    Hi Everyone,

thank you all for your contributions, very useful, yes i was aware of the boats at nbs both ex hire, and neither in great condition, we have been very slightly tempted by the aquafibre 37 sedan, on NBS reasonably priced i know, one of them has fairly new engine too, are they any good for broads cruising?, I love the rear deck space, as i am fishing mad, but these boats require modernising inside, and the forward v cabin needs to be fiited out with proper double bed, not sure what this would cost, but would also like canopy over the rear, have seen one with this done looked great, and bow thruster fitted, time i spent whatever that would cost would it be my ideal boat? dont know, but dont want to end up dissapointed.

Think i will just have to take advice from you guys and wait patiently.

    thanks again

    mark.

NBS Sedan 37 & £29,950, is that one of them? Recent Nanni engine, Brown strip along bow? I looked at that last week and agree it needs modernising, the V cabin was very wet and if I recall there isn`t the sunroof fitted on that one either, did you look in the engine bay and see all the water in the bottom? Around 3k for a good canopy as well.

Jury is still out on that one as reckon it could be a nice boat with TLC & £`s.

Just a thought, too late to edit, but I am concerned that she might be a rebuild rather than an original Broom. Not to say that a fire damaged boat, for example, can't be refitted and refitted well but I would want to know that. GRP lends itself to some amazing rebuilds but it begs the question, when does a Broom cease to be a Broom.

Thanks however I`ve been given pointers to tell if it is a Broom fit out and same for the hull with or without the builders plate after all if people can swap a vin plate on a car then surely the builders plate is a doddle unless I`m missing something which wouldn`t be the first time lol.

Have now looked at the original site advertising the boat. I suggested 35k, I'd go in at 30k tops. Judging by the huge amount of exposed screws and shoddy timber work under the soles/decks she is not a Broom unless she's one that's been rebuilt by a yard other than Broom. The aft cabin structure is very box like thus I would want to know who built that and what of. I do like the logic of the layout and the lack of any unnecessary paraphernalia, personally I would be tempted but I would want a professional survey on this one. A great deal of fancy woodwork, which I like, but not what I'd expect of Brooms. I'd proceed with care.

Spoke with somebody who knows a thing or two about her last night, very helpful chap he was. Told me what`s what about her and gave me an idea of what to offer as well. All being good I`ll take a journey soon and see up close for myself.

I'm not saying it isn't a Broom fitout, but it does seem pretty odd. If you were getting a yard who were never cheap to build it then why would you not just have a GRP superstructure? To get them to draw up, project manage and construct a bespoke superstucture in ply would surely have ended up costing as much anyway.

It doesn't feel like a Broom interior to me, although it has clearly been done to a reasonable standard. The windows and the overall design really don't look like normal 'Broom' either though.

A real Broom fitout (Aquafibre or production) should have one of these near to the interior helm position.

According to BOC it was one of the their fit outs and there are a few subtle ways of proving it was a Broom fit out. Forgive me if I don`t share now but I will in time, promise, just ask for time whilst I talk to the seller.

Hi Pumpmedic Does it matter if its a Broom or not, has it been looked after and cherriest, it looks a nice boat But what is the air gap? is it broads compatible you haven't said where you will use it. If the topside is wood beware,  If you like it check the bilges, behind cupboards, by all means get a survey but you will still find issues with any second hand/preowned boat.John

    HI,

All I want is a nice boat of almost any manufacture, however if the seller is making a claim in effort to get a higher price then I need info to negotiate the price towards what I might pay for it. It is broads compatible as far as I am aware  yes and do I need to say where I might use it in this post I think not however I have taken your points onboard.

All Broom Skippers seem to be sold as Broom Skippers no matter who by or where they were fitted out.... not even as Aquafibre Skippers!

As for the boat in question on here, My first question would be what are the bulkheads made of? You can always tell the quality of a build by the material behind the veneers or formica's. There are a lot of chipboard bulkheads out there!

A well maintained plywood top will be better than a poor condition fibreglass one by the way.

Wouldn`t expect a Broom fit out to use chipboard or am I being naive?

Interesting what you say about a well maintained plywood top, I was just searching 4mm and 6mm plate. :default_biggrin:

If it is a one off, you should be aware it will have a more limited appeal in the marketplace - it may also be a slightly unusual construction all of which will affect resale value.

But whatever you do, do not think having a proper survey is a waste of money - its for your own peace of mind and quite literally your insurance.

Thanks for all replies much appreciated and a proper survey will/ would of been done as my head rules my heart lol.

Anybody want to take a guess at the asking price based on 1982 Broom, thorneycraft 2.5 engine, bsc march 2020, strong bank of batteries, hot & cold pumped water, meaco dehumidifier, inverter, vetus 1.5kw thruster, 4 burner gas cooker, full size 12v or 240v fridge, all singing bells & all microwave, electronic safe, trumatic warm air system, 240v/ 12v lights, usb sockets. Looks like solid wood fit out everywhere and a large folder of receipts / paperwork.

The hull certainly looks like a Broom 37 hull. But it's probably a custom top as suggested. Was the Hulls sold off as just Hulls?

Don't forget the BOC is only for "True Blood" Brooms, lol. Hopefully you get an answer, If not I can try and stick on the owners facebook group and see if anyone can shed more info although I suspect no more than advised already :)

lol, read about the BOC and being "True Blood" from another thread on here. I`ve sent them a few photo`s and fully expect a "Nay" in response tbh.

Might take you up on the facebook offer.

By very definition, she can't be a Broom unless they built her. If the builder was sold a full or partial set of mouldings for fitting out, then it's an Aquafibre.

A lot of stuff gets listed by brokers as 'Broom' because a) they don't know any better and b) it sounds good.

The hull does look like it could be Aquafibre, certainly, and I'd agree that the superstructure looks to be DIY so it'd need to be very carefully surveyed.

You fancy doing the survey? The more I look the more I like her for the money being asked.

Cannot see what she`s called or any reg number. If you know any of them, have a look  at the website " the boat index" that may give some indication.

    paul

Well according to that site she is a Broom built in 1982 however where as the site say`s 30 x 10ft the owner claims 37 x 12, at least the 2.5 engine matches.
