  2. Can you test a boat with no toll at a brokers? I know some yards have trade plates but do they all? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    My Day

As a biker I’d call that a tank slapper [emoji6] I’m in our cottage on my own as my better half is a teacher and goes back tomorrow but I’ve managed to scam a few more days off. I decided to take the dinghy (non sailing, is that still a dinghy? Small, open GRP boat) with electric outboard from Potter to Ludham, while I was out the wind got up a lot against me heading back and I didn’t have loads of charge left when I got back. I’m quite pleased with the outboard but I think that’s about the limit of its range. Tomorrow should be interesting, Goodchilds are lifting our ski boat out ready for service etc. so thought I’d go and see that. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  4. I’m completely the other end of the spectrum on this one ... Phone calls? Mobile Texts? Mobile Car Satnav? Mobile Boat navigation? Mobile Tide state? Mobile Moon phase? Mobile Forums? Mobile Facebook? Mobile Games? Mobile Emails? Mobile Work documents? Mobile Control home heating? Mobile Monitor cctv? Mobile Etc etc etc. I currently have 237 apps installed [emoji57]. I’d say I use 30% of them regularly. I do have a computer too but losing my mobile would be like losing an arm these days. But it is just a tool. As we know, when computers became common in the workplace it changed the way a lot (if not most) people worked. I think phones are doing the same thing. I’m not saying it’s good by the way! 5. I think that’s an issue with people rather than Facebook [emoji57] Did you see the thing recently where criminals are posting things like “post your mothers maiden name here”, “what was your first pets name” etc and using the info for identity theft? Scary stuff. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I think you’re absolutely right. For me it’s just a question of where the line is and who decides when it’s crossed. It’s very subjective. Personally I think overall most of the social media companies do a good job but there are always going to be problems. Who ever thought giving people free speech would end well ??!! 7. Gracie, you make a very fair point (as always) but is that the fault of Facebook? The same people could have used a forum, Tripadviser, taken out an advert in a newspaper or put posters up in the area couldn’t they? Being able to criticise a company publicly is in my opinion very good. I’ve had a few instances of bad service with no response from my direct complaints. Post a review on social media and things often change very quickly. But in my opinion that doesn’t make it ok to allow individuals or groups to victimise a business or individual. But who decides what is victimisation and what is fair criticism? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I would argue that Facebook is more heavily monitored and regulated than any forum. Most forums have a few part time volunteer mods. Facebook employee thousands of people to do the same job. https://m.facebook.com/communitystandards Clearly Facebook is far from perfect but I guess it’s very difficult to know where to draw the line between free speech and heavy handed censorship. I really don’t want to be defending Facebook, I’m not a huge fan but I think it’s important to see both sides. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Bit of an update to this. I went down to check on the boat today considering the winds we’ve been having and the covers still look great and have held up extremely well. I’m hoping to get Bailey and Stone to make me new covers for my day boat too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. I’m with SpeedTriple. Get what you want out of it and it’s fine. It’s easy enough to hide the “this is what I had for my tea” kind of trivia and very easy to make people go away whose views you don’t want to hear. I prefer forums for debate but I don’t like the anonymity of forums. Very much like forums some Facebook groups are well run and well moderated and some aren’t. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Wind

Very blowy at Potter. The dinghy moored on the riverside was getting very thrown about so I dragged it out at 03:30! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Aren’t these films produced to entertain and to make money? Perhaps they shouldn’t be but that’s the harsh reality isn’t it? As for the history doesn’t it just fade into the past given enough time? Again, perhaps it shouldn’t but it does doesn’t it? Can anyone other than historians give us an accurate description of Agincourt or Waterloo for example? Is that a problem? Wouldn’t we expect accuracy from documentaries rather than films? 13. First new year in our cottage on the Thurne. Happy days. If nobody says shed I won’t have to say floating caravans [emoji57] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    My Day

Don’t think it’s much warmer than that inside at Bracknell. I’m sat next to the ice watching and I’m freezing!! I really can’t complain though, some of the girls on this team have to get a ferry back to the Isle of Wight after the skating finishes at 9:30. I imagine they’ll be on a midnight ferry. We only have to drive for a couple of hours. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. My mistake. Mods, I have no problem with it being moved. Sorry. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. I think the line is when it becomes personal. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  17. I think that’s a very fair point. Another thing I don’t get is why non family friendly language is not ok but very non family friendly humour appears to be fine. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  18. Thanks Charlie, I’ll be away from Sat to about the 7th or 8th so let me get back to you after that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Hi Charlie, Yes, the burgee did arrive thank you. Quite quickly actually. No problem, I’ll let you know if the calendars arrive. What date will the 15 days be up? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. We’ve had a couple of posts since Christmas and they haven’t arrived. Do we give it a bit longer or assume they’re not going to arrive? Do I need to do anything? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  22. I do agree with you, however, have you ever seen it go that way? I don’t think I have. I think often pointing out where the original poster has gone wrong seems to end up with them entrenching their opinion. I think as well we do have a few minor trolls here that actually want the reaction. There was a thread recently that I took personal offence to (I’m not going to say what it was). I think maybe 50% of people would have agreed with me taking offence if I’d posted a reply but it would have been divisive so I just said “idiot” to myself (I paraphrase slightly [emoji57]) and let it lie. Perhaps we just need a dislike button [emoji57] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. The ones I’m thinking of (in my opinion) don’t need action, they need ignoring. The problem here (again only in my opinion) is often not the initial post, it’s the thirty replies (from non mods) saying “you shouldn’t post that” I know how difficult being a mod is and I think you’re all doing a great job. It’s a very difficult balancing act. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    My Day

I can assure you it does: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planet_Ice_Silverdome_Arena However, embarrassingly I’ve just realised we’re going to Bracknell today, not Basingstoke [emoji5] Sorry. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. Walk on by [emoji57] In my opinion a lot of posters here make the same mistake I used to make (all the time). Responding to posts they don’t agree with. I’m not saying don’t respond to incorrect facts (in my opinion they should always be challenged). But the “you’re an idiot” or “I don’t like what you’ve done” or “I don’t like what you posted” kind of posts are (in my opinion) best ignored. Let the mods remove them if they breach the rules. Just an opinion from a relative newbie with a lot of forum experience but little on here. This seems to be a forum that tries very hard to be friendly but often fails because one post that may be a misunderstanding or trying to provoke a reaction then escalates because lots of people jump in. Mods, I have no problem at all with you removing this thread if you think I’m wrong or don’t like the message. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
