  1. Many thanks Iain. Oh to be computer literate. If the granddaughters are not around I'm stuffed!
  2. LThat's an old post that's popped up courtesy of this pesky tablet I think it was a thread from several months ago regarding bad manners on the river Honestly this tablet has a life of it's own and it's own agenda I suspect ..Nothing to do with me being abso!ute rubbish at using it of course. Regards Carole
  3. I feel a campaign from some boating affiliated organisation or other is called for. If we're going to undo any of the the damage inflicted on us by Brussels,we've got to start some where. Why not here? Regards Carole
  4. That's an old post that's popped up courtesy of this pesky tablet Regards Carole
  5. Wot about the protection of our bank balance? Regards Carole
  6. Now that we shall be leaving the EU will we see a return of the concessionary price of red diesel I wonder, the loss of which was caused by Brussels meddling. Now that would be a result!!
  7. Penny's Morgan makes the point that not only hire boaters are guilty of mishandling a boat. Of course he's absolutely right. Those arrogant so and sos who hurtle past moored boats are the pits. Another of my pet hates are those who have the whole width of the river at their disposal. but deem it necessary to pass within a few feet of moored craft. We were moored at St. Benets last summer and it was complete nightmare. One lunatic was hurtling along a very few feet from the bank heading straight for our stern. I don't know how he missed us It was quite literally by inches. We couldn't relax the whole time we were there. It was so bad we felt like we were being used as target practice.I'd never moor there again which is a pity as in all other respects it's a nice spot. There are some out there who seem to labour under the misapprension that boating is a contact sport!
  8. Thanks Gracie,if the weather isn't too diabolical we'll stay for about 12 days, but the weather we've had recently talk about rock & roll Oops we're back on the same subject! Regards Carole PS hope all's going well you

  12. A pink crocodile! lol. Must admit Iain, you had me going here for minute or two. I was very keen to know what was potent enough to have me seeing a pink crocodile, I was even tempted to go rummaging down the salvage bin to find the empty (had to be surely) bottle so that I could take note of the label for the benefit of future shopping lists. Then I remembered - I hadn't had a drop all day - It was just your bit of fun!!! regards Carole
  13. How long have you been sitting on that picci just waiting for the opportunity to use it?
  14. I got married while I was working there Gracie and was vey pregnant when I left. which was the reason I left. I've recently discovered that sadly, the Company H&M Rayne Ltd., no longer exists. I also recently discovered my old boss Edward Rayne, now deceased, was knighted - presumably for services to the royal tootsies! This time of the year always reminds me of that time as in the run up to Royal Ascot we were incredibly busy getting orders out for all sorts of beautiful shoes to compliment the elaborate outfits that were due to be worn and then after the washout that Ascot week invariably was all the shoes used to come back in a right old state with pleas for us to rescue them and restore them to their former glory. The year we launched crocodile skin shoes and bags in pastel colours instead of the obligatory black or brown was received with much enthusiasm but was a disaster for shoes. Mud and crocodile skin in palest pink - not a good combination! The crocodiles make a much better job of coping with it, but then they aren't pink! Regards, Carole
  15. Gracie with your love of shoes I'm guessing you would have loved the job I had when still in my teens. I worked for the Company that supplied the Queen's shoes. Not only was I surrounded by the worlds most beautiful and expensive shoes, also, because the firm had their roots in theatrical/showbusiness shoemaking and retained that connection I also got to see at close hand all the good and great of the day. . I well remember one client who thought nothing of spending £ 5000.00 in one session. To put things in perspective you could buy a house in North London for considerably less than that at the time. fascinating job. I loved it. Regards, Carole
