to Navigation due to Dredging on River Chet

NOTICE BROADS AUTHORITY

NOTICE TO MARINERS No.11 of 2013

Restriction IS HEREBY GIVEN that dredging operations on the River Chet between Loddon Basin and Pyes Mill may restrict passage between Monday 25 November 2013 and Friday 7 March 2014.

During this period dredging will be in operation between 07:00 and 18:00 daily, excluding weekends. During each period of operation delays of up to 1½ hours may occur. Mariners must await clear instructions from the dredging crew before attempting to pass.

Outside of the hours of operation a minimum width of 12ft/3.65m will remain past the works equipment for the passage of vessels.

All equipment will be lit and signage will be in place to warn of restriction and delays.

Mariners must exercise great care whilst proceeding past the works.

That's the Chet out for us until spring then by the looks of it. We are 12'6" beam so it would be an even tighter squeeze than normal!

Worth bearing in mind perhaps that officially anything over 12'6" beam is restricted on the Chet according to the BA bylaws.  Actually, over 12'6" is very restricted on where she can go: http://www.broads-authority.gov.uk/broads/live/boating/navigating/byelaws/Vessel_Dimensions_Byelaws.pdf

Oops, I just double checked and we're actually 12'2", not 12'6". Phew!

 Up to and including 12'6" is ok - it's over 12'6" which is more problematic..!

They did say a 'minimum', so unlikely to be less than 12' 6" even as they

like to err on the side of caution to exempt them from liability.
