  1. Sorry the angst is going on Tim let's hope for a better outcome to Uncle Bill's predicament Carole
  2. just like to add my condolences Tim. What a rotten time you have had, Let's hope it can only get better. A Happier New year to you and yours from me and mine. Carole
  3. I t should be thesynonym for a husband Carole
  4. No they can used for a wide range of products made by the company some of which I'll be happy to use Carole
  5. Since the early 1980's I have used the same dishwasher detergent, Eschewing the new kids on the block sticking to my tried and tested. Recently I found |I was unable to get it and after a few weeks was only able to get "Gel" as opposed o the liquid I had always used. So in desperation having run out I bought some. "why are all the cups still stained"? asked my husband, "Why indeed" I wondered , This state of affairs continued so I phoned the customer relations dept. of the manufacturer. "is this product in addition to or in place of " I enquired. " In place of" was the reply. The EU strikes again! Apparently there were ingredients in the previous product that were considered not to be eco friendly so it ad to be discontinued in it's previous form. .All this interference with the efficiency of products leaving us with products no longer fit purpose is making me downright eco hostile. I told the company that the new product was not up to standard and not fit for purpose and pointed that it was expensive and I would have to throw it away and buy something else. She was very apologetic but there was no alternative as the EU rules had to be obeyed. This was 3 weeks ago and in todays post I received vouchers for dishwasher products to the value of £15.00. Not bad! the downside is that I am still not able to use my preferred product any longer. Carole
  6. Salmon en croute? Delish! but I struggle to be in the same room as goat's cheese. Enjoy! Carole
  7. we're being told to batten down in preparation for a severe storm that's on it's way which has been named Barbara. that'd be right.my mother's name was Barbara and she could start a row in an empty field! Carole
  8. A friend of mine's husband developed mental health problems a few years ago and he had the utmost difficulty getting him help, His GP was superb but even with all his best efforts the mental health issues remained untreated eventually following an unsuccessful suicide attempt he was put on a medical ward to treat the damage done by the pills he had taken, still no acknowledgement of the actual problem. After a few days the hospital announced they would be sending him home the next day. My friend pointed out that if they did that he would be very likely to make a further attempt on his own life as this latest was the 4th at least. This ward is not for treatment of that type she was told. "Then put him in a ward that Is" she suggested. Not possible she was told. So she went to her solicitor and had letters drafted addressed to the hospital secretary, the doctor under whose "care" her husband was and everybody else involved in his hospital discharge, making it quite plain that if her husband succeeded in killing himself or inflicted serious harm on himself during an attempt to do so she would sue them all personally along with the local health Authority. He was placed in a mental health treatment ward immediately, and eventually recovered enough to lead a pretty normal life although the treatment was not without faults This all happened a long time ago but it seems little has changed for the better in the meantime. Getting appropriate help for people unable to do so for themselves still seems to be a disgracefully uphill struggle. Carole
  9. At one time when care fell short of what was required, (I've been up this route with 2 sets of grandparents in the 1970s) threat of exposure in local press worked wonders. These days however they' re shameless! Hope you succeed in getting the right result. Carole
  10. We have a notice on the front door window advising callers that we do not buy at the door. It doesn't keep them all away but for the most part seems to work. My pet hate is religion pedlars particularly those trailing little kids around the streets with them. I have been known to speak quite sternly to people like this ( for which read give them a right bawling out!). Carole
  11. That used to be my favourite tipple but Molinari rather than Luxardo and warm from being fired not cold. In fact I got so fond of it, finding it "cured" all sorts of digestive disorders ( yes really!) that when I went to my GP for my yearly m.o.t. she noticed a significant increase in my blood sugar, and in all other respects I do not have a sweet tooth so the culprit was easy to identify thus bye bye Sambuca sadly Carole
  12. You seem to be managing to achieve that very nicely Timbo. Just thought I'd mention that while playing my organ last year there was a dreadful smell of burning and smoke poured out of the back. My husband said I must have hit a bum note! as if! Carole
  13. Galliano poured over ice cream is delicious. merry hicmas all! Carole
  14. My husband's favourite meal is the traditional boxing day lunch of cold Turkey, ham, mashed potatoes and pickles He really looks forward to that and if we get invited out and have lunch elsewhere he feels positively cheated. I've already started the peripheral Christmas fare - the Cake, chocolate muffins beloved by No. 2 Granddaughter, stuffings for the Turkey beloved by my daughter, it's about this time of the year when I wish the freezer was expandable! I must admit I enjoy making it all much more than I actually enjoy eating it. seeing all the delighted smiles when their old favourites are wheeled out makes the effort really worth while. Bon appetit everyone! Carole
  15. Craig does seem to be very knowledgeable but sometimes it seems to me he is voting for effect and not giving a mark that is necessarily representative of the standard of the performance but given rather to draw attention to himself and is deliberately contentious to that effect. Not ideal in a judge. Ian Waite on the other hand is an excellent idea and one I must admit I had not thought of. Anton would; obviously be ideal. One could never imagine him being gratuitously cruel unlike Craig.. Carole
  16. Karen Hardy as a judge? Spare us! Yes she is very knowledgeable, but So OTT and full of herself as to be almost unwatchable! regards, Carole
  17. I adore Strictly and thought this year's final the highest standard ever, I genuinely didn't mind who won and thought Ore a worthy winner because he embodied all that Strictly is supposed to be about, Someone untrained in dance working their socks off to achieve a standard that seemed impossible at the beginning. I voted for Louise simply because I totally empathised with her in that she felt she had lost her identity in marriage and motherhood and lacked confidence as a result which we all saw gradually coming back over the weeks.I loved watching her evolve. What to do on Saturdays now? I told Tony he'll just have to take me out to dinner instead Roll on Spring and the start of the boating season was his reply. regards, Carole
  18. I'm a serial chucker-outer married to a serial hoarder. Get's interesting in our house from time to time as there's nothing I like more than empty drawers and cupboards. The words that make my husband go cold with terror? "I'm getting a skip in!" Brings him to heel; every time Regards, Carole
  19. Wish you every success with the Canary and Linnet, we pass it each time we go to the boat, haven't been in for a while but will do so now I'm sure ,next season, Regards, Carole
  20. Last week my no.2 granddaughter showed me on you tune a film about Loca the pug who can't run . Hillarious, Regards, Carole
  21. Alan, it's never too early for wine. Surely all the time you have been on this forum in the company of Gracie as taught you that. I've just returned from the funeral of an old friend (a lady in every sense of the word) who having had long notice of her demise arranged her funeral herself. And we were all served glass of ice cold prosecco with which to drink a toast to her. That's what I call going out with style. Regards, Carole
  22. That's another reason for me to never to become involved with BT. Patient, kind, understanding all alien to me but a prerequisite when dealing with BT it would seem.. Regarding shopping I'm one of those unusual females who loath it with a passion. Mail order is my saviour. Hope you get your extra day on the boat I'm sure you deserve it. regards, Carole
  23. I'd have thought that with all that trouble and lack of fulfillment they were in breach of contract and you'd have the right to tear it up. What a good job there is a choice out there these days, if I was forced to deal with these clowns I'd be a candidate for the funny farm in no time. regards, Carole
  24. Well done Timbo, I have too have found a rant achieves little more than to give the other party a good excuse to ignore you and you problem whereas humour sems to be irresistible regards Carole
  25. Couldn't disagree more about Ed a huge cheer went up in our house when he at last got voted off. It's a dance competition not an audition for the circus clown vacancy. His remaining so long was a mockery of those who have worked so hard to attain the improvement they are now showing in their dancing skills. regards, Carole
