Haven’t looked under the sofa yet though.

You do realise, that it is presumed the millions of old one pound coins that hasn't been given to the banks to be exchanged for the new coin resides. I hope you find your fortune :default_biggrin:

these are the low voltage alarms, basically they are set to alarm (quite noisily) if any of the batter cells drop below 3.3volts, they measure this across the individual cells of the battery, so will alarm if only one of the cells drops below optimum, normal cell voltage is 3.7v and peak is about 4.1v.

Are these alarms a bit of an overkill for a drain on a battery, small that it is and for a model boat?

That's a bit harsh Mr Upcycler sir!

My experience is that I start fishing, swans come along (within a minute or so), I reel in and stop fishing. Swans hang about for a few minutes then go away. I resume fishing and immediately the swans come back.

You just confirmed what I said ?????????????

but then why on earth do they carry on fishing when a swan is really near to their tackle?

Its not rocket science, when there are swans or ducks near my fishing tackle, I real it in till they are gone. But for some simpletons, they just don't understand.

We shall say I'm in a 7mph (over land) speed limit. If I'm doing 7mph through the water against a 7mph tidal flow, My land speed is 0 mph. The speed of my wash against the bank is also 0 mph yet that wash might well be 30cm. Is that wash doing any damage to a soft bank? (I genuinely don't know).

But, if I turn and run with the tide and to maintain steerage have a speed through water of 3mph, my speed over land is now 10 mph, but with no wash. Should I be done for speeding?

Sorry Double M, but I think you have gone over to the dark side with this way of thinking and have looked far too much into it.

excessive wash does come into it, as it is evidence of exceeding the speed limit. as hull type can be determined by boat type.

Now I do understand that speed limits are there to protect the river banks because of wash, but a hovercraft can break the speed limit associated with some rivers and cause much less wash than boats. Now if I am correct in saying that the rivers have boats of planning hulls to the flat bottom hulls concerning the hire industry.

So please correct me if I am wrong, a planning hull causes more wash than your flat bottom hull type and the bigger the boat, the slower they should go?

Yeah I know 12 does seem a lot but there are 5 fender eyes down each side so I figured I'd use them all, plus I want 2 smaller ones on the stern rather than 1 large one.

As for salvaged fenders, over the years we must have fished at least a boats worth out of the reeds n rivers, occasionally complete with rope and eye!

Does this type of boat really exist on the broads?

Prosecuting someone for speeding is actually very difficult.

If I am not mistaken, speed cameras work on contact and measure a fixed distance, this way speed can be calculated. If it works on the roads, the same can be done on the rivers. Wash will never come into it as it always depends on the hull if my memory serves me right.

I agree, when reading reviews it pays to be a bit wary. Ignore the ratings people have posted and read the actual reviews. It’s not that difficult to separate out the ones that are based on completely unrealistic expectations and those that have a something pertinent to say.

Just the same as film critics, I take no notice of them whatsoever. There has been a few films that have been slated by these so called experts and personally I have really enjoyed them.

Witnesses must be prepared to give a statement and go to court if necessary otherwise their evidence may not be admissible in the potential prosecution.

This is where I believe why possibly alot of offenders get away with speeding on the broads, as people would think is it worth the bother as no one got injured. Perhaps BA could invest in cameras in the hot spots, as they are getting much more affordable and technologically advanced .

So, two novice families (4 adults 4 children)  should not be allowed to have a broads holiday as the boat hired to them would be too big for them to handle? Discuss.

I have piloted a Cessna single prop, so a 747 would be like a walk in the park. :default_biggrin:

  12. I worked my way up from a small hire boat to the larger type. Unfortunately you will have those that want to make a statement on their first hire boat with a large cruiser and will not have a clue what to do and how to handle it.

  13. Personally I find it intriguing, when you see members that have been on here for a few years and while looking through an old thread that have made many a contribution, then simply disappeared.

  14. If it means anything on this thread for the BBC license fee, but I like to watch Escape to the Country. So when I watch episodes that are a few years old, I am appalled that I am paying for episodes that I payed for a few years ago.:default_blink:

The trouble is that despite the largish grant given recently, the money is too thinly spread and as a result, my feeling more is more is being spent on organisation rather than actual real work and progress

It's a common thing where money is spent on surveyors, architects and planning, but the work never starts because there is not enough money left in the kitty!

  17. I do like fishing on the broads and when I'm tiddler bashing which takes me back to my teens, I sometimes think it would be nice to catch a carp. I understand they are few and far between in the broads but you can catch them in canals, so I have wondered why it's not a regular fish to catch on the north side of the broads.

its not usually recommended due to the low water temperature, but it is an activity that has always taken place, and last week the water was particularly warm, there have now been several organised events on the waveney. it is indeed an activity that every boater should be aware of and watch out for, much as you need to do for canoeists, and paddle boarders, that are out in prolific numbers at the moment, indeed there is no real difference between a swimmer and a paddle boarder that has fallen off their board.

indeed the Broads Authority strongly advise against it but it is allowed.

    https://www.broads-authority.gov.uk/boating/navigating-the-broads/outdoor-swimming

but also advise all of the dangers.

if steps are taken to mitigate the risks- eg only swimming when the water is warm enough, avoiding busy areas or times, etc, then swimming may be undertaken with a degree of safety

Also I assume that if you have any open wounds, even if they are small cuts and because of the chance of infection can be at a high swimming in the broads, do people need to be aware of this?
