    Stereotype alert... Kebab restaurant...
  2. Have to confess, looking at the 'artists' in todays 'charts' (or should that be digital download statistics) most of 'em these days are someone unknown featuring someone else unknown.... One popular song right now I think sounds like Michael Jackson... On declaring this my kids (11 & 13) just glared at me!!!
  3. Lucky the newer boat engines aren't setup to run with AdBlue - I hate the smell of heated pi55 in the morning! I generally find a broads boat at rickvote is a pain due to the vibration - although it can drown out the 'Ball & Chain' which can be a plus point...
  4. Nope, but nor have I either! Engine was running, just not under any great strain, against the tide and neither was there any hint of any skirts lifting. I was satisfied it was fine, boat was still secure with ropes looped around mooring posts and wife had control of them..... Engine was running and settled into a nice rhythm.... If it had stalled within 5 mins, I doubt we'd even be passed Pye's moorings.......
  5. Cheap as chips into the bargain. It's a lot of boat for just 38ft...
  6. As an aside, while moored at Loddon in April (Monday 10th I believe) aboard Mercury, we upped sticks and left the following morning at about 7 - as there is no real strong tide or risk of careering down towards Breydon with no control, the wife simply loosened the stern ropes (we were at the staithe) while I upped the mud weight, when she was ready we started up and gently pootled off at tick over. Very little disturbance to the neighbours - although I do hope we woke foghorn leghorn, his wife and daughter in the private boat next to us to get 'em back for being unable to TALK QUIETLY AFTER DARK!!!
  7. Yep - sure do. But when run with no load on the crankshaft (i.e. out of gear and idling), the pistons can 'rattle' about in the bores rather than allowing the piston rings to scrape the oil off... this causes the bores to glaze and.... you can tell an engine with glazed bores because they proper stink. Low sulphur fuel doesn't help the aroma either.... I know being spontaneuos is great - but a burp is spontaneous! - plan each days cruising so you can have a hot shower, charge all your gadgets, have hot water left for washing up (no fighting over this chore please; you wash, I'll dry) and the boat batteries get charged.
  8. What's the betting they then go on social media bad mouthing the hire yard cos they used up all their fuel deposit and more....?
  9. Unless they thruster is hydraulically operated...
  10. Not if you adhere to the speed limits in this country... Perhaps the drivers haven't mastered 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th gears yet in that case The risk to a turbo is cutting the engine while the turbo is spinning at full chat thus robbing the bearings of oil.....
  11. Are the ridiculously loud exhausts compensating for something..... ???
  12. Indeed - if we plan to leave (GYYS for example) early to catch the tides and have boats immediately next to us, we let them know that evening what we aare planning and to apologise if this wakes them up. At least they know then....
  13. And if you can't restart the engine.....? While on board the skipper can quickly retrieve the errant dropped rope then be back at the helm to spare his mooring assistants blushes with some clever manoeuvring... not having to faff restarting etc. Its a matter of minutes - no great burden for a sympathetic neighbour to bear......
  14. The trick to avoid endless 'running when moored' is to; Plan ahead Shower when on the move (not recommended for single helming), get wet under the shower turn off water, wash, rinse. You'll eek out a lot of hot water use this way. Charge peripherals while underway Don't use the telly - you are on holiday for a rest, not 'more of the same please'! Cruise lots - always with the tide wherever possible.. Simples
