Whittlingham Moorings

Mouldy

Recommended Posts

I’ve just read on Facebook that signs have appeared on the moorings at Whittlingham, advertising that the moorings are open and free between 09:00 - 16:00, with an overnight charge of £10 per night for up to three nights.  There is a QR code to facilitate payment.

Whether these charges have been introduced to dissuade the liveaboards that had taken up residence, or even to provide a mechanism to get them moved on, or whether it’s a genuine attempt at reopening the moorings for visitors to the Country Park, it’s difficult to say.

It’s some time since we’ve been that far along The Yare to check their condition, but if anyone does venture that far, it would be good to get a proper update.

Thanks Malcolm, that sounds hopeful. We liked the Whitlingham mooringsas they are good for dog walks. We might even consider paying £10 for that convenience. The only downside is being woken up early by the rowers…not so much the rowers as their trainers using blooming megaphones.

And creating considerable wash in the safety boats!

A while ago we contacted the Whitlingham Trustees to see what the score was re the moorings. They said at the time that they were due to be brought back into use so I guess it’s happening now. We’ve been past a few times this year and the condition of the moorings is questionable as I don’t think they’ve been touched since BA gave them up. Interestingly, a couple of small ‘no mooring’ signs had popped up. Not sure if these were put there by the trustees or the frequent visitors/liveaboards. As to a £10 overnight charge, it’s a good way of getting more daytime visitors to the park.
