  1. MM, is that still applicable on pontoon moorings as the whole structure moves up and down with the water level. As the boat will move with the structure I thought it would be a case of one length for all states of tide. Steve
  2. Thanks for the info all. Looking around the pontoon moorings we are on we noticed nearly all the other craft have mooring ropes connected to rings on the berth. These have been spliced and connected to the rings by shackles. Apparently these are left on the moorings while the boats are out and all ready to tie up on the return. Is this common? Seems like a good idea to me Steve
  3. Another 'silly' question, sorry What size mooring ropes would be advisable for our 24ft Norman? Is there a guide to advise on type / thickness of ropes? Steve

  5. Think we will keep the one onboard. It's one of these http://www.thetford-europe.com/product/c200/ After a good clean it came up as good as new. All plumbed in to water system and electric flush to boot Steve
  6. Most of ours will be weekend cruising as well Alan, although we hope to get at least 4 full weeks in next year. That was another reason we chose somerleyton, easy for Beccles, Oulton, Reedham, WRC and even Brundall and Rockland St Mary, one of my fav moorings. North gets far too busy for my liking. We will venture that way during a weeks trip but only for a night or two and then head back to the quiet Steve
  7. Decided to go south Alan that was the only reason. Toilets and water was all we wanted and found the ideal package for us at the moment. Maybe in a year or two we will want to move but for now we want the piece and quiet of the south. Another small factor was the marina on the southern broads knocks about 45mins to an hour off the journey too and from Steve
  8. That was one of the marinas we spoke to Alan and would have gone there had we not decided we preferred the quieter life on the southern rivers. Very happy with our new moorings, all floating pontoons so no worries about different states of tides. No electric at present but apparently it's on the 'to do' list for the marina Good luck in the search. Steve
  9. Morning Strowager, She is fitted with an inboard volvo penta engine. I'm assuming this being a Diesel engine will require the same type of heavy duty battery as a car diesel would. We also have 2 leisure batteries but I was informed, by another boat owner at our mooring so it could be incorrect, that for the BSC the cables from the batteries to the cut off switches and also to the engine need to be the thicker 'car type' leads. Apparently this applies to leisure batteries as well as the engine one. Do you know if this is correct? Steve
  10. Hi all Quick question. The battery leads currently fitted on lady Patricia are fairly thin. I would have thought for marine use they should really have the same thickness cable as you would find on a car and also be tinned to help prevent corrosion. Can anyone confirm please? Steve

  12. Thanks Frank The fridge was in a cupboard neither of us spotted when we looked at the boat and was not on the boat itinary. What a result as we were talking about purchasing one in a conversation on our way up this morning. Steve
  13. Thank you for the messages guys Had a nice little trundle down the river to her new home. Deb blitzed the inside while I sorted a few bits outside. Got a small list of things we want to do but all in all everything is good. Hot water after a 20 minute cruise and located everything we needed to. Bonus of the day was finding the fridge and it is a brand new Waeco compressor type Steve & Deb

  15. A very simple answer. Most people we have met on our holidays have watched LR's (Robin) blogs. Hardly any have actually met him but most know who he is from his entertaining, informative and often funny blogs (the opening a tin episode springs to mind) If I ran or owned a boatyard and wanted to get a message across I would be talking to Robin and asking if he, with his knowledge of putting a video together, would be interested in having a week on one of my boats (FOC) and in return could he make a short video of the perils that can be found on the broads which would then be placed on my website homepage and on YouTube. Obviously wether this would be possible would rest entirely on the fact that Robin would be willing to do it. Both those new to the broads and those that return year after year use YouTube to find out what to expect on their upcoming holiday. Why not use it for some safety tips as well. In the real world you will always get idiots doing stupid things but if such a video saved money for a yard, damage to a boat and potentially the loss of a life then In my eyes it would be worth it.   16. Looks like a PM to you if we need anything would be the order of the day Frank to get relevant web addresses. Little bits and pieces we will purchase online or indeed from local outlets while up at the boat. Any larger, more expensive items we will be shouting out and calling for help from the Guys n Gals on here. We don't mind paying if the items are good quality but I'm sure in the boating world, as with everywhere else, there is some real cheap tat that is sold at over inflated prices. It just the learning to spot these items that may take some time as we get more experienced. Steve & Deb
  17. Picking up the keys and moving lady Patricia to her new home tomorrow, then the fun begins I'm going to be like a kid at Christmas tonight, guess who won't be sleeping much. Lots of emotions running at the moment. A little Apprehension, a few nerves but most of all a lot of excitement Steve & Deb

  20. Hey listen guys, we don't see any of this as greif . This is our very first insight into owning and looking after your own boat. All help, advice and even stern talkings, to telling us we are idiots, is much appreciated. It is going to be a huge learning curve for us but something we are both looking forward to. I will attempt to do whatever I can myself so with advice from the lovely people on here hopefully we will be ok. The idea of changing this and adding that so that she becomes our own so to speak really is exciting. I just have to keep telling myself 'Rome wasn't built in a day'. More to the point Deb will hold the purse strings so she will be constantly reminding me Steve & Deb
  21. Thanks for that info mbird. We have used it on hire craft, plugged in while cruising and then unplugged and turned off inverter when moored up. Would this be ok on a smaller boat do you think? I was looking at a 600w inverter to fit. Steve
  22. They do look very handy pieces of equipment. Will have a look at them while the boat is out of the water this winter. It would seem the ideal time to fit one Steve
