Bailey Bridge At Southwold

The Bailey Bridge over the river Blyth at Southwold which links Southwold to Walberswick is now closed as a result of a recent survey. Its not

known how long the bridge will be closed for.

Thanks for that, I'm heading down there in a couple weeks so will need to be moored on the southwold side then. (or can barriers be climbed over?)

The ferry is now down to weekends only but will be a daily service over half term holidays. It then closes for winter.

The ferry is still running to transport people across the river as a result of an agreement with the highways authority. There is now a notice on the bridge to say that it will be closed until at least April next year. The notice states that the problem is with corroded steel supports which hold up the walkway.

It's long been a Christmas tradition that Walberswick people walk off their excesses and visit the pubs of Southwold whilst Southwold folk, and even a few extra ones from Oulton Broad,  visit Walberswick. Either the Ferry will do a roaring trade or that's one less pub crawl this Christmas!!
