  1. An immersion suit is the answer!
  2. https://www.edp24.co.uk/news/health/second-home-warning-in-norfolk-coronavirus-uk-1-6572648 Does this mean boaters too?
  3. A situation from which we can all learn.
  4. We have members who are on their own for various reasons, to them I feel great sympathy. My wife has me and I have her, we might not see each other for hours but that does not equate to loneliness. On top of that all four daughters have phoned, how can I be lonely? Whilst I enjoy solitude I don't know how I'd cope with loneliness.
  5. On a day like today you could always semaphore that white house in the distance. In the meantime I have painted one ceiling and cut the grass on the front lawn. Roll on the fishing season, no boats on the 24hr moorings!
  6. Inevitably there will be one who brings the virus with them. Local to me Southwold is an example, 60% holiday homes now and apparently many are now inhabited, mainly by older folk. Not so much holiday lets, more likely the owners fleeing the city. Should the virus hit Southwold then will the local NHS (Beccles Hospital) be able to cope with the influx over and above the local population?
  7. Perhaps on the other hand people will learn to appreciate each other and maybe themselves. One of my daughters is a musician, all gigs cancelled, arghhh, but on coming home she took over our shed at the end of the garden and has gone into self imposed isolation. She's got her keyboard, violin and kayak plus her simple needs, she's really at ease both with herself and life, despite no work! Mind you, the sun is shining, the water sparkling, not a bad place to isolate!
  8. I note on the EDP24 website that a raft of local events have now been cancelled and that pubs and restaurants are to be closed from tonight. I know that there are those of us who thrive on getting away from it all but equally there are those that don't. I can think of one Broads boatyard proprietor that, during the winter, was hinting at closing. For many of us pubs and attractions are part and parcel of a Broads holiday.
  9. I agree, but an uncontrollable control freak can equal 'dangerous'.
  10. For the life of me I cannot think of any individual at Yare House to whom that might apply, not even in a month of Sundays I can't!! Any ideas anyone?
  11. This is not a good thought but if I were buying a boat right now then I would sit tight. Inevitably there will be some bargains out there, sadly for some businesses and individuals. Not good news but a harsh reality. I suspect that the big boys will survive but growth will be on hold for 2020, unless a real bargain comes along, as I fear that they will.
  12. Are you sure he was Yacht Station staff?
  13. Twenty-two thousand pounds springs to mind, paid for from the DEFRA grant.
  14. In normal circumstances I would agree with you, but these are exceptional times, what with brexit, coronavirus and a national toilet roll shortage. I suspect that the Broads Act would need to go back to Parliament and I do wonder if sufficient Parliamentary time would be made available? I can see the Glover Report being lost and buried.
  15. Is this it, Paul? https://www.broads-authority.gov.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0004/1064506/Broads-Authority-report-12.12.17.pdf
  16. At this moment in time we can only guess and I will suggest that a number of hire boats will not be commissioned this year, and probably a few private ones will also remain laid-up. The consequence being that tolls income will drop for 2020 and subsequently there will be a call next year to make up the shortfall by way of a further increase in tolls. It remains to be seen how the cancellation of Authority meetings, thus the use of executive powers, will effect both the Broads and us as stakeholders.
  17. Regarding good management, I agree. I am not going to suggest that JP is a poor manager because, in reality, he is a very able one. However, the issue is not one of management, it is, among others, a matter of misjudged policy, personal agenda and an excessive level of control. It is a dangerous situation, as more than clearly illustrated by an astute and very aware Mr Ballast.
  18. I note that the BA's response is based on devaluing the writer rather than addressing the facts that he has presented.
  19. Perhaps you find that the truth is hard to swallow. Do what you will to devalue Mr Ballast's research, if you must, but you won't alter reality. Time to take your head out of the sand!! .
  20. As of this morning both Beccles and Oulton Broad Yacht Stations intend to remain open.
  21. There is a sound reason for not divulging the writer's name, trust me. In any case the name would be meaningless to the vast majority of readers. If we go back to James Knight (BA member), he chose to reveal himself and in doing so became the subject of repeated, petulant and vindictive attacks from on high. The gentleman is sure of his facts, and with good reason.
  22. Inevitably I do know Bill Ballast and no, it's no one that we know on this forum. I can assure folk that the letter is extremely well researched and substantiated in some depth, it is well worth taking at its face value. I'm sure that there will be those who will try to devalue it or even attempt to divert attention away from it, suggesting that there are far more important topics to consider at this time but facts are facts. I recommend it to you all. Consider that at this time BA committees and the Authority itself are not convening, due to Corona Virus, that various powers have been delegated to the Executive.
