Bought that in 1986 when it was 10 years old, and being a BL product, rusty! Did a restoration on it in 1990. Cars and boats can get you in trouble.... Still have it today, and it still puts a smile on my face when driving it. Second picture shows the starting handle, around 2ft 6 long. Surprisingly easy to use, considering it’s a V8

Hi Chelsea14Ian, wooden boats argh! Never again. First boat I owned in the early eighties was a 24 ft wooden cruiser, bought as a project after coming back from my second time on the Broads really wanting a boat. Thought it would take a few weekends to sort it. Took the rose coloured specs off and realised it might take longer. It did. A lot longer! I was young and enthusiastic then. Finished it and had some great times on the rivers and canals here around Leicester for some years , but doubt I will own wooden again. Forum name alludes more to my name.

Think the hire yards will find it increasingly difficult to continue operating within the Government guidelines, which could give them liability problems with staff or customers. Difficult all round really. Stay safe everyone, it will pass

Just received an email from the Caravan and Motorhome club stating all club sites and 5 van certified locations are to close with immediate effect until the end of June! seems there will be increasing pressure on the leisure industry as a whole curtail activities.

Hi Broads01, thanks for your reply. Apologies I wasn’t clear in my post, but I didn’t doubt it was the same boat, only my memory from that holiday was how yellow it was. That boat/holiday cemented my interest in boats and boating, and I have been lucky enough to have worked on and played with boats since. Currently have a ‘classic’ (old!) Fletcher sports boat that rarely gets used. ‘Management’ thinks it’s time it went , and we looked into a cruiser on the Broads. Have to say, she is probably right, especially as we hopefully get more leisure time. Cheers Woodie

Understood, and thanks for reading into it fully. I took the Gazette article at face value, and it just made me aware that if Sandford was available to pressure groups, then I am sure some would use any means to get it applied to suit their goals. Have to say, sometimes the WG have the same editorial prowess as EDP!

Hi RumPunch, thanks for looking that up. From memory, certainly was that style of boat, but the superstructure was yellow-very yellow!! Still had a great week. I have some photos somewhere. That was my second time on the Broads, and I came back really wanting a boat. story for another time, but ended up buying a wooden cruiser here in the Midlands, needing some work. That was a baptism of fire.....

Hi all, joined the forum today after a couple of years just reading as a guest, so I feel I know some of you already! Came across the attached booking form from 1981 recently, my second time on the broads in my youth! No idea why I still have it! wonder if Yare dawn is still around.

To be more accurate, a group called GLEAM have filed a claim against theLDNPA for a judicial review. The authority solicitor states the claim alleges the authority failed to properly advise their Rights of Way Committee of their DUTY (my caps) under the Sandford Principle. Reported in the Westmorland Gazette 23 01 20

Different tangent, the Lake District National Park Authority are facing a legal challenge from a pressure group because they didn’t apply Sandford in reaching a decision. Really didn’t want to stop you boating on HIckling, but we were forced to apply Sandford, even though we had no intention. Sorry Honest.......
