  1. Would recommend the Yacht Stations at both.

Alternatively there's The Lido Moorings at Beccles but you have to be able to pass under the Old Bridge.

At Oulton you can moor at both The Wherry or The Commadore, all the above are chargeable, as are all at Beccles.

Cannot comment on The Commadore at Oulton as haven't been for about 3 years but before that was very good.

  2. Oh and how can I forget almost the best of all.

Ivy House Hotel just outside Oulton Broad.

Oulton is blessed almost as much as Coltishall in the North with a disproportionate amount of great places to eat. And if you want a real treat take a cab or train into Lowestoft and go to The Iconic just near the bridge. It will not cost a fortune but you will have top class food and service on a limited menu but you will walk away full and happy but without you wallet being raided 👍

  3. Would definitely recommend the white horse at chedgrave👍

Waters edge at Bramerton really good for a treat but is a tad on the expensive side . Depends what you want it is a must for us but only once in our trips South.

Oulton Broad has just about the best Indian Restaurant that I have ever been to Labone at North station. The other one at North Walsham is not a patch on it but still pretty good.

Can't fault the food at Surlingham but the beer and service can be iffy.

Carvery at the Wherry Oulton Broad is great but remember it is a chain.

For plain pub grub it's hard to fault The New Inn at Rockland.

Would like to try The Angel at Loddon as under the last management was pretty good.

And finally the (wine? ) Vaults at Beccles or The Waveney Inn/ Hotel both brilliant

    Another offensive comment,

I think this is the most meaningful comment I have seen, I am sure that the word is being passed back that the 'peasants are revolting' (oops that sounds like something out of black Adder), that people are far from happy, but I am certain if Tom commented he would receive a lot of flack in return, so we must try not to shoot the messenger.

Don't take The Queens Shilling if you are not prepared to get shot at

I'm sure that's what's happening, but getting involved in a discussion he's never going to win will only lead to those above pulling the plug on any participation in this forum.

  7. But that is what we , or should I say me ,or I want MT

I want the PR man to report back to higher authority that some, or should I say most of us are outraged by this double charging for moorings on top of an inflation busting rise in Tolls.

An Authority that as you well know I have stood up for and trusted in the past has now betrayed that trust with this sickening money grab.

Best shut up before I get banished to the naughty step ..... again 😣

    How many private boats there?…😎

Off the top of my head none, but I may not be totally accurate on that.

I don't think there are any in my attached picture

  9. Yee haa right way up😁

Spoke to a hire boater who was a bit surprised by the charge. He was a bit shocked when I told him he has been charged twice.😣

It had not occurred to him that he had already paid for it in his Hire fee 😥

Maybe this is why The BA representative has not contributed to this discussion. 😣

The reality is that all the goodwill that BA has built up by the first class attitude of the, on the ground staff, has been sacrificed by this blatant illegal money grab by the higher, I was going to say management but dictatorship is more appropriate 😣

  10. Where next, probably some kind of CO2 carbon offset charge whilst cruising……. Knowing the current BA.

    Super.

So if I plant a tree in my garden I can get a free mooring at Ranworth for my diesel boat.

If I cut down yet another diseased tree in my garden I will not be allowed to moor at Ranworth.

Well we have cut down 4 trees this year alone and will probably cut down at least 2 more 🫣

Sorry tree huggers but try having them in your garden.😳

I think it’s fair to say the charges are in place at, Beccles, Oulton Broad, Norwich & Gt Yarmouth as they are manned with facilities, and charges have been in place for years.

As against free 24hr moorings now being charged for, which I also think is wrong.

It's the thin end of the wedge.😭

    Where next?

I remain hard-line agnostic about the BA, the Broads look to be in reasonable shape and I couldn't care less about the National Park issue. I simply don't believe that anyone at the BA really wants to restrict boating.

But, I think the creeping spread of mooring charges is totally wrong. We pay for the moorings in the tolls. Paying at the Yacht station shouldn't happen and Ranworth and Reedham continue a trend which will never be broken. It will be all the others next. This is a complete change in the BAs business model and one I will write to the BA and my MP about.

Remember, the BA received £440,000 extra from Defra after the Toll rise was announced. I agree it would have been 'good politics' to drop these charges.

If I was as eloquent as you I could have written that. 👍

    It describes my feelings perfectly.

The only thing I would take a slightly different view on is the charging at The Yacht Stations. It has been many many moons since I overnighted at GTY so I will have to ask if they provide any other services in addition to assisting mooring such as Pump Out like they do at Norwich to justify an overnight charge.

For the record I am more than willing to pay for several nights at both Beccles and Oulton Broad but of course they are not operated by BA.

Just think, if the Blessed Authority can’t get their own way and get charging for moorings in at Reedham implemented, they might have to inflate the pricing at Ranworth to compensate for their budgetary shortfall.

Maybe they plan to close the moorings at Ranworth over the winter, as they do at Yarmouth and Norwich, remove the hoses, turn off the taps and shut down the electric posts.

Am I alone in wondering why the BA have had their input on other threads here recently, but have remained noticeably absent from any contribution to justify their actions with regard to mooring charges?

    Good post Mouldy 👍

  14. Well it looks like my prediction of the charges being quietly dropped as a sop to Stakeholder consultation has not come true 😣

I will hold my hand up and admit I was wrong. 🫣

In my defense I admit I am really quite a gullible chap and I do tend to assume most people are genuine and remotely intelligent until proven otherwise.

I would have thought the way to go about stiffing The Stakeholders would have been to whack them with an eye watering increase in Tolls ( year on year BTW) then pretend they have listened to their Stakeholders and drop the double charging for moorings .

I now feel that an Authority that I have largely supported over the years has lost either it's way or it's common sense.

It now sees us Boaters as nothing but a cash cow.
