  1. We put away £2500 a year for Orca. That's just the bits for her to sit on her berth and a chunk spare for maintenance/ improvements. I don't know how much I spend just being in norfolk on the boat.. but I think it's easy to forget that you spend money at home and certainly as I have a long commute to work (so my weekly fuel bill is eye watering) so I suspect I actually probably only spend a little bit more than if I was at home. But it's spent as it should on local shops and pubs. I honestly wouldn't mind paying for private mooring charges if it's a nice mooring and really think more land owners should do it. I think it's cheaper to use the boat than going overseas and it's instant holiday feeling in a couple of hours from home and I don't think anything can beat the relaxation you get from being on the river in Norfolk. The boat to me is priceless and at present there's no real budget for it so it costs what it costs.
  2. I need an over my head smiley.. Orca has 1 engine, 1 big domestic battery and runs everything we need including satellite TV, fridge, lights and electric loo, heating .. I don't get why anyone would want a boat all modern.. It should be like camping but just a bit posher. Credit to you as always Robin for looking into this stuff
  3. from me too! We may as well be out around that time will look out for you!
  4. Thanks for suggestions all. Sadly all of those avenues have already been investigated. No luck for various reasons.
  5. Not for me (heaven forbid) but know a cash buyer looking for a 40+ bath tub type boat. GRP. Hull needs to be good. Engine doesn't overly matter although a running state will be good. Anywhere within the UK. PM me details or reply below. (We have looked on most sales pages and nothing stands out.. sadly one interested one has sold).
  6. Amazing. Very talented.. He needs to do some Broadland scenes though
  7. Trust you all to get onto drink!... and Gracie can't take any blame.. (for once )
  8. Danka It's not helping that i keep changing my mind if I want to learn German or French! I want to travel the french canals one day so french would be better but my nan was from Germany so I want to learn that too! (At the moment none are happening!) Thanks for ordering the burgee, I'm not sure who sends them out but hopefully John or John can see this and check your address first. It sounds like you are all set for a brilliant adventure, I live aboard in Kent and it can be fun (it's less fun in the winter but so is a house!) We have our other boat in Norfolk to get away and it's magical. I'd love to live on the broads but I'm not quite ready Looking forward to meeting you on the rivers.
  9. Hallo und Willkommen I can't write German that well so I won't try any further. Please do tell us more about yourselves. If you are on Facebook we have a facebook group there too. Search for "Norfolk broads network", Also grab yourself an NBN burgee so we can all spot you (http://shop.norfolkbroadsnetwork.com/index.html#blog) Tschuss

    Moorings

Nah Robin. Thankfully we can get through at a low tide (on a summers day) as we are only about 7.5. I've got my parents alpha through and they are 8.6 (but only had guts for one quick drink! We will get down there one day soon

