  1. Let’s not turn this into a badge debate (please) [emoji57] I’d be really tempted to volunteer to help the BA: http://www.broads-authority.gov.uk/looking-after/how-you-can-help/volunteering/current-volunteering-opportunities But all the roles (except one) are “customer facing”. That really wouldn’t work for me. Do they ever ask for volunteers for work on the banks etc? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Don’t they all right now? It would be nice to debate the issues rather than the badge. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. That sums up my feeling perfectly. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Haha, fair enough. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I found this: http://www.broads-authority.gov.uk/news-and-publications/news/broads-to-be-called-a-national-park It says in there That’s dated January 2015. Have we seen anything after that that shows they are still pursuing a legal change? It’s a genuine question. If some people believe they are because of what’s happened in the past I absolutely respect that. But I (and I suspect others) need to see something happening to convince me. 6. Maybe if the Broads won a prestigious award it would help dispel the bad image. Sorry, I just couldn’t resist that one [emoji56] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  7. Silence doesn’t necessarily mean concurrence. Personally, I have voted for the Broads and I have no problem with the BA calling it a National Park, the people responsible for National Parks calling it a National Park or it being entered into a National Park competition. I chose not to participate in this discussion, that doesn’t mean I agree with the loudest opinions (I don’t mean that in a derogatory way, I just can’t think of a better way of putting it). 8. Steady on [emoji57] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. MM, point taken about some of the Broads rather than all thank you. JM, I understand it would be difficult to do right now (cost of decent batteries, not enough charging points etc) but we should reduce emissions shouldn’t we? That doesn’t have to mean loss of use / fun etc does it? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Funny how so many threads go this way later on an evening isn’t it? [emoji57] Is it fair to say everyone here wants to avoid any loss of navigation on the Broads? Or are there people here that would like to see boats removed? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Is this a reasonable summary? The Broads isn’t a National Park in the normal way. The Broads can call itself a National Park. The BA head honcho may be trying to get the Broads turned into an NP but there’s no recent evidence of this. There is evidence that he was trying in the past. If the Broads did become a full NP the Sanford Principal could be applied which may be used to restrict or remove boats from the Broads. If that’s something close to reality we’re all on the same side here aren’t we? Isn’t it just a matter of deciding where individuals draw the “that’ll never happen” line? And therefore what we should object to? Personally, I think my line is I’m happy to hear the BA call the Broads an NP but if I see anything beyond that I’ll be marching on Yare House (so to speak). Horsey Mere

I thought it was privately owned. Is that wrong? I know the NT owns the wind pump. But it’s Horsey Estates you pay for mooring isn’t it? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Horsey Mere

Ah ok thank you. Didn’t realise it was a voluntary closure. I’ll stay away. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Horsey Mere

I thought that Horsey Mere was closed to navigation through part of the winter. But this document seems to imply it’s open to navigation but closed to boat angling. http://www.broads-authority.gov.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0006/404259/Winter_wildfowl_pdf.pdf Does anyone have more info? (although it would be difficult to have less than me!) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  15. I did (several times). I must be missing something. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Thanks. I have seen the last few of them and haven’t seen anything to suggest they’re trying to get a change of status. Have you? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Agree 100% with what you’ve written. Are we seeing any recent evidence that the BA are still actively trying to get full NP status or are we assuming that because that’s what they once wanted they still must? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Ah, that makes perfect sense thank you. I was thinking centre of gravity higher, bigger angle on prop etc etc. Over thinking it as usual [emoji57] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Perhaps you’re right. But perhaps too much time is also spent debating that the BA are calling it an NP too. Clearly people can debate whatever they choose. I think the danger is they detract from the real issues. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Probably a stupid question but why did you want to raise the engine? Thanks for creating and updating this thread. It’s fascinating to see. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Not if the debate always goes back to the one discussion and away from what’s being done. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Perhaps they believe calling it the Broads National Park without it being a full National Park is a good thing for the Broads (including the hire companies and boaters) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Exactly my point. But put a lot better than I did. Thank you. I’m sort of glad it’s not just me. I get that the Broads isn’t a National Park in the same terms as the others. I get that the BA are allowed to call it a National Park. Isn’t it more important we discuss what they’re doing rather than what they label themselves? The most ironic part is that the BA could slip something bad through because the focus is on NP / not NP rather that what’s being slipped through. Not to mention getting no credit for the good stuff they do. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. No. I mean exactly what I said. I’m interested to know if other people avoid posting on threads about the BA because of all the “you’re not an NP” posts. Sorry if that wasn’t clear. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. I have to say. The constant “it’s not an NP” reply to everything the BA says or does (good or bad) stops me from getting involved in any discussion now (here and FB) I’d be very interested to know if anyone else feels the same way. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
