in reality is not unreasonable.

It's up to you Neil, though its seems a shame & un-necessary to my mind to spoil your enjoyment and that of others who enjoy chatting over lots of other subjects, but you do not have a choice if you cannot adhere to the simple, and fairly standard as forums go, TOS of not posting homophobic or racist comments.

    Dan

You just had to have the last dig at Neil didn't you Dan,its bad enough that Neil has left,I think you are totally out of order, something has certainly rattled your cage or were some of the comments a bit closer to home

  7. This is a sad day,I have been lucky to have met Neil and his dear wife Karen ,they are both very nice people and I am very proud to to have met them,Neil was the 1st forum member I met,he took the trouble to come and see My wife and I whilst we were caravanning in Dorset,it was then when we struck a friendship and we have met a few times since then.

Neil is no way a bigot and do not derserve to be referred to as one,it is a very sad day that he has decided to leave the forum over some of the comments made against him, which in my opinion should have been made directly to him via a PM and not aired in open forum as this looked to be a personal attack against him.

In my time here Neil has made several interesting posts and I always looked forward to reading them all.

No one can question Neils knowledge and love of the Norfolk Broads he has been coming here for years and I hope he will for many years to come,if you are reading this Neil I hope you change your mind and return, the NBF will not be the same without you.

On a positive note I have Neils mobile and I shall definitely be keeping in touch.

  8. Have to agree Lou, I can place no other interpretation on that comment. I wonder if perhaps I was unclear earlier, though I fail to see how so I will obviously have to be clearer, The next ill informed bigoted comment that appears here WILL result in the thread being locked, you do yourselves and this forum a severe disservice with such insular nonsense.

I agree David the thread is getting a bit out of hand,it do not matter what what nationality, race or religion the people who committed the offences are, they should be punished for their crimes accordingly, they have committed a crime and should be made to suffer the consequences.

  9. I think the Online Dictionary's shorter

"One who is strongly partial to one's own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ."

is much more succinct than that somewhat tortuous definition from http://www.bigotdefinition.com/

I comes down to a matter of opinion,I could have posted the online version but chose the longer version instead,it gives a more in depth meaning not just an abbreviated account.

However I would not try to be clever to undermine another member by my post .

  10. Daytona-bill:

Unfortunately your claim not to be bigot/racist are not supported by some of your posts. Perhaps you could accept that this is the impression that some of your comments leave and moderate future postings accordingly so as to illustrate you are the thourougly nice guy you claim to be.

Having been a member of this forum for some time I can assure you that people on here are not afraid to post their views however it can take some effort to word the postings so as not to offend individuals, which is an important part of living within a community

In today’s world of religious, political, economic and social indifferences, it is important to know where these differences are emerging from. The reasons could be many. Is it because of the cast difference? Is it the difference in the social status? Is it due to the presence of economic non-equivalence? Or is it due to the presence of the few people who cannot stand anything going against their views? Bigots, as they are popularly known, are the class of people who is biased towards his own interests, his own class and his own groups. These groups range from people to people. Some comprise religion in this group; the others include the barriers in race or politics. A bigot never tolerates those who differ from his opinion.

These kinds of persons are not a profit to the society but a bigot is a very beneficial person to his own group. It is needless to say that the devotion that one can expect from a bigot towards the group in which he has a position cannot be matched anywhere in the fellow groups. Being completely biased towards his own religion or race, a bigot can even cross his limits to reach beyond the confined rules and regulations of the society to promote and publicize his opinions. This is where a group earns a lot from. Having this kind of intolerable devotion towards the group, the views the group wants to express reach out to a wider audience, only because of the bigots present in completely active state.

The other aspect of a bigot though is not that appreciable. Having the tendency of getting wild if someone else has a different point of opinion other than his, a bigot can never be an active participant in the progress of a country. Such kind of behavior can go unnoticed in smaller issues. But for bigger affairs like religion and race, this attitude costs the country dearly. Let’s take religion for instance. Going by a bigot’s point of view, the only religion that should exist according to him in this world is the one which he belongs to. The other ones seem to be a fallacy for him. That is not the right way to lead a life. In a democratic country, every individual has a right to live and express his emotions and expressions freely, but that does not mean that one starts opposing something he did not like in other’s religion.

Another important aspect on which these kinds of persons differ is a burning issue. The issue is of race. This is a more prominent and more sentimental affair when it comes to the expression of views. It becomes really difficult for a country to handle comments which attack different race. A bigot, though, does not think about it for a moment and the stubbornness he has is difficult to counter. His intolerance of the fact that there might be a person of different race who is better than him is the main problem.

Having understood both the aspects of a bigot, it’s up to us as to which one we would like to stick to.

I do not believe after reading the description of a Bigot that Neil falls into this category, although I could probably name a few people who do

  11. Imagine there's no Heaven

    It's easy if you try

    No hell below us

    Above us only sky

    Imagine all the people

    Living for today

    Imagine there's no countries

    It isn't hard to do

Nothing to kill or die for

    And no religion too

    Imagine all the people

    Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer

But I'm not the only one

I hope someday you'll join us

And the world will be as one

    Imagine no possessions

    I wonder if you can

No need for greed or hunger

    A brotherhood of man

    Imagine all the people

    Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer

But I'm not the only one

I hope someday you'll join us

And the world will live as one

If only, John, your words could become reality, then this world of ours would become a better place to live and bring up familys for future generations.

  12. It will be very interesting to see what sentences are given to the ones who get to court.

Bring back the birch and flog them live on TV.

Give more power to the Police who are frightened to act forcefully in case they get sued for excessive force.

If i went out and burnt someones property down,I would probably get a life sentence or at least 20 years, this lot will more likely get tagged and serve a few hours community service.

Send them down for 20 years apiece, this is an attack against our Country, and they should be treated the same as terrorists

  13. I have known Bass to be caught up as far as Brundall, the angler did not know what it was.

I fish Breydon for Bass regulary during the summer and have had plenty of bass out of there,we use peeler crab or Ragworm as bait, out "Hotspot is the just under the bridge and between the 3rd and 5th post, also you will get a few big flounders as well.

Best to fish on an incoming tide as the Bass run up with the tide.

  14. Ah but after a whole year we still don't know what he's called... Oddly 1 year on I've just read the thread about 'how do I keep up with an S38 blues' well I've moved on from that, I'm now suffering from 'How do I sit 12 people comfortably on my boat whilst I drive it around the marina with a joystick blues! cheers

    She is named "Georgie"
