I am trying to pm a member when I try and send a pink square comes up against there name and it states they cannot receive mail

I believe that when you set up your account you are given the choice "do you wish to receive messages?"  It sounds very much like the member you are trying to contact had ticked the "no box".

It is frustrating when you want to contact a member who has done that, I remember someone who used to post here reasonably often who I wished to contact. I started an open post asking him to contact me by private message. He did so, we had our conversation and then he reverted to "no messages"  That's about the only route I can suggest.
