  1. Mods, feel free to delete this thread if you think it’s going to turn to nastiness. As I understand it the broads aren’t officially a national park. But some people call it a national park. Is that true? Some people here seem to get quite heated on the subject. Does it really matter? Why? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  2. Without TV, computer, iPad etc to distract me I just spend all my time thinking about work. So I’d argue I need the TV to get away from it all. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Need? Absolutely not. Want? Abso bloody lutely [emoji57] We had a 32” tv in our caravan. It may well end up on a boat. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Then floating gets my vote [emoji57] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. My ski boat is on a floating pontoon and I like that a lot. I’m about to gain another mooring that will be fixed (hopefully). But the floating pontoon is at Burgh Castle with a huge tidal range and the fixed one will be at Potter with almost no tidal range. I think I’d hate a fixed one at Burgh Castle but a floating one would be wasted at Potter. Horses for courses I suppose. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Have Air Source Heat Pumps not made it into marine yet? I use one to heat my pond (yes, really) and with an ambient air temperature of around five degrees upwards I put in 1kw and get 7kw out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Ah ok. Fair enough. Looks like we’ll have to keep buying the teddy bears then [emoji57] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Oooo, a power tool I don’t have (yet). A cordless version of that would be extremely useful. Thanks for sharing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Do they get any lottery funding? That could give them money without red tape couldn’t it? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Mercedes wanted £300 for the glass only for mine. For a 14 year old car? I don’t think so! Original was self tinting (or whatever you call them). It now has a plain one (I think it was still around £60 for glass only!) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Interesting stuff. I guess it’s more about the consequence of speeding (greater injuries) than who’s to blame. Similar point on motorbikes I’d say. Whilst I completely accept most bike accidents are not the fault of the biker in most cases I think the biker could have avoided the accident (I’ve been a biker for longer than I care to remember and I think I survive by assuming everyone is trying to kill me [emoji57]) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. I agree. I’m not trying to argue I should be allowed to speed. Just using that example of why the speed limits should be treated as guidance. I wouldn’t argue that any more than I’d try to argue that driving past a school bus that’s unloading at 29 mph is ok because I’m under the speed limit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I firmly believe speed limits are guidance. There are times where I don’t consider it appropriate to travel at or near the speed limit, a 50 in a built up area perhaps, so I don’t. Conversely at the end of a speed limit when you’ve passed the last house and can clearly see there is nobody there is it dangerous to accelerate out of the speed limit zone? I’d also make the point that a well trained driver with fast reactions in a well maintained vehicle travelling at slightly over the speed limit is much, much safer than an inexperienced driver or a driver with slow reactions or a driver with borderline eyesight or a badly maintained car travelling just below the speed limit. I like Clarkson’s view on the subject. If speed kills why do only a very small proportion of serious accidents happen on the fastest roads? It’s inappropriate speed that kills. Not speed. 14. Both of you would be liable for a ban either way wouldn’t you? [emoji6] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  15. We’ve got a fairly uninteresting Vauxhall Astra. That reads speed limit signs. Would be interesting to combine the two technologies and have an option to stick to speed limits. Used with adaptive cruise control that would be awesome in my opinion. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  16. If you continue to try isn’t that then racing? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  17. Haha, so it did. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  18. In the 50’s before I was born my mum and dad and another couple had a Broads boating holiday. Whilst trying to tow another boat my dad who couldn’t swim and wasn’t wearing a life jacket fell in and had to be dragged out and given CPR by my mum. So my entire existence very nearly dropped into and stayed in the Broads. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Section 9.1.2 Think mine needed it because of the lack of an engine tray (which I’m now guessing most of you have). https://www.boatsafetyscheme.org/media/268789/ecp-private-boats-ed3_rev2_apr2015_public_final.pdf Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Mine was pre September so maybe the drip tray is enough. I think I have a link to the latest rules so I’ll see if I can find the wording. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I would never have guessed that! Do we know how the number of private boats compares? Does the 800 include day boats? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. [emoji3] I’ll remember that. I’m loathe to admit this (especially here) but first time out on Breydon, Spirit of Breydon came alongside and called me on the radio. That’s odd I thought. They know I’m on Channel 12 and they used no normal VHF protocol. I answered them anyway. Yarmouth radio then told SoB and me to get off their working channel in no uncertain terms. Turns out SoB had called me on their tannoy not the radio. Very embarrassing!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. It would be self managing, as soon as the gunwales let water over the otters will swim off lightening the load. I think you’re right about Breydon. When heading out to sea GY port scares me a lot more than Breydon. Mainly because I don’t want the nasty men on the radio shouting at me [emoji57] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. Thanks folks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. I like the idea of the yellow post being the dividing line. I don’t like ambiguity [emoji57] It definitely won’t be a sailing boat! I’m about to gain a small day boat that I think will go under but I’m thinking of trading up to something we could sleep on ... there’s a discussion with some excellent ideas people have given me on here somewhere. If what I buy is too high I could load it to the gunwales with live otters then just throw them out when I’ve gone under the bridge (JOKE) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
