  1. Time for some perspective:

I have just reviewed the crime statistics for Hoveton and I am pleased to announce for the 3 months to April recorded Anti Social Behaviour has fallen 42% against last year.

This would suggest to me that people are not reporting what they see. I dont believe that reporting it to the BA is enough I think any Anti Social Behaviour should be reported to the police via the non emergency number. Despite what you might hear Theresa May say about scrapping targets they are still alive and well and continually reporting crime is bad news for these targets.

In my spare time I am Special Constable and I can vouch that times are tough for the police with the cuts going on and a as a result patrols are targeted into the areas where there is a higher level of reported crime. If you want a police presence you need to report what you see.

For those of you that are lucky enough to live local make sure that you attend your local Neighbourhood Policing Team meetings, it is at these meetings that local priorities are set.

  2. BCBM have some shares for sale on Thunder which is the 43 foot dual steer bigger sister and she is lovely. The first owner is out on her this week. A lovely boat built with the bridges in mind.

There was a thread on here a while back about the design and I think it was Clive that said they just came out at the wrong time when there was not much investment money about to buy new boats.

  3. Bill,

I am not sure we are talking about the same thing. I have never seen hireboats in the basin where we moor but I havecertainly seen some moored behind -But they might have been ex hire up for sale. Infact I think you can some on the webcam? I have also seen men in the Norfolk Boat sales fleeces move boats from there over to the other side of the river.

But i appreciate you spend far more time than me there so I will bow to your greater knowledge cheersbar

  4. I'm lucky enough to live here ( :) ), and all of the Marinas here that I see on a regular basis are showing no signs of dropping customer numbers.

Likewise, I see no rise in brokerage sales, other than the normal increase at this time of year when more owners put their craft on the market because of the logical increase in interest from buyers in the Spring.

Thats interesting. At the old Moores yard where ES is moored at first glance the marina looks full but once you start paying attention some of the boats are Barnes hirecraft and a number are actually on the Norfolk Boat Sales website brokerage.

  5. As somebody said in a post above, Eddie the fish has kept very quiet on the subject of this thread, could it be that he suddenly realises he`s been caught?. By refusing to give a refund as required by the YHA`s t&c`s, they are in fact in breach of contract, and that puts them in very deep water (if you excuse the punns).

Or maybe he does not want to comment publically about HIS dealings with one of HIS customers..... Just a thought.

If you dont like it dont go there-SIMPLES.

There is no need to go on bad mouthing the place again and again and again.

  6. Bill I think you post is bang out of order. The T&Cs are there for all to see prior to paying to moor there but yet people still moor there and in other places where this condition is included in the contract.

If you returned your hireboat halfway through your weeks hire because you "did not fancy it" would you be asking for half your money back? I doubt it.

  7. Steve,

    my thoughts:

    1) 8 will be travelling, 4 adults and 4 kids aged 6 to 12. Good luck with that! A dingy is a great idea to keep children amused-assuming they are sensible enough or you are happy to spend hours rowing!

    2) We want to go to Great Yarmouth along the way. Is this easy to get to(would we need a taxi to the town or can we walk?), and where would we moor ? You can moor there, get a taxi or a train. The last 90 mins from the North into Yarmouth are pretty non descript but if you want to go there then go! But take note of slack water below....

    3) We plan to go for a week. Better than a short break!

    4) If we start at Great Yarmouth and we would like to finish there to as we would leave the car there. How far could we go in a week as we need to make sure we get back there at the end! As already has been said you cant start there. In a week if you really wanted to and you were happy to cruise 10 hours a day you could physically cruise the whole Broads. I dont advise it, but you can! I guess your kids will want to get off and explore and 8 people on a boat will need to be friendly! If you are into Nature there are good places at Ranworth, opoosit Salhouse Board and How Hill to name a few.

    5) What will petrol cost and how much should we need? Note point 4 and Teadermon's comments. Dont run your engine at the mooring to get hot water, take it turns to shower as you go along, go with the tide etc etc

    6) What route would be good for the kids? They like most things that are active, as we are a little worried they may get a little bored if nothing much to do! Check out Bewilderwood and how to get there-I would moor at Womack Water and catch the bus but there is obviously a taxi. Wroxham has a minutre railway if you are into that but in my opion rather expensive. Centre cockpit for me, but be prepared to lower the roof for bridges (bad if it is raining!)

    8) What is slack water and the times. I have read a little about this, so any further information would be great The tides around Yarmouth can be quite strong and should be respected. Slack water is as it says "slack"! That is to say the tide has turned and is at its weakest. Slkack water is 1 hour after low water at Yarmouth and this is the time you should aim to get there. Buffalo Bill galways gives good advice on this and says always aim to arrive just after slack water as you will then be heading into the tide giving you more control over the boat.

    Have a cracking week.

  8. Bill,

Your welcome to follow us through if the opportunity arises. Up for a week in June and a week in July.

I agree on the 6 foot 8 and have been through Wroxham at 7foot and had a good half a foot clearance.
