  1. you forgot to mention that yards like to use green rather than black because black shows up every little tiny imperfection (not that guys will have any of those!) Also Jonny if you didnt know the mould tool gel is alot harder than the gel used on the moulding(or product) and a shed load more expencive!
  2. The enging block may have had antifreeze but the heat exchanger and all the raw water water cooling side wouldnt have. not saying you would have missed this but some people think that antifreeze in block is all there is.
  3. A bent rudder is the least of the boats problems and one of the cheaper parts to replace given how much you would need to spend on the rest!
  4. I looked at the ad, an i would be supprised if it makes more than £300, its to heavy for easy transport and is a compleate basket case, even the good old bmc had stood in the elements for that long that it would need alot of attention before even tryin to spin it over (would expect a new starter needed at very least but most likley need the bores lubricating if its to spin without dammage) it realy is scrap value for anyone with a big enough machine to lift it, i cant see people rushing for it as a resteration project.
  5. Is there a doom and gloom cloud over your head? Things that were built in the 30's-60's became classics by the 80's we are in the 2010's so i think we can accept a little classic status now on things from the 70's and 80's. Enjoy the project.
  6. Restored its a very nice classic shaped cruiser, Good luck with that its some task. as to its current value i wouldnt like to say but no engine and current state i would be supprised if its worth as little as the scrap value of the steel hull.
  7. perhaps they should be re-classified as duel action. First they are a inflatable boat then they turn into submersible, ideal for the scuba enthusiast.
  8. i wouldnt tweak, they look perfect as they are.
  9. What sort of check takes 3weeks? Sounds more like they have had check and now need three weeks to upgrade!
  10. Phew, im safe not having put up my hourly rate in four years!
  11. I wouldnt use these selling tactics myself, but whos at fault, seller or buyer as the seller doesnt force the buyer to buy, ifi was to spend £300 i would definatly be comparing prices
  12. going back to the post, i have seen this on ebay before. Three possible reasons; 1, as has been mentioned its a mistake, but if the ad already existed and the price has been alterd then typo is doubtfull. 2, Sell a large quantity at a low price so that your ad shows you have sold many units (and feedback will mostly be good) then hike the price up, people looking are fooled by the fact that loads have been sold and buy one. 3, they have much less in stock than they say and the price hike is done so you dont sell many until more stock comes in, and if you do sell one at the high price then its a bonus.
  13. looks like a kids toy rather than a serious boat
  14. That you were, from the same date drivers lost the entitlment to drive cat C as well, i forget the weight but im ok with a transit/sprinter but i couldnt drive a 10t flatbed when i wanted to hire one! I asked my instucter when i did the trailer test about doing the C test, he said no point, may as well skip that one as it would cost the same and pretty much the same test to to go for 32t ridgid body. but at the cost of approx £2000 i decided i could just get my half blind dad to hire anything big as he can dive anything!!!!!!!!!!! This subject is still a bit sore to me, proberbly because had i been born a year earlier i could have had all the other entitlements. I think training should be compulary as there are alot of scary caravan users out there but not the full test again, you end up spending a fortune. So many things have been changed for my generation by previous generations, Is it that they thought we have had it too easy and that we must suffer in anyway possible, of is it that due to years of wreckless over spending and sticking our countries nose into all that didnt consern us, they now screw every penny from every avenue possible! sorry venting here, rant over!