Locks inn.. Oh I really fancy a weekend up there before it gets busy.. have to arrange something soon...
  13. I'd more worried about using apple There's nothing in chrome that I know off that would cause concern. Chrome is better written and helpful for developers so most websites will work a bit better in this compared to others.
  14. Steve (I'm guessing you are a Steve ) The south is amazing! It's more coastal and a typical east coast river feel, Very quiet and peaceful.. Lovely place.. Sadly I've moved up north this season ( ). You could spend weeks and weeks down there. I'm not too sure there's too much of a point for me to comment regarding pubs considering Howard (et al) has covered lots (He's the broads expert in pubs!) . Although here goes, the best pubs on the broads are down south so you will be missing our big time if you don't go down. The Dukes head at Somerleyton is my favorite on the broads, it's got a charm and the food is amazing at a very good price and they do local beers. Other favorites are; Locks inn at Geldeston (See for yourself), The Waveney House Hotel Beccles Nice riverside bar.. Not bad food. Good spot, nice sunset, White Horse Chedgrave (Loddon).. Good all round, Reedcutters Cantley.. Very homely.. Massive portions (Don't have lunch that day!), New Inn Rockland. Good all round too. Have a good time. Let us know your thoughts after your trip!
  15. Take a look here: http://www.boatjumbleassociation.co.uk/ It looks like Newark is this sunday!
  16. Try and use Chrome as a browser Ray. There seems to be lots of reports of the apple browser being a bit flunky. Most developers now code mainly for Chrome so it's always a better choice.
  17. Hi James, I certainly agree it's a special place. I hired for many years before finally giving in and buying. I've never hired from Richardsons but obviously know them well and they are one of the top yards on the broads so you clearly can't go wrong with them. We may well be out on the 25th, 26th March so will look out for you. We are on a 30 foot cruiser called "Orca" give us a wave if you see us Have a brilliant time and feel free to do a holiday write up on here after or during! If you are on facebook we have a facebook group on there too. Search for "Norfolk broads network"
  18. to the forum. Please feel free to tell us a bit about yourself!
  19. No, it's probably got a dodgy connection on the motherboard.. you could take it into someone although they may try and sell you a new motherboard/laptop if they don't know how to solder. Try a smaller shop and definitely not a PC world.. Good luck.
  20. Hi Robin, I would have one boat in Norfolk which was a river boat and one sea boat elsewhere so when norfolk gets too busy we can go and play at sea.. (p.s I'd also have a light aircraft so I can fly between them..)
  21. We had a triple keel (Falmouth Gypsy).. I didn't dare bring it into the broads. Weighed about 3 tons. Turning circle resembled that of a tanker. The Medway and Thames estuary weren't even big enough at times. Brilliant for cruising the coast but sod trying to go inland with them. (Popular boats though. Volvo MD2's though.. Ask Steve on LadyP what his thoughts are on these engines!).
  22. Here's a reply I got from: North Norfolk Council. Dear Mr Hathaway Thank you for your email. North Norfolk District Council currently provides 16 bin compound areas across the North Norfolk Broads. However, due to changes in the legislation affecting the classification of this waste and an associated increase in disposing of the waste collected from these facilities, combined with the scale of misuse which goes on at the facilities in terms of deposit of unauthorised waste and the poor physical condition of many of the structures, we have taken the decision to remove 13 of the 16 facilities. We plan to implement this change by the end of March 2016, removing the bins and associated structures, unless agreements can be reached with relevant landowners and/or other public bodies to take over the running of the facilities. Since the change in legislation in 2012, Council officers have worked with the Broads Authority, the other Councils in the Norfolk Waste Partnership (NWP) and representatives from the Broads Hire Boat Federation to develop and implement a Norfolk-wide approach to the provision of waste facilities for users of the Broads. Within the NWP, a position was agreed to ensure that a consistent approach could be taken across all of the Councils currently providing Broads boat waste collections. The NWP agreed that Councils should not pick up the entire cost of waste collection and disposal and that other public and private landowners, including The Broads Authority, The Environment Agency, The National Trust and others, should be expected to make arrangements for provision of services on their land. Similarly, Council waste facilities should not be provided at commercial moorings, unless the landowner enters into a commercial contract covering the cost of both emptying and disposing of the waste. The providers of these moorings often make financial gain from both mooring fees and commercial services, such as food and drink sales and the existing service is an effective subsidy to their businesses. This approach has been accepted by all Councils and already implemented in some areas. Great Yarmouth Borough Council removed all of their waste facilities in 2014 and as of April 2015, Broadland District Council reduced their waste disposal provision to just two sites. Colleagues at the two Councils have indicated that the impact of this change has been minimal and in a report to the Broads Authority Navigation Committee in December 2015, it was stated that Broads Authority rangers had reported that during 2015 there were no significant complaints or issues of fly tipping at any of the sites. We are currently contacting the local town and parish councils and the organisations and landowners where facilities are currently provided to see if they are able and willing to take over the services. A full list and map of the remaining waste disposal points across the broads, is available on the Broads Authority website at http://www.broads-authority.gov.uk/boating/facilities/waste-facilities. In addition, a number of premises offer waste disposal facilities as part of their mooring fees, however, we are not aware of a comprehensive list of these areas.
