Hello Lori,

 

The reason the picture looks strange is because the bridge in the picture was demolished around 1977/1978, the enbankments were removed about 20 years earlier.  

The bridge was the Bure Bridge. By the looks of the picture this bridge offered more clearance than the two remaining bridges.

:-) thanks guys for all your info, you don't realise how much things change til you see old postcards like that, i never knew there was such things as gibbets john, maybe they should bring them back , ive never heard of sirdar trambo, it must ave been before my time lol , by the way alan , why did they take the bridge down ? Lori ;-)

Hi Lori,

 

As Liz says the railway closed, the M & GN line went from the Beach Station crossing the Bure and across the enbankment and onto the Breydon Viaduct that closed in 1953 and was demolished in 1962.

That structure would have been worth saving unlike Vauxhall Bridge and the £600,000 plus that is being put into the Vauxhall Bridge Project.
