Wroxham seems to be struggling to get above 6'3" at the moment. Currently not much over 6'. For me, the stretch above Wroxham is the best bit of the Broads (I may be biased having grown up playing down at Caen Meadow).

Yes, one of our fav places as well - we tried getting under last week at low tide (8am in the morning) and it was 6"3" and we need 6"7". So not only unable to go above Wroxham, but also unable to moor up anywhere without paying a fee between £10 & £15. So Roys and Norfolk Marine missed out on a little business as well

That's so frustrating - two moorings, up to 84 spaces in Hoveton, plus another 3 within walking distance at "Castle staithe" (still just Caen Meadow in my mind) and you can't get to any of them. The bridge filtering out excessively large dual helm cruisers is one thing, but it's another when you can't get a sensible sub 7' boat through.

I keep meaning to have a look at the planning application Barnes have just had approved to see what impact that's going to have on moorings. I know it's to remove a bit of land and to replace with a pontoon, but not sure how large the area.

you just need sensible wooden boats, Water Rail can do Wroxham at 6 foot (maybe even at 5'11") but needs 6'3" at Potter Heigham (due to the corners of the roof at the back), very rarely she cant do great Yarmouth at high tide.

Like at Potter Heigham too. Loads of mooring after the bridge, let alone all those lengths up Heigham sound that are maintained on our toll money.

Okay for sailey, flappy things, paddleboards and canoes/kayaks, fairly much in line with National Park aspirations.  Or is that me being cynical?

We stopped at Ranworth last week but mooring charges were not being levied. I was amazed to find there were 3 people sitting in the BA office with door locked, so I couldn't get the electric cards I needed. There were 2 more outside wearing lifejackets and jackets saying 'National Park'.  2 rangers standing on the bank with their boat moored in the cut.

Moored at Acle bridge this morning, 3 men came past pushing one mower. One in front, one with the mower, one walking behind.
Also a young lady getting on with the strimming. So I asked her why there were 3 men for one mower. She said they were volunteers so weren’t being paid, but she had already rung the office to ask someone to bring another mower.

2 things I replied - one is lack of forward planning and second is if I was a volunteer, I’d be totally hacked off to spend my day trailing along behind some pushing a mower.

At least she’d tried to rectify the silliness of it.

At least two paddleboard hire companies have closed and another local specialist paddleboard retailer has closed their high street store. Basing management of the local economy and infrastructure on short terms trends, which might well prove to be fads (especially during/after a pandemic) seems particularly short sighted. Boat hire is the predominant input into the local economy and has been for more than a century. Anyone who bases their actions on anything significantly different will probably go down in history as a fool. Dr.P seems well on his way to such infamy.

Infamy . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Why am I reminded of a line from a Carry On film.  ‘Oh why have they got it in for me?’

In your case JP, the answer is probably rhetorical!:default_coat:
