  1. Just been looking at this boat from Richardson’s but I can’t find the air draft anywhere. Does anyone know what it’s likely to be? I’ve looked at info on similar boats but not sure this is the same make and model. I’ve never hired this style of boat before.

It’s a bit like the question we had about Gleaming Light. In October with low tide being at non-cruising hours will I have any problems with Ludham Bridge.

  2. Went for coffee at the Granary at Ranworth Staithe this morning. Very reasonably priced and good quality, two scones and coffees for under £10. Arrived at 10.06. Only a couple of spaces left and mostly hire boats that were there. I couldn’t make out whether they had all just arrived or were overstaying. The rangers were nowhere to be seen.

  3. That must be a real blow Cal to your local community.

B&M were not likely to want the Lowestoft Wilko’s as they opened a store round the corner only a few years ago. I think that was on a site that had previously been BHS.

I do wonder though whether Wilko’s closing will give the local council the chance to finally clear up what is left of the old car park that linked to this building.

  4. I haven’t hired that boat but have hired similar in mid October. We’ve always had high water levels at that time and didn’t go up the Ant because of it. That’s not to say we couldn’t have done if we had been able to time it for low tide but I didn’t want to chance it or be stuck to a timetable for two days just to get under the bridge.

  5. Sad news on Facebook that this restaurant is closing. Hope it’s ok to copy this here as it’s from their public page.

    Dear Guests,

We have been struggling for a year now, because of energy prices, shortage of staff, and the cost of living crisis, like most businesses in the industry. We have been finally struck by an energy bill, which makes keeping the restaurant open impossible.

Our last day of service will be on the 10th of September and will close down the restaurant until further notice from the 11th of September.

Thank you for your support during these hard times we will miss you all.

  6. The annual convoy from Norwich to Pleasurewood Hills and back is tomorrow, Sunday 27th August. You can get all the details from the website if you either want to see it or want to avoid it.

    To quote from their site

One of the region's major events of the summer is our Children's Convoy when we have around 80 trucks plus support vehicles and a police escort taking children with special needs to Pleasurewood Hills for the afternoon and then return through Great Yarmouth in the evening. With over a hundred vehicles in total, the convoy is indeed a spectacle to behold.

  7. Of course Monday and Friday starts also suit the short break market. Prices being what they are it’s how we’ve managed to hire twice a year sometimes and take different boats from different yards. I like that mix. We might do the Thurne, Acle and along to Salhouse on one trip. Then explore the Ant, Fleet Dyke and Ranworth the next time.

  8. I’ve been reading this thread as it’s developed. Personally I think that Clive has got it spot on. Caring about the welfare of your staff and their families is a great thing to do. I’m sure it breeds loyalty and community in itself. I’ve also seen firsthand the effects of shift work covering 24 hours 7 days a week. Some jobs can’t function without that. But where you can make that work life balance you absolutely should.

  9. Good job you spotted that Ian. It’s all too easy to not pay attention with cashless payments. I bought 3 nectarines in Roys a couple of weeks back. The cashier laughed when she realised she had entered 300. 😂
