  1. There is a thread here somewhere about people videoing other peoples mishaps and how wrong it all is. I have posted on that thread on how awful it is for poor souls who mess up and then have it splashed all over t internet.

However, in this instance, I would pay to see our ex Navy, tough, all round nice guy Griff taken out by a blade of grass :default_biggrin:

Which is exactly the point. It's reasonable to assume those filmed smashing into, or stuck under the bridge would rather not appear. Why should they be forced to appear on camera, when the person filming doesn't?

Absolutely spot on. I get sick of seeing some poor soul mess up, having it filmed, splashed all over the internet, being ridiculed and called idiots etc

Do these people who film these events mess up in life? I would think so, glass houses and all that

  3. Yes, it is like talking to friends in the pub. In fact MT, or whatever your name is :default_biggrin: you probably know more about me than my friends down the pub.

I also would just like to add that I like your ever changing Avatar even though I keep reading Mophead :facepalm:and yes, this is a friendly forum, long may it continue too.

    Now then,

I'm due to arrive onboard this Friday evening

I could do with a hand this Saturday morning.  I have a portable thicknessing planer to move out of our wetshed locker into my van, its heavy, a two man lift into our trolley than a two man lift into my van.  Anyone likely to be around?

Then I have six heavy leisure batteries to change over.

Then on completion I will be sailing to Thurne dyke (Or maybe another location?)- It'd be easier with a crew member onboard to assist me with lowering the canopy down for Ludham bridge if there is less than 7ft7" headroom

Then a hand to consume a few libations in the Lion followed by a return cruise to Griffs Corner on t Ant again through Ludham bridge

Then overnight where I'll be doing some bank clearance prior to sunset (Wx permitting) followed by libations and a film of some description on t goggle box prior to lights out

Sunday morning, a fairly early start, cruise back to wetshed and home.  I need to be back at home nlt 1600 so must depart Stalham nlt 1200

I'll provide the scran onboard and do the cooking Saturday teatime (Unless you wanna do it)

So if anyone fancies a river trip with an overnighter - Let me know (Able bodied only please)

I can of course do the whole lot on my todd but will struggle moving the planer and thought some one might like a trip out, there is room for up to four crew - You'll need bedding / sleeping bag

    Cheers,

    Griff

I can come and cook for you Griff but you might be better off having a meal in t pub :default_biggrin:

  6. Thank you so much for a fantastic holiday tale. I am so pleased you liked Melody. Just as you described I too have sat in her aft well enjoying the night mud weighted on a Broad. You just can't beat it.

I've also raced back to Richardson's way past 9, the engineers, hands on hips, pointing at their watch's shaking their heads :default_biggrin: All good humoured though, I have often joked with them that they can't see in all the boats at once, so I'm doing them a favour :default_biggrin:

    Thank you once again

  7. Have a whistle to hand. It may not stop them trying to con the old and the vulnerable, it may even result in you being told to have sex and travel but it will put a bit of a crimp in their day :default_biggrin:

We are hiring a boat in May from Stalham and Sutton was my choice to stay on the last night before returning the boat on Monday morning but I am now thinking of retuning to the boatyard on the last night and going to the Swan by car.  A better move perhaps? :default_sad:

Yes the Wayford Bribge is open to Non Residents. Plenty of outside seating available. I stay there occasionally and can highly recommended it.

Hi Alan, I totally agree with Graham, such a lovely pub, you can have a meal and a few drinks on your last night. You won't be disappointed

Just to get back on track, a brilliant post from MM.

I do hope the Broads Authority are reading this. I would just like to say that labelling people "Feral" is disgusting. Even the subject of this thread is not feral, just foul mouthed

There's nothing worse than getting your rowlocks caught on something :8_laughing:

Or your pretty summer dress caught in the rowlocks. Picture this.....clamouring out of a dinghy (not the most dignified thing to do at the best of times) getting the hem of your dress caught in the rowlocks, hearing a massive rip. Embarrassment ten fold, dignity zero :default_biggrin:

  10. I have no problem with live a boards. As has already been pointed out, some are living this way of life because they can't afford to live in a house with a nice car, a decent job, things most of us take for granted

The one's that take advantage, who treat moorings and others with disrespect, using foul language at Rangers, other river users etc are the one's that shouldn't be allowed to get away with such behaviour and give genuine live a boards a bad reputation

  11. I don't remember anything like this happening when I was a little girl playing on the green after having a nice lunch in the hotel and then doing the same with my own boys. Such a lovely place to stop and a lovely hotel too but then we only visit once or twice a year so what do I know, rose tinted glasses perhaps

Please don't be put off visiting, don't let nasty people who think they are above the law win.

Could that bird be a red kite? My son spotted a couple of birds that he thought were red kites when we were on the Broads last month. I read somewhere that they are starting to appear on the Broads, which is probably bad news, as they could push out marsh harriers. Red kites are becoming a pest in certain areas of the chiltern hills.

No Helen, this is a red Kite :default_biggrin: x

  13. So, I had a consultant at the hospital where I was being treated who was a very nice, gentle Irishman, lovely accent but after every sentence he would finish with "Do you follow me" it drove me crazy in the end which will explain a lot :default_biggrin:

Dear Floydraser, I believe it's going to be a nice weekend innit. So, I hope you manage to get afloat

Bye. bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye :default_biggrin:

Any outdoor activity experience for youngsters is the bees knees in my book, as long as it involves some discomfort, effort and the chance to show leadership, teamwork and problem solving. It builds resilience and self reliance.
So I just love seeing these groups out on the water.

    I couldn't agree more

I've always made sure my boys spend lots of time outside and not stuck in front of a screen, go on activities with the school and after school clubs, camping, fishing, boating etc. I believe children can learn valuable skills and lessons in the great outdoors

The other day though, my eldest threw a strop and asked me why he couldn't go on his x box all day long like his friend and how his mum is so cool to allow him to. I replied that it was a good job I'm not your friends mum then because I'm not that cool, he wouldn't like me very much and he's still going on that walk :default_biggrin:

  16. Probably a waste of food but I always throw things out by the time they reach their use by date. What's the difference between use by and sell by dates? Also, can anyone tell me how to cook the best soft boiled eggs? My kids love them but I seem to get them too runny or too hard, either way they seem to end up in the bin. Is it three minutes once they start to boil?

I'm wondering if a crash course in cookery will do me any good but my children seem to think not :default_biggrin:

I once burned boiled eggs, the saucepan as well as the eggs had to be binned

  17. I do believe too, that practice makes perfect. We've all messed up from time to time, it happens, except for Griff of course :default_biggrin:

I reckon by the Summer you'll be taking Dungraftin through Wroxham Bridge backwards

All the best and good luck

  18. She's a lovely little boat. I'm not knocking Barnes but with the tired upholstery and the problems you've had, to call it Elite is a bit of a stretch

We had this on a boat we hired from one of the big yards. The furniture was faded and stained and the pull out bed in the saloon was missing a leg so you couldn't use it. The next day we went straight back, I took the saloon seating into the office and asked them would they pay nearly two grand to sleep on that

We got an upgrade to one of their new boats and an extra night. Sometimes it's a good thing to complain, we're good at that :default_biggrin:

Great write up and photos of your holiday Simon, thank you