  15. Regardless of how good the 4x4 may be its the towing capacity of the vehicle marked on vin plate that matters and if it is approx 4tons + the trailer weight then unless you have some big american truck (of a old range rover thats not plated!) its going to be over capacity, People used to change the rear axel on transits to carry more, this doesnt help as its whats on the plate from manufacturer that is the law. Quite right lots of girls with horse boxes are being caught out. If you passed your driving test after jan 1997 then you (like me) have alot missing of your liecense on of wich is B+E (car+trailer) and you are restriced to a trailer less than 3/4t thats trailer and its load. If you want to tow a braked trailer over 3/4t then you must take the test. The test is the full practical test again with a box trailer (or trailer that obscures the rear view), Plus car park manuvers inc reverse round an 's' missing cone and backing in parking bay, coupling/uncouplling and Emergancy stop topped of with a fun trailer safety Q&A test as you sit in vehicle. For anyone thinking they can just go and do it. WRONG!!!!!!! I had towed my mums burger van for years (illegaly!) and was happy i was safe and compitant but you have to do everything in the right order and you need to loose your bad driving habits. you will need a couple of lessons, open your mind and ditch you opinions if you want to pass. I passed driving test 1st time, didnt take suitable lessons before and failed B+E 1st time, took couple of lessons and passed 2nd ettempt. Driving through Norwich, negotiating road works, being confident but not too confident and not clipping any curbs/cones with tailer, great fun! What made it all worth while was that about 3 months after i took the test i was pulled over for a weigh and general grilling (fuel dipped, enviroment agency, inland revenue and customs, police and vosa all present spot checking), I had a leagal trailer filled with soil, sadly i was 1/2t over weight!!!!! Your not alowed back on the road till you loose weight, im my case i phoned friends and shoveled soil over to other trailer, but if i had a boat on, what do you do???????? I got a telling off and was told if i do it again i get a nasty fine. But how glad was i that i had passed my test!
  16. try two weeks next time. Glad you enjoyed your time come back soon.
  17. your quite right yes it was and yes it would, but still the smell was very strong inside the cockpit with the canopy on, i would not have lit a match thats for sure! gas box was one of the lids that you could lift in cockpit floor, the space next to it was engine bay (thankfully diesel). the gas dropping to the lowest point and out of drain does stop the bin from being a bomb, but if there is a source of ignition the leak will still jet out a flame like a mini flame thrower, setting fire very quickly to what is proberbly a grp gas bin, as the bottle falls through the burned box the pipes sever and bye bye boat!
  18. I agree and descresion should be used, but ISO7840 hose has been required on fuel pipes, flame aresters on fuel breathers and batteries housed so that they cant drift around the boat have been there from the begining if im not mistaken. somtimes jobs are are difficult to reach!
  19. Thats a nice looking trailer, where do you keep it when the boats in the water?! :
  20. I was asked to fix a boat that had failed its gas test very badley this year, the owner was oblivious even though it stunk of gas, this is one to be alerted to, the system had a bubble tester and that didnt show any leak, why? well the regulater had given up and was leaking, the bubble tester tests everything the other side of it! This is why we need the BSS examiner to test and not leave it to the owner to diy test, now boats are having their 2nd test most gas failiers are on the applience and not the gas pipe run and the leaks are slight (i know any leak is bad but i would rather a minor leak on the valves not quite seating than a kinked pipe with a split), but hence my comment regarding the inspection not always being carried out as it should be, too many boats slipped through the net first time around, and im sorry to say some work that is carried out is still 'old school' from the eara that you do whater ever works no names mentioned as mud slinging in your own back yard is not recomended!
  21. The only 'I' devices i use are- me myself and I, and the pair of eyes in my head! Im not the oldest of members on here but i realy cant embrace the fruit company gadgets, people would get more done if they didnt spend 15mins of each hour checking mail boxes and social networks. Back to the thread, im very happy no-one was hurt. Personaly i think that accidents/missuse of disposable bbq's is the most dangerous thing on boats, the bss has done alot for checking petrol and gas (as long as the inspecter takes there role seriously) but the bss cant do anything about what people take on their boats. In the same way that the MOT inspecter cant stop you driving like an idiot and mis using your car, that would be the role of the police as it should be the role of the river plod to 'sniff' out the onboard bbq and make sure its being opperated in a safe manor. Note i dont say ban the bbq, i say educate to use it properly.
  22. I usually find Panks in Norwich fairly helpfull for most things eberspacher.
