I reckon you caught up with the Lady Yacht Club Weekend in your second photo?
Yes last weekend through to tomorrow lunch is the LYC regatta, Hustlers from Hunters and half deckers from Martham, you might wish to avoid the Lion though.

We have on a number of occasions this year had hire boats try to moor up in vacant berths within the marina. I suppose if you have left it late and no public moorings are available we’re do you go if it’s getting dark.

Ok hope that means either you're back in the wetshed and all is good and you're on your way back up Norf or you've got no wifi!

Umm? I didn't think there was a problem although we've always gone up on the tide. No problem with bridges at high tide unless it's raining! Angle coming back at Bishops bridge is a bit tricky if there are fishermen on the bank
I paddled boarded up there in August, no problems with depth or airdraft I needed 6-2”.

Any woodie owners want to chip in for somewhere to maintain our beloved craft as choices are getting fewer.

When I worked for a large hire yard we had a yacht sink at Great Yarmouth, I got the job of cleaning it out lots of black stinking mud. It was back in hire in just over two weeks so it can be done.

I fitted one to my last boat, never was 100% happy with it as it always seemed to have a mind of its own regardless of what the thermostat was set to. They decided to give me a free upgrade to a digital controller as the basic one was not available and I think this was where the problem lay.

I would take it out followed by a quick trip to Boulter’s, there are a few different types around.

Well we’re made it, picked up swan rapture yesterday for two weeks & moored up at paddy’s lane for the night after a quick trip round Barton to charge the batteries. Today made it as far ludham bridge spying NYx when we left paddy’s lane and followed water rail down part of the Ant, she’s a much bigger boat than I thought but lovely, Richardson’s came out to sort a wobbly toilet seat & showed us how to operate the shower, we tried everything apart from pulling up the **** but we live & learn and we are both now cleaner. Now moored back at paddy’s lane ready for a trip to Richardson’s tomorrow to collect the car to go to a vintage tractor ploughing day at bacon, real friendly crowd as we found out 3 years ago. Not sure sure where Sunday night will find us but planning to cross Brendon on Tuesday, rest of the holiday awaits
Assuming they don’t get stuck after all the rain we have had recently.

Upton Dyke is pretty narrow but I'd say any Broads cruiser is fine navigating down it. I've taken an AF38 and a Crystal 37 down there in recent years and width is certainly no issue.
Where it does get complicated is in turning round outside Eastwood Whelpton (the only place you can turn). I opted not to take the Diamond 43 down there when I had the syndicate share as I knew it would be tough if the fleet were in.
I think if the hirefleet is out, the BA moorings are relatively empty and there isn't a boat moored on the left by the widest point then any Broads cruiser could be turned there, however if everything is full then turning a boat above 40ft isn't going to be the nicest of experiences.
It would be worse if there is no girly button. Neither of the boats I've taken down there recently had one, but they were Aquafibre hulls so obviously handled a lot better than Alphas etc.
We ventured down there a few weeks ago. A hie boat was just coming out and we asked if there was space to which the reply was “Loads”. So down we went EW had most of the yachts in and 4 cruisers moored on the parish staithe with 2 yachts double moored We did manage to turn round but it required a small push with a foot to fend off a bowsprit We had quite an audience I feel the hire boat was “Aving a laugh”.

We don’t go to the White Horse after 3 visits and disappointed meals the chips were dripping in oil and tasted burnt, we visited the Lion but again the food was average. There are much better riverside establishments that now benefit from my hard earned.
I do think the lack of decent staff has been a big problem for lots of venues this year, one particular pub has been advertising for a chef for at least 4 months and the quality is showing as it was one of our favourites.

So i took the dog out for his early morning walk yesterday along a stretch of river that i hadnt walked for years and wow, where was this wonderful place?Just perfect quay heading, room for abour 20 boats, large grass banks, picnic tables, newly planted trees, benches, and even cycle racks. Not one boat moored there, was i dreaming? No it actually existed,so where is this little part of paradise in "The Broads National Park"?Answers on a post card please, i know it wont take you long, but it got me wondering if the broads authority needed to get its priorities right as i walked back to the boat that was moored cheek to jowel with every body else, ot the alternative was to pay £20 for overnight stay.
The reason it was empty probably has something to do with the bridge.

The first one possibly Reedham the second possibly Oulton Broad.

For an inflatable canoe you can launch almost anywhere free of charge. At Wayford you can launch from the footpath that passes under the bridge it’s around an hour up to Dilham. You could also drive to Coltishall and park near the ice cream van and launch from the river bank as it’s all grass paddle up to the lock and back and stop for lunch in the Rising Sun or Kings head. Which ever you choose have fun.

Hi Meantime well I think Griff could sneak off to a Dog-Friendly Pub as Purdey won't say a word while all the others are at Wildwoods
The Ferry is dog friendly, Purdey will make sure he gets back to the boat ok, I wonder if an afternoon nap might be on the cards.

We did the circular route when we were there a few weeks ago, yes it was quite overgrown and had to carry the woofs over a couple of bits.

We had a pump out there in August by a very lovely foreign lady who had just finished at university. Nice to see staff that enjoy their work even if it’s emptying boat toilets.

Is there more? You can’t drop a tantalising hint like that and not tell…
Been out for a sail in the halfdecker and boats coming down river 3 abreast , a group of 10 paddle boards taking up half the width and boats getting frustrated with the slow boats in front decided to overtake only to meet me side on tacking across the river he stopped about a foot away from hitting me in the middle. Lots of fishermen with poles that seem to extend half way across the river and one refused to move his causing the boat to go into full reverse.
A stress free sail it was not.- 1

Most of the trade in July and August is from visiting holidaymakers so they don’t mind if they don’t come back, time will tell in the winter months when all the locals avoid them.

They certainly didn’t sound German and the writing on the canoe wasn’t German.

We just passed 2 x 4 person and 1,x 2 person sculls near Wayford bridge, they seemed to be Swedish talking so maybe on a rowing holiday.
