  1. Hi all, We are looking at different headlining for the cabin area on Lady Patricia. The question is should we go for foam backed or plain? What are the advantages / disadvantages of these? We will be replacing the boards that the current lining is on as well. What should we treat the new panels with? Thanks in advance Steve & Deb
  2. Hi Andy, We are planning on running some thin covering strips along the joints so the odd mm here and there can be hidden. We will also have a small wooden pelmet along the sides to cover the curtain rail which will run the entire side length of the saloon. I'm pretty local to Windsor so will be able to save on P&P Can you suggest a good spray adhesive? Will standard 6mm ply be ok or do we need a special 'treated' ply? Sorry for all the questions Labrador, does the self adhesive Velcro not loose its stickiness over time? Steve
  3. Well that was an eye opener Just taken our old cushions to the upholsterers to have new ones made for next year. My oh my foam is expensive these days. 10 cushions and 4 seat backs, looks like beans on toast for the rest of the month Also, can anyone advise a good supplier of vinyl for the ceiling. I will be removing the old one to use as a template. It looks like the stuff on the boat at the moment is glued to 2 to 3mm ply then screwed up. My plan is to cover the ply at home with the vinyl and then transport to boat and fit. Obviously I will have the 'old' ceiling to pre-drill holes for the lights and screw fixings. Would this be the easiest way to do it or have one of you more experienced lovely people got an easier or better solution? Steve
  4. Timbo - what cost for freezing your whatsits off Seen them online for around £600. We don't like the idea of these portable gas heaters, I know many people use them but I'd constantly be worried about CO as they all say 'do not use in confined areas'. Steve
  5. Evening All Looking at getting an eberspacher airtronic D2 12v diesel heating system for Lady Patricia. 1. How easy / hard are they to fit 2. Assuming all goes well how many hours to fit 3. Will this model be up to heating a 24ft boat Thanks in advance Steve & Deb
  6. Hi Ian, When are you going? We have decided to have one more run out and then empty the boat for the winter. We will be up from tomorrow until Sunday, if we can put up with the cold Steve
  7. The one that leaves an extra £100 in your pocket for spending money. As long as it floats and gets you from A to B then that's good enough As long as it has a bed to sleep in, a cooker to boil the kettle and a head to do the other business in then you are sorted. The REAL enjoyment is being on the broads Steve & Deb
  8. All that high tech stuff. Are you sure your on a boat Robin or the starship Enterprise
  9. Welcome Kev Deb and I had princess for a week in May, lovely boat and Richard and Fiona are lovely people. Enjoy the rest of your week Steve & Deb
  10. Hi all, When we were up last weekend one of the other people on a mooring just down from us was winterising his boat and taking everything home, cushions and other soft furnishings. Before they left they put bubble wrap on all of the windows. What is the point of doing this? Has anyone heard of this or even done it and if so did it do any good? Steve
  11. Thank you again for the replies. Ian, we are lifting the boat as she needs antifouling. And we want her to look her best for next season The previous owner had already bought the paint to do it so we have decided to do it this winter, or just before March when she goes back in. Steve
  12. Some surprising 'winners' there
  13. Mark, if you want another boat to keep your cash in feel free to store it on ours, very reasonable storage fees and you'd get approx half back Thanks for the advice on topping up for winter, we never knew that but will certainly do it. Iain, is Goodchilds the boatyard where the Waveney meets the start of Breydon? There was a receipt from them that came with the boat. They did some work on the engine. Alan, Reedham isn't far from us so may check to see if there is anywhere to purchase fuel there. Lady Patricia is being lifted out this winter so everything will be drained down and winterised correctly. I have a man who is going to show me how to do it properly I've been looking to see if you can purchase red diesel anywhere and take it to the boat. I've read somewhere that boatyards charge the same prices as high st garages for red, is this correct? Steve
  14. Very quick question. What is the 'procedure' for buying fuel on the broads. By this i mean 1. Is it self service or is there an attendant? 2. Do most places take cards or is it strictly cash? We've only ever been on hire boats before so have no idea how it all works. Steve & Deb
  15. What a fabulous couple of days we have had. Lovely little cruise to OB and back. A few minor jobs completed while moored in the Saturday afternoon sunshine and then back to the marina early Sunday. Tidied up a few more bits and pieces and then set off on the journey home. While cleaning the windows I managed to pull a wire out of one of the crimp terminals to the windscreen wiper. A walk up to the hardware shop to purchase a crimping tool set and within 5 minutes the wire was reconnected, nothing special there - but, - before said wire was pulled out the wiper blade moved soooooo slowly it thought I needed to replace the motor. Having re connected the terminals with new crimps it works a treat. Result, that's the wiper motor taken off the 'to do' list I've learnt very quickly how connections on boats can cause what appears to be a problem for which a new part needs to be purchased but it is actually down to bad or loose connections. We are absolutely loving the freedom we now have and Lady Patricia behaved impeccably on our first real outing on her Steve & Deb
  16. Ha ha don't say that BR, we've got no heating
  17. All moored up at the yacht station, what a lovely day it is here. Fishtone, we are heading back home tomorrow lunchtime unfortunately as both working Monday. Steve & Deb
  18. Morning, Well that was a more than comfortable night. After a horrendous journey up, more than 5hrs due to the M25, we got here about 11pm. Loaded everything on to Lady P and settled down for the night. BR, we are moored at somerleyton marina. Got a few bits to do onboard this morning but will hopefully be heading for OB about lunch time. Steve & Deb
  19. We will shortly be leaving to make the trip up to spend the weekend on Lady Patricia. It will be our first since buying her and our last of this season. Planning on heading for OB yacht station tomorrow evening and enjoy a curry in the evening. If anyone is about or sees us moored up please feel free to pop over and say hello Steve & Deb
  20. Sorry, just read your OP properly. You did say you found the on an American website. Ignore me Steve
  21. Evening Marina, You could try these. (From USA though) http://gadgetsunlimited.com/lights.htm Steve & Deb
  22. Jim we visited the pub late September. It's one of the Marco Pierre White chain of pubs. I was expecting posh, small portions but was pleasantly surprised when the food was brought out. I went for the sirloin stake and Deb had the chicken Kiev. Both meals were superb and as with most things in life you get what you pay for. We will definately return. We moored on the BA 24hr moorings. As stated the road bridge is right by them but noise was not a issue for us. Definately give it a go if you are in the area. Steve
  23. Thanks Grendel, I will look in to those options Steve
  24. Strowy, is there another option to a centre cleat? The reason i ask is the free boards (I think that is the correct name) on the Norman are quite narrow and I wouldn't want to add a 'trip hazard' if there was another option. Steve
  25. MM I asked one of these questions and the forum members replied with good informative answers. I didn't think my question was silly from my point of view but to someone who has been in or around the boating world for years it may have seemed that way. The point I want to make for any new members that may read this is that I have learned very quickly that the forum members here are a really welcoming and helpful group of guys and gals. Can I just say here a now a HUGE thank you to all who have commented and helped Deb and myself out with answers since we left the 'other lot' and joined NBN. I promise I will never start a question with 'this may be a silly question, but' ever again. Although I will expect to be told that I'm a silly sod or an idiot should my words or actions warrant such a response Steve
