  1. Nice to see some advertisement. Once again no Hoseasons in sight. Well done Herbert woods though.
  2. from me too Jon. Enjoy your next trip and enjoy the forum.
  3. Thanks, sadly I need tomorrow really as it's eating the power
  4. Lol.. it's cold enough for ice cubes as it is What is on this boat robin is just what you describe though and it clearly works although we just don't have the space to keep it.. I'd rather have a big oven that's all If you can find me MR15 (24v) LED for under a tenner please help!! I'm thinking of changing the fittings (Not sure how easy that is though.. Can we just change the bit the cable goes into?
  5. Hi Robin, I admit I've scanned this. But looks sound advice. Sadly for us we don't have a lot of space.. The crown is very very well designed, so much so that inside it's one boat where the internals are on top of each other, so there is no free space for large appliances, if that makes sense! So there really is very little free space to put normal appliances. This is one massive headache and one reason we looked at other boats which would convert to a cruising liveaboard a bit better. (but sod it there's lots more positives..!). We do have a little freezer which came with the boat (and I mean little 30 x 30 x 30 cm one!). but this is currently under the electric cooker (which is going too..A LPG one is going in). So I've decided that I don't use the freezer enough so I've sacrificed that to use that space for a nice big (gas) oven (as I like my cooking) and I never really used a freezer on the last boat anyway. I'm hoping to hide this little freezer in the engine room. Although (somewhat) annoyingly the gap in there is taken up by a genset (which I want to keep) It may just fit. we will see.. Also like you say this boat is (actually) all 24v system (Nav gear is 12v and there's the odd 240v plug) but it doe's have a funky inverter/power charger/gen set integrator thing/thing (which has a mind of it's own) which should do all the magic you mention. (Must admit I've already had a few headaches over finding bloody led light bulbs for 24v.. grr (£10 a bulb!! ) ) Also I don't want to leave systems on to just keep the freezer going and I don't want to have to worry about food spoiling when we cruise about/get stuck away without shorepower for long periods (although as you say the inverter then works (which it does at the moment) but evenso.. I'm not a fan of 240v on boats as you know. But still sound advice for other readers though. Freezers on boats seems a bit silly to me
  6. Yeah could do John. It probably wouldn't be this year though. I'm not aiming on getting a BSC done but I think we can get into oulton without a BSC on a short toll. It maybe easier to bring Orca instead but we will see.. A slow trip up the east coast maybe nice
  7. There's no plans at the moment to bring this one up to norfolk. That's Orca's domain, but never say never
  8. Thanks chaps, thankfully on this one, most of its here (and she's been throughly surveyed so no surprised should turn up - Although she is ashore at the moment whilst certain things are done) from what we can see at the moment it's just little random bits to make it a little more comfortable.. So (fingers crossed) it won't be much but I'll try to do something to keep things entertaining. I'm hoping to team up "Rascal productions" and when we go out for a sea trial we will get the team there to join us and film it lol I'll do a catch up to start the story as soon as I get a few moments.
  9. Yes we are back for 2016.. A new project, a larger boat.. A norfolk classic. In this thread you will follow the real life story of the modernisation of a Norfolk classic coastal cruiser... ...From a unloved abandoned ornament into a modern (ish) and well loved cruising (ish) boat! A project which will span years and many thousands of pounds! Get ready for the adventure... Click the "follow" link (top right corner) to get the first updates! Another haggard repair. MMXVI
  10. Brian wards of course.. If they don't have stock..try these: https://www.seascrew.com/browse.cfm?ONLINE-CATALOGUE&l=TOP
  11. we have been in and I mean to go back and sort an account out, although a friend of mine here owns a chandlers so we get near to trade prices anyway and I can collect locally for free... which is hard to beat..
  12. Thanks strowager.. always nice to know these types of companies.. http://www.beardshaw.co.uk/index.html sadly no online ordering service but I guess they would post.
  13. I love it when hoseasons are quick to add their views yet since the yanks took it over their advertisement efforts have pretty much stopped.. Richardsons (and Robin) these days do a much better job..
