Anyone know what Horning Pleasurecraft is looking like?

The yard is under water and the access road is flooded but not as bad as ferry road which I was told is over 3 ft.

  2. Lots of flooding in Horning. Boulters are 6 “ under water in the shop. Ferry car park flooded and the spit between Boulters dyke and Ferry boatyard has disappeared.

I've just had my car insurance quote for the next 12 months.

    It's gone up from £375 to £665

Has anyone else had such a hike?

    Does anyone else use Coop?

Has Dr Packman gone into the insurance business?

My renewal had gone up over £250 on last years price. Visited the meerkats and now paying about £20 more with A certain British Dog.

Interestingly the large singing tenor wast around £80 more than the meerkats for the cheapest quote.

  4. We went on the jubilee Padgent with them last year, some owners were very friendly some not so. We felt that the club was more for the sea going jobbies than the older broads based boats. I can give you the contact details of one of the committee members if you want to have a chat with someone.

They are planning a big get together next August at Brundall I think it’s the 75th year anniversary.

Thank you I shall keep your maps in my holiday box.

We moor just before the bridge on the Yacht station side, you can just about see Morrisons from there.  I would not want to stop here over night as there are large deep gaps between the wooden posts ok if you have a mooring board but it needs some very well placed fenders.

Sorry Doug, but I can't agree with that one, having grown up on the Yare.  Anyway, it's not just the south rivers - the problem is all over.  We hear about so many leases of banks for moorings, that the BA have somehow failed to renew.  Barton Turf Staithe being a classic example.  Even the Whitlingham Gravel Pits (which I view with disdain) have been a failure to renew a lease after what must have been a great deal of money invested in the site.

Where do we go from here?  Why do we pay our river tolls?  Just so that we can go out from our marina in Stalham and go round in circles on Barton Broad for the day?  Navigation, by its very definition, means going from place to place.  Navigation means a destination - it means moorings!

Landowners are either closing off their banks or charging exorbitant prices to moor, while the BA are failing to negotiate leases even on their existing moorings, let alone finding new ones.

I am sorry but the equation is simple : no more moorings means no more pleasure cruising in private boats, so no more river tolls paid. It is a slow but steady downward spiral.

I think you have misunderstood the reason why I posted.

I dont do FB but reading previous posts here and elsewhere it does seem that the BA or whoever is in charge at the BA does not want to keep Langley Dyke as a 24 hr mooring.    Has he got a boat moored down there?   Wants it all private?    The Landowner has always been ready to negotiate.    This has been a jewel of the South for a long time and one of the reasons we hired our boat for 2024 was a visit to Langley Dyke.    It has prompted us to cancel our booking.

Langley dyke is a nice mooring but it’s not the be all and end all of the southern broads. Plenty of other nice moorings on the south side to choose from.

Going out will be easy, as there's plenty of daylight and going earlier just improves that. Coming back low water is showing at 7:49am and sun rise at 6:03, so that just about works. Its just that the info I have seen says arrive @ Yarmouth YS 1 1/4hr after low water. Is it OK just to go by the low water times rather than slack water times?

Your limiting factor is your air draft as Grendel has mentioned  at slack water you may not have enough room.  You can transit GY at any time of tide you just need to be more aware of the faster tide and bridge height.

You do hear some real horror stories from Airport parking companies, so I don't blame you for asking.

I hope not we are using valet parking at Gatwick next month. Best leave the Porsche at home and take BMW instead.

Update on the phone signal/temporary mast

HPC met with the company which will do the construction on the temporary mast for O2 last week, on the recreation ground. Unfortunately, this site is not considered viable and O2 will be housing this mast on a farm, just on the offskirts of Horning (plan B).

All of Horning will still be covered by this; the signal strength is not decreaed due to being outside of the center of Horning. Those on various contracts (Vodafone etc.) - those network providers are coming in with O2 on this temporary mast.

The building works will commence shortly, and the mast will be live around 26th September.

Any thing has to be better than it is now. I have to drive to Wroxham to make a phone call.

An E89? Great cars, I drove one recently and was very impressed even with the four pot.

And unlike an MX-5, it's actually suitable for a taller driver.

    Yes it’s a E89 tin top.

I had briefly considered upgrading Zebedee's (2002 Z3) ICE but decided to leave it as original fit.

It has a remote CD autochanger along with a cassette player and the capability of just five pre-set am/fm radio stations - Nostalgic or what?

    Griff

The kit I used is totally reversible. You don’t have to modify or cut anything it’s all just plug and play. It looks totally stock from inside and still allows you to use the OEM functions.

  13. Today was spent updating the Z4 stereo. The current system is quite outdated and doesn’t support DAB.

The small box is a plug and play which requires a connection to the Idrive and one to the head unit. I then plugged the phone in by using the usb to update the settings and hey presto I now have an up to date display that uses Apple car play or Android Auto.

    Before and after pictures.

  14. If anyone is around on Saturday 16th September there is an Illuminated boat parade taking place at Womack water. The boats will leave the staithe at 18-45 and cruise in company to Potter Heigham turning just before the bridge then returning to Womack water around 20-30.

There are viewing areas at both Ludham and Potter Heigham with designated car parking. There will also be a band and food available at both locations.

Please come and support this event and help raise some money for charity.
