1. Twice- first time moored on Salhouse an my 6 month old ha a raging temp and shivers. Rang NHS Direct and within 45 mins Doctor was onboard.

Second time-latest child had developed a proper chesty cough, rang the Doctors in Hoveton about 2pm and had an appoint for 4pm-quicker than I would have at home.

:wave hi matt, how did you find the numbers for the docs ? cheersbar

2. :wave hi everyone, with the weather getting warm again i'm suffering with my migraines again, & it got me wondering , how do you go about finding doctors around the broads ? & is it easy to see a doctor down there when you're not from around there & you are on holiday ? has anybody ever had to use the doctors down there when you've been down there & have you ever had any problems with them ? lori cheersice slice
3. :wave in all the years that ive been hiring on the broads which is about 12 years ive only ever been asked once to take a test & that was with richardsons, & we've hired some quite big boats, the biggest one was sand couger which i think was about 38ft long, &i must admit it did take some handling but we never banged it once, we were alw ays careful as we always are with other peoples property. Lori
4. Beccles is open air, nice in this weather once the water has had a chance to heat up but bloody cold if you are snatching the odd sunny day in a normal summer.

It is right on the river bank but a good 15 minute walk from the yacht station.

WRC and the ferry up north are probably the best but will get crowded in peak holiday time and cost a bit more than your local baths.

Thanks for info senator, but i think it will be a little cold when we go in september lol, i seem to remember one at ranworth broad i think, did it get shut down for health reasons ? I can't remember. Lori

5. Unfortunately a drawback to the broads but unlucky to get hit that many times Paul.

I work on only once or twice a month on the southern broads. Bad enough when the people on board the hire boats are civil about it but people wonder why hire boats are treated with suspicion until they have carried out a manuovre with a degree of competence in view of you.

We all had to learn but I would like to think that most of us were and still are apologetic of our mistakes.

Could have been worse, you could have been up north but if BA are serious about attracting more visiting boats to the broads then something has got to be done about the general standard of instruction before hirers are let lose to smash up private boats on the broads.

Hi senator, i'm afraid i have to agree with you there, you see that many strugling with some of the

big boatsthat it makes you wonder why they hire them when they can't handle them, because when you think about it, if they were on the road they'd actually be driving an hgv lorry when you look at the size of some of them boats, & i think if it's their first time on the broads with a big boat then they should have a proper test drive, i'm afraid just taking the boat up the river for a quick test is not enough. 6. :wave afternoon everyone, & what a beautiful afternoon it is too, i wandered if anyone can help me, ive just taken up swimming & i'm enjoying it, ive only been 5 times so far bht have got upto 20 lengths already, & i would like to go when i'm kn my hols too, can anybody tell me if there is any swimming pools on the broads on either the north or south side near the rivers

,that are easy to get to ? Lori cheersice slice

7. wave :wave hi everybody, long time no see, seeing that picture is a little worrying, at the angle he's going at , but i don't think everybody needs a pilot to go through wroxham bridge, i think it's all down to common sense, & looking at the height level before going through the bridge,as alot of people have hired boats before so they know what to do & are usually sensible about it, although the people who hire ARE lucky to be able to have a pilot if they want one,we've just been on the broads with george smith at wroxham, & they told us that they did'nt have a contract with whoever runs that scheme,:ie. either the pilot or hoseasons/blakes, they told us that if we wanted to go under wroxham bridge, then we we're on our own, but to be careful, the boat was called sallyB with a height of was 6.10 , so we checked the bridge height which was only just under 7.ft ,as the water was a little high, so we slowly went under chains & there seemt plenty of room but actually going the through bridge we found we only had an inch spare but we were sensible & took it through slowly & got through ok, the people at the yard also told us that they were fed up people damaging their centre cockpit boat & it was in the shed being repaired again, as it had been damaged 4 times since they'd had it, so i guess it just goes to show that not everyone IS sensible, i don't know where you have been john ,but you don't get your damage waiver back anymore, that stopped years ago. but just to tell another bit of info, when you hire from them you don't get your fuel money back, it's all included in the price, with your damage waiver etc, & the only downside to hiring from them is that you have to take your own bedding, but on a good note, you don't have to take the boat back til 4.30 pm, so you get a lye in , nice :) as they hire by the day not night like hoseasons/blakes. lori cheersice slice

here is a pic of sallyB just to show you how high she is,post-937-136713909883_thumb.jpg

15. A very interresting subject this one Ian. My own personal choice would be a Broads design with either fwd drv, or ctr or aft ckpt, both with collapsable top and screens. Why?, because i want to be able to travel at a leisurely pace throughout the whole of the broads network. That said, i fully support others who own, or would like to own a modern fast seagoing boat based on the broads, as they contribute just as much, both in tolls, and other forms of local revinue as i would on a designated broads design. As Geoffers (donnygeoff) says, it`s a personal preference, and one that gives you more choice of cruising range. I can`t understand the reasoning behind the "unsuitable" tag of offshore boats, because over time, many offshore performance craft have been built on the broads network. Famous names such as Broom/Ocean and Jack Powels were building sea going craft for many years in broadside boatyards. If somebody wants a big Sealine, or a little Hampton 25 (like me) they should ALL be not only welcome, but also ENCOURAGED, as it brings diversity to what would otherwise be a waterway akin to the canals. That`s NOT knocking the canals, but there are is very little diversity in the choice of "siutable" boats, unlike the broads.

One other point, how many of us can remember the coasters that regularly used to travel up the yare to unload at the sugar factory at cantley, or the factories in Norwich. Would they be considered as unsuitable?.

For me, there IS one type of "unsuitable" boat for the broads, and that`s a big yacht like a Moody or Oyster etc, purely and simply because of their deep draughts, and inability to simply their masts quickly.[/quot

hi daytona, there's one big boat you forgot to mention golden galleon.JPG

16. :wave hi everyone i found this postcard on ebay of an old pub, but i can't ever remember seeing it,i think it was called bure court hotel, & was suppose to have been in wroxham, can anybody remember it & remember where it was ? lori :Stinky
17. Hi Lori

Is it San Remo you're talking about, if so its gone down - peak season in 2012 £808 and 2011 peak was £818.

I doubt demand for the peak season has dropped, so the fact the price has is something worth celebrating, perhaps the tenner saving could be spent in the pub doing just that!! cheers

All the other price bands look cheaper for 2012 than in 2011 as well, or am I looking at the wrong boat?

Starting midweek and building up the loyalty card (assuming we are talking about Richardsons) by booking direct are all good suggestions if you're planning on it being a regular thing, though I think many holiday companies have moved to

doing their best offers for those booking early, and Richardsons seem to do a good price anyway and then mostly just stick to that (with the odd little deal occasionally of small reductions that I've seen on the website from time to time)....

which to be honest sits well with me as an honest & fair way to run a business hence why I like to use them.

Dan

:wave hi dan, no it's not san remo, it was sandcouger, it was one of our favourite boats, & i can't seem to find the fuel price either for it, last year it was £150 , ouch, lori :-)
