  1. Apologies, should have said high tide at Yarmouth. The boat is Richardsons San Elena with 6' 10'' air draft. Basically, I need to know the travelling time from Oulton Broad to Yarmouth with an incoming tide.
  2. It's Thursday 23rd July but does that matter? It's the high tide time of 2.32pm I'm thinking about.
  3. Will be moored at Oulton Broad and heading for Stokesby. HW 2.32pm. What time to leave?
  4. I've always come the A47 way because I like the route but thought the A11 may be quicker. But then looking at the map is not nearly as good as local knowledge. We will be at the end of the M6 around 11.30. Luckily, 3 young grandchildren will be in Mum and Dad's car not mine
  5. One for those that regularly travel down from the North. Once I reach the end of the M6, I usually go A14 and then at an early opportunity go up to the A47 all the way in. Is there any great advantage going the A14 > A11 route?
  6. It's not too bad - just quite a way from where I'd rather be ;-)

    Name that boat !

    Broadlander 1 looks closer: http://www.broads.org.uk/wiki/index.php5?title=Boat_Details&BoatId=7065&BoatHistory=11676

    Name that boat !

I believe the 76 one was "Broadlander"

    Name that boat !

I'm confused myself now and wondering if the 2nd picture is someone else's boat! I don't remember ever going with Buccaneer and in those days we always went with Blakes as Hoseasons was always considered a bit more expensive. I'm sure it was a Kingfisher Cruisers boat.

    Name that boat !

And if anyone is feeling really clever - how about this one from 1976. It was Richardsons.
  11. As it decided to pour with rain today I decided to upload all my Broads photos to albums on Facebook. Each album was named by the year including the boat name but I'm stuck on one year. I know we had Kingfisher Dawn in 87 and I'm pretty sure we went to the same yard in 88 but had a slightly larger boat. I can only find the attached 2 photos that give any sort of clue. Can anyone name that boat? Thanks. Alan.
  12. Who's this "Mike" fella? ;-)
  13. Just realised I'd never posted an introduction - better late than never ! First visits to the Broads were in 76 and 77 with the usual crowd of lads when you're in your late teens. Then came a few trips with my wife. Closely followed by numerous trips with wife and first one and then two children. Then came the visits with wife, daughter and her husband. Oh so quickly it was wife, daughter and hubby with grandson and a granddaughter quickly followed. Two weeks and we'll all be there again now with 3 grandchildren in tow. I think I like it on the Broads but best keep coming, just to make sure
  14. Won't be stopping off for the usual jamming session this year then !
  15. Doh! I missed the View New Content bit. Thanks Bobdog and BroadScot.
  16. So just to be clear as Thurne was going to be our intended mooring on the 24th July, is it still ok to moor in the dyke? And while I'm on, is there a button I'm missing to "view first unread post"?
  17. I think the last two trips would take us up to about 5 years ago but we didn't go through the bridge on either so probably 10 years since we last went through. Shame I won't be able to show off my skills this time ;-) Going to visit Coltishall this time - must be more than 30 years since we were there. I believe our daughter was about 2 and having a strop underneath the pub table !
  18. Never knew that there was a pilot for Wroxham bridge. Is this quite a new thing? Back down there on the 18th July after a 3 year gap - must do better !
  19. Nice site - wish it had been around when I started on the Broads (but then again the internet would of been handy then!) I like the comment on Wayford Bridge: "This bridge has little headroom at high water so car should be taken when passing through" - I suppose that could be driven along the river bed giving more headroom
  20. Sounds like another couple have been bitten by the bug ! Alan.
  21. I know what you mean but as a "hire boater" I take great pleasure in handling a boat in the most professional way I can - and though I say it myself, I am quite good. I've seen some excellent manoevres by hire boaters and I've seen some quite disastrous and frankly obnoxious behaviour from private owners. I don't think you can see a boat and decide whether it should moor next to you by whether it's hire or private. Alan.

    Hi

Have to agree with Martin about not attempting to get your own boat back in place. Our last outing was with Alphacraft Sabre and I'm sure that 20 feet Martin spoke of was only about 15 !! Alan.
  23. You'll have a whale of as time. Hope the weather's kind to you. Alan.
  24. I seem to remember Coldham Hall was our first stop when I was on the Broads with a bunch of lads in '76. The ploughman's were so big we didn't have to eat for the rest of the week Alan.
