  1. The annual convoy from Norwich to Pleasurewood Hills and back is tomorrow, Sunday 27th August. You can get all the details from the website if you either want to see it or want to avoid it.

    To quote from their site

One of the region's major events of the summer is our Children's Convoy when we have around 80 trucks plus support vehicles and a police escort taking children with special needs to Pleasurewood Hills for the afternoon and then return through Great Yarmouth in the evening. With over a hundred vehicles in total, the convoy is indeed a spectacle to behold.

  2. Of course Monday and Friday starts also suit the short break market. Prices being what they are it’s how we’ve managed to hire twice a year sometimes and take different boats from different yards. I like that mix. We might do the Thurne, Acle and along to Salhouse on one trip. Then explore the Ant, Fleet Dyke and Ranworth the next time.

  3. I’ve been reading this thread as it’s developed. Personally I think that Clive has got it spot on. Caring about the welfare of your staff and their families is a great thing to do. I’m sure it breeds loyalty and community in itself. I’ve also seen firsthand the effects of shift work covering 24 hours 7 days a week. Some jobs can’t function without that. But where you can make that work life balance you absolutely should.

  4. Good job you spotted that Ian. It’s all too easy to not pay attention with cashless payments. I bought 3 nectarines in Roys a couple of weeks back. The cashier laughed when she realised she had entered 300. 😂

  5. After shopping at Tesco in Sprowston we fancied making the most of a beautiful morning. Popped to Ranworth. Had a very nice scone and coffee at the Granary coffee shop on the Staithe watching the boats coming in.

Had a chance to say hello to Simon(CambridgeCabby), Kate, and Bramble. Lovely to meet you. Hope you have a lovely weekend. 🤗

  6. Very much enjoyed reading your posts here Robin. Sounds wonderfully relaxing. Just how a Broads visit should be. We rarely plan our days now if we’re afloat apart from needing to be in the right place on the last night before heading back to the yard. Familiarity has bred that ability to drift from place to place.

I agree about those folk filming from the riverbank. I haven’t made many of my little videos for a while but it’s a rule of mine not to show that kind of footage. Or to be zoomed in on people. But other vloggers seem to think we’re all fair game whatever we’re doing. And I don’t care for that either.

I'd be interested to know a bit more about Bridge Restaurant at Wroxham. When we were last there in 2021 it was called The Liberty and we enjoyed it. Has it changed much (apart from renaming to the most unimaginative name I could think of)?

I’m not sure why they changed the name unless they thought that Liberty wasn’t the right image in the end. After all it’s not American food and maybe that’s what the name implies. Did it change hands at some point?

I thought they retained Liberty for the upstairs events area. But there’s no indication of that on their website.

  8. Ok, that's 19 recommendations so far ... how long have you got?! :default_rofl:

If you're staying for 7 days and you want breakfast, lunch, and dinner out you need two more ... how about the Fur and Feather at Salhouse and the Staithe and Willow at Horning ...

I'm sure someone will be along with a few more in a minute ... :default_biggrin:

  9. I agree that Richardson’s are the one you can usually trust that the price you pay won’t be discounted. Most of the other yards seem to put offers out.  Although I’m not sure what Horning Pleasure Craft do. But I do see the offers from Barnes, HW, and Ferry Marina regularly on Facebook.

  10. If anyone is in the Hoveton and Wroxham area between the 17th and 20th August, looking for something to occupy their children, then this might be of interest.

The village hall is an easy ten minute walk from the moorings. Guessing this may be subject to the weather conditions though. There have been a number of events cancelled because of wind and rain this summer.