  16. That's really sad Gracie, in later years my daughter got a look alike spaniel who was so like our old Toby. We used to "borrow" him when I got dog broody my( husband doesn't want another dog) He was very well behaved on the boat, we started to bring him when he was 12 weeks old. When he was 5 my daughter got a Shi Tsu puppy and we think he was romping with her when he broke his neck. He had no insurance because he had already beaten anal gland cancer therefore uninsurable. The vet said he wasn't skilled enough to sort him out but knew a lady who could. A Swiss vet who had a practice in Hampstead assured my daughter she could successfully operate on his neck and he would make a full recovery. It cost £3,000.00 but he went on to live till he was 13 and the only legacy was that he used to look a bit lop sided when running towards you. He's been gone 5 years and I still miss him. His name was Bertie Worcester. There is a corner in our lounge that he used to favour and we still call it Bertie's corner regards, Carole
  17. All I can say having read all these posts is thank goodness for waterproof mascara! I lost the great canine love of my life( a tricolour cocker Spaniel) January 5th 1985 and I think that was yesterday. Regards, Carole
  18. my husband signed for the Arsenal when a teenager but having got an apprecticeship in the print was forced to leave the Arsenal as he couldn't afford to stay. Even though his bosses, who were huge fans of the Arsenal and immensely proud that one of their employees played for them, promised the club he could have all the time off for play, training etc. that was needed, the club insisted he relinquish his apprenticeship. He was forced to leave the club as he couldn't afford to stay, because his earning potential was much bigger in the print. It remains his single biggest regret in life and he feels very strongly that he was born a generation or so too early. regards Carole
  19. point taken, Regards, Carole
  20. We've eaten at the fish and chip restaurant in Potter Heigham only once (about 2 years ago) having been invited to go with friends who used it regularly and thought very highly of it. I wasn't expecting The Ivy or Quaglinos, it was a fish and chip shop. nothing more and nothing less. I had pan fried fish as opposed to battered deep fried which I thought was a very good option to be offered and which was perfectly cooked and delicious, the chips were o.k. too even the wine was the right side of passable. and the service was good. We haven't been back since, no reflection on the establishment , the occasion just hasn't arisen . In our village we have a fish and chip shop owned by the award winning Petrou brothers and I must say that Potter Heigham was infinitely better. the worst \we have ever had was Harry Ramsdens in G. Y. rivalled for ghastliness only by the one on The Street Brundall. Regards, Carole
  21. I suspect it's the finish as the splits are not very deep but then it's probably a veneer so not very deep anyway. Regards Carole
  22. The saloon in our boat is trimmed with cherry wood and we noticed this weekend that it is showing signs of distress where it is continually exposed to sunlight with tiny splits starting to appear. Does anyone know of an application that can help?.It has a silky finish rather than a high gloss, Regards Carole
  23. When we returned to the boat in the spring it was to find that our tides clock had stopped working never to go again it seems as we took it to the watch/clock hospital in Norwich and it couldn't be repaired.. The problem was that we now had holes in the fibreglass in the cockpit where it used to be located that needed something to cover them, preferably another clock the same. Went on line to try and find another, ordered one from Marinespeed only to receive a call from them a few days later to say this item is no longer available. Found one at the chandlers in Hoveton but they wanted more than £ 25.00 more for it. Found a company in Bridgend called Marinescene who are new to us, maybe someone out there has deal with them before. It was at a price that was competitive and they sent it exactly when they said they would . the problem was that it wasn't working properly and kept stopping. they asked us to return it and promptly sent another by courier, with the money for the postage cost incurred in returning the faulty one enclosed. they kept us informed by e mail all through the procedure. Now that's what I call that good service. I would certainly use them again and recommend tham. Regards Carole
  24. Many years ago my husband was painting the gutters of a two storey house. He leaned a little too far to the right while painting the gutter at the side of the house. Unfortunately, at the precise time he did this, the "friend" who was supposed to be holding the ladder, decided to light a cigarette. the only thing that prevented my husband from being catapulted to the bottom of the garden while still on the ladder was the ladder coming to an abrupt stop against the soil pipe. My husband no longer cares for heights or ladders! regards Carole
  25. Without doubt the best fish & chips we have had in Norfolk is at The Yare, Brundall. The chips really hit the spot & the Cod & Plaice are superb. The quality never varies Regards Carole
