pks1702
If it doesn't say Raymarine, Furuno, Volvo, Webasto, Yanmar etc on it I'm not interested in making it work. Truth is I am happy taking the snaps as I can do that. Making the other bits work........ very much David's specialist area
Guest
If it doesn't say Raymarine, Furuno, Volvo, Webasto, Yanmar etc on it I'm not interested in making it work. Easily sorted. You could be the first owner of a Webasto digital camera!
Antares_9
Couldn't work it though Simon, says Dymo on it.
Guest
Actually it says Brother, but that can be changed too. Who knew Webasto not only made cameras but labellers too.
pks1702
I have updated the thumbnails to larger images on Page 16 to make them easily viewable. David always has a project on... before we left on Monday I am sure he was contemplating an outside lavvy on Kingfisher
Antares_9
Simple hole through the swim platform and I can polute along with the most traditional of broads yachts. I also thought if I built a shack of old sticks around it I could then moor up some fetid dyke and not be out of place.

pks1702
Kiki & Kingfisher were lifted out ready for a weekend of work followed by some anti fouling this week (having been given time to dry) and dropped back in before this weekend. This meant everything being completed in a weekend - boy my arms ache from restoring, waxing, Polishing and sealing it was an early until late weekend but we did manage a Social event Saturday evening with SPYC and a pass out on Sunday PM for an hour to attend a BBQ on the banks of the Orwell & the marina. In prime position Anodes worked then! Where has it gone I woke up looked out and......... Very organised While we were relaxing there was a shout, and boy do the RNLI not mess about. Yotties scattered on all sides, believe me the wash was something else Sorry only had a p&s with me and this was around half a mile away. After all the hard work..... Kingfisher Kiki Prop Anode to go on Anti fouling in the next 48 hours and back in ready for action. Finally someone checking over my ship! Edit for typo
Guest
You could brush your hair in the reflection off those hulls Perry - no wonder your arm was aching!
pks1702
It was very satisfying Simon and based on last year the sealant really is the key to making the finish last. After I had finished David approached Kiki with a hose only as part of the QA testing procedure you understand The water just ran straight off repelled instantly without a drop left - I have a stealth boat at present
Guest
Hi Perry KiKi & Kingfisher look Stunning I know i am showing my dumb side but what are anodes used for?? now dont you lot laugh Jonny
Guest
Sacrificial metal Jonny. It's complicated if you go into the whole theory of electrolysis and anodes / cathodes etc but essentially it means you stick something metal on your boat which is more reactive than the metal around it and it corrodes first, protecting the bits you don't want to corrode. Guest
ahhh makes sense now thanks Simon must be expensive then ow & the prop too Jonny
pks1702
must be expensive then ow & the prop too Simon's explanation is right Jonny but if you want some bedtime reading.....http://www.mgduff.co.uk/leisure-craft/c ... ction.html I would rather fit a number of sacrificial (Zinc in our case) anodes than having my rudder and prop chewed away It depends on the type of water you are in as to what metal you will use; general rule of thumb is: Salt Water - Fit Zinc or Aluminium Anodes In Brackish Water - Fit Aluminium Anodes In Fresh Water - Fit Magnesium Anodes The ones that I had fitted were Aluminium as we were on the Broads in a Brackish area (Goodchild) with forays to Sea. As you can see from the images they have fizzed away rather too quickly although clearly doing their job once fully sea based. We have fitted Zinc this time as we are 100% sea based now. Guest
so how long will the new ones last Perry? Jonny
pks1702
Only until next year when I change them again Jonny You can't really skimp on anodes and how long they last depends on lots of parameters, marina's vary. If they are part worn next year who is to know how long they will last; too big a risk to take so replace and be safe.
Antares_9
On the subject, did Shotley manage to source the "special" or are they fitting a shaft colar Perry?
pks1702
They felt confident they could source a special; I sent your Vetus link - thanks. I won't be surprised to haul her out next year only to find a collar in place though!
pks1702
Well no special could be sourced even the Vetus was a keyway job so next year I will need to change the Prop Nut to accommodate a fitting which I can get an Anode for! Ready to go back in this afternoon with collar fitted as near the prop as is reasonable. Kingfisher is back on Station but parked in the wrong hole

Antares_9
Sorry Perry, I'll have him move it, seriously, I did instruct for her to be lift on "B" so we could nip over th the fuel berth on the way back to the mooring. You just can't get the staff anymore.
