Suffered a complete fire yesterday, a real blow to the town. It was owned by Bakers & Larner.

Pleased no one was hurt and hope as many of the staff as possible can be redeployed elsewhere in the B&L stores & associated companies such as the builders merchants. Theres never a good time to be made redundant but it seems a bad time if it ends up that way for any employee. A definite blow to Holt, this is my in-laws nearest grocery store and has been a godsend especially in the C' lockdown.

From a rebuild perspective I've always thought this a big roof for this type of covering and looks out of proportion, albeit not as big as NNDC's offices, I hope the rebuild is an opportunity to put something nicer back even if 'modern', albeit probably more fireproof (I know and currently work with the foreman who supervised the roof build and he said it was a 'biggun' and had some structural worries, unfounded however as the steel was obviously well up to the job looking at whats left...