  14. My poor new section.. isn't there a Bald old gits section for you oldies lol
  15. I know what you mean.. It's ok if you like your own company and not seeing anything all day lol
  16. How about a rag and stick boat closer to home happy? It's a different world and you are obviously close to the continent there, you could even sail up to the broads and grab a hireboat . I'm sure I can find someone at our yacht club here on the medway if you want a taster
  17. No... This is the British isles we are not in europe.. we are in europe purely for economic reasons (and I'm voting "In") It's the equivalent of drinking a pint... do you really want to order a "568.261ml" instead of a pint?? (Plus it's sounds less in gallons lol)..
  18. I don't normally say this as I'm one for saying go south but I agree with Broadsword.. Don't do yarmouth. Even as a stag party. The broads as advertised are right were you are picking the boat up. Towards yarmouth you have several hours of seeing nothing and doing nothing only to arrive at a mooring which you need to carefully plan and think about.. not ideal if you are brand new to boats. From Potter heigham head towards wroxham, you can mudweight (drop anchor) on three large broads, south walsham, ranworth and salhouse.. all are big enough that if you are enjoying yourselves (making noise) then you will just be adding to the holiday mood. If you want to go out in a town one evening then go to wroxham and get a cab to norwich, the cab will only be about 20 quid and norwich has lots of bars and nightclubs (You can get there by boat but you need a week at least to get there and back)
  19. Wow thanks for that. That's much better than the VP's then.. Cool.. we will hopefully get a bit of cruising done then
  20. That's correct Iain.. you punters need to be sold a dream, so if you want to call it a galley, feel free, but on ours it looks like a 1970's kitchen... My parents ex-council house had the doors fronts In respect of Mr Broom, I think we need a rule in this new section.. Anyone incorrectly referring to Brooms boats will receive 10 warning points..
  21. Lol.. It's more of a matter of how far we can go compared to affording it.. yes we can't afford £1k weekends but I'd like to run over to France every now and again. At present I've not found any ideas on fuel consumption. Someone said it's about 6gph (at 10kts) which sounds a bit low to me. But if it is about that then we can use more. I'm planning on topping the tanks up and then having little trips out so we don't run out when we are out but it would be nice to know how long a tank is meant to last.
  22. Yes we went for the crown. Number 3. We looked at a few oceans but we was sold on the interior of the crown; spiral staircase, aft cabin, kitchen layout. I offered low on this one and to my surprise they took our offer without hesitation. It was meant to be seaworthy but on survey we found all seacocks are bad/loose and the fuel tanks are empty (aka full of rubbish) so brought her home on a lorry. The oceans look lovely though, proper boats. What fuel economy do you get cruising at sea?
  23. Thanks for that.. That doesn't sound too bad.. one large reason we went with a broom was that the tamb's in alternatives just had alarming reviews. I'll let Dave know about these bits so he can see. I think all of these are new on ours so should be OK. But once started up we can check out. The cheques in the post for the owners club so hopefully we will be members soon. What boat have you got liberty?
  24. I'll have to watch that later Robin. The rebuilt engines were certainly a plus point for it..our engines certainly look very shinny.. There's not many that have been rebuilt (although quite a few alternatives had lots of work and most had low hours) Sadly we've not heard them run yet as we brought her ashore (houseboat first then motor boat and we had a very short deadline being required as a liveaboard). At the moment all 15 seacocks need changing (well they don't but they do in my book) and we are trying to work out why, when using the (complex) shorepower/battery charger/inverter/white box system the alternator warning light is coming on (Scary stuff!).. She's more work than we hoped but Dave needs something to do in the evenings and he's got his work cut out, also there's no real rush.. as we still have Orca to play with.. Were's the leaking issue though? Anything we need to be aware off? Although it's some weeks before we put her in at this rate. I'm going to join the Broom owners club as there's bit on here we want to sell, like seats, table and dodgy grp spray dodgers and get on the forum there but it seems to take weeks to join as it's cheques and paperwork.
