    Fishing

I am a complete non fisher, cannot understand why all the hullaballoo about the close season. Correct me if I am wrong, but I have always understood that by fishing, you were relaxing, taking it easy. So, why go ape over a few months when the fish get peace to do what fish do! Iain
  6. I moored up in that very space last year on Broadway2 on a very windy day in early May. My wife n sister were out at the stern just in case I kissed the posh private boat. But, with bow and stern thrusters, it was a much easier manouver than without the toys! With both thrusters you can move sideways without having to use any ropes. Iain
  7. 50/50 well it could have been worse MMAlso ....well done finding a mooring at Horning Easter Saturday! Iain
  8. The bridge pilot has the exact heights, hence I always say phone them to save a possible wasted trip. Iain
  9. Strowie, there are now I believe well over 12,000 private craft on the Broads,so the chances of being bumped by the remaining 750 or so hire craft will IMHO, increase the ratio of possible accidents. There will always be the "skipper" I use that word very loosly who could receive two hours instruction, and still cause mayhem once out on the rivers. All many can think of is.....where can I stop, yes stop, not moor up to get to a pub! I have heard and seen it with my own eyes, its not right, that goes without saying, but, the Norfolk Broads is a HOLIDAY area and you just gave to grit the old gums and hope it never happens to you. If it does, then numbers exchanged and boatyards informed should be rule of thumb. Iain
  10. Hi Andrew, Welcome to the NBN Forum The members use the Chat room on a Monday night for the Quiz. Iain
  11. You are all forgeting one thing, the hirers pay a kings ransom in high season, the last thing they will wish to do is hang about waiting for detailed instruction, that the yards just do not have the time to do! This thread is turning into a hire against private owner. Nothing has changed over tHe decades except there are more larger craft possibly than in times past. Many have bow and stern thrusters so mooring should be easier, but is it? I had a boat with all the toys last year, a crew that have been used to my helming for years, but, in the winds it is still not easy to moor the bathtubs, so bumps will continue to happen, know matter how much instruction the hirer will receive...IMHO. Iain
  12. Bring back the little book we use to get when we booked our holiday. It had lots n lots of good sound information on all aspects of boating! Iain
  13. Hi Woodsafloat, Welcome tothe NBN Forum A surprise boat would you believe is one of the ex Porter & Haylett now at Herbert Woods, big as they are, they often get through that hole! Not me saying this, the Ex Pilot ! If however you intend to book with Brinkscraft, then possibly Brinks Airies may make the passage through. Failing that, phone the Bridge Pilot for his thoughts. Iain
  14. Hi John, I hope the op goes ok, and you will be out on Friday Girl asap. Iain
  15. My worry is, it puts off first timers, and they wont book again. Hopefully it all calms down soon, and folks get to enjoy the real Broads. Brittish weather, don't you just love it!!! Iain
  16. Where were you moored? If on the open river, then yes, I would imagine it would not be very pleasant at all. Iain

  19. Expensive it is...and some! Going back decades ago, my mate was over at a Rover/ Jaguar bash. A brandy then was £10.00 a glass, coffee dear also. As he said at the time, he was so pleased it was all on company expenses! It is though, a lovely place to visit. Iain
