  1. Interesting pics, thanks for posting As a kid, when I lived in martham ,I guess early eighties, my dad worked for Robin marine as a radar tech, I recall being taken on board one of the tug boats one day and getting spoilt rotten with Coca-Cola and chocolate etc. Later on,before we moved to the midlands,my mum worked for Hemple marine paints, on another occasion,we had an exciting day planned ,going out to sea on a friend of my dads boat, we hadn’t traveled more that 100 metres from its berth on Gorlston side of the river, when one of the outdrives hit a log or something in the river, ending that day trip.
  2. You’re certainly making better progress than me, my list of jobs,I’d easily have time for hasn’t had many crossed off feel free to swing by st ives and lend a hand im spending too much time talking to myself and procrastinating.
  3. This is the one I’d like but the lead time is ridiculous.
  4. Hi all, can anyone point me in the direction of a multiple bilge pump switch panel. ideally 3x switches. Bluesea do one but it’s a new product and I’ve been quoted 20 weeks for supply , thanks in advance. mike
  5. Got a bit more done over the last few weekends, new bulkheads to tidy things up,some plinths to run cables on. new 220v cabling run in. existing “factory “ wiring tidied up and secured
  6. Something else to consider, id get all of the items in the photos blast cleaned,it’s far easier to see what’s going on with no rust/paint etc
  7. I’m certainly no expert but stainless steel ,I guess,is going to be a harder material than the bronze bracket and the steel rudder, the thrust washer/bearing is supposed to be sacrificial IYSWIM. I’d go with Griffs suggestion.
  8. Seems a bit over the top for a few sockets and an immersion heater, And it’s in the way. might need a rethink here
  9. Had a few hours at the boat today, roughed out the support for the battery box.
  10. Reading some of the posts from Norfolk,I see some of you are outnabout. even if my boat was in the water,I’d be going nowhere . upstream, there’s no way I’d get under st ives bridge, downstream, well the photos say it all, on the left side of the lock entrance, those guard rails are normally above the cabin roof. and the black and white pilings for the pontoon have about 10 ft above the water. up stream lock gates are chained and padlocked fully open
  11. Last visit between Christmas and new year, ripping out old wiring and prepping for new install.
  12. Thanks Vaughan, that all makes sense,I’ll take a better look at it all later.
  13. I’m thinking this is the hall sensor for the tachometer, again I need to trace more wires and design a new wiring diagram and harness.
  14. I’ve no idea what this did, was bolted on but not connected, there were however two bare wires hanging nearby.
  15. The main loom connectors were so corroded I couldn’t separate them, more drastic measures needed
  16. There’s a fair amount of redundant wiring so I’ll need to dissect the harness and work out what’s going on,so if anyone has a wiring diagram for a low line 4108 that would be great. I’ve got my head around most of it but I’m stumped at this,so I’m missing the point somewhere. the left cable goes to the main earth point on the starter motor body. the right hand goes to redundant taped up wiring which would have been to the alternator, why fuse the alternator earth? given that it’s bolted to the engine. seems odd as it only fuse I’ve found in the whole load/supply on the boat before it reaches the fuse board.
  17. Todays job, removing obsolete wiring, probably good timing as the insulation was really brittle and cracked in loads of places. not good when it was running through uninsulated P clips bolted to the engine.
  18. Stirling split charge diode, I’ve also got a 3way Electrolux fridge, was working perfectly on 240 v prior to removal. not tested on gas or 12 v, pm if of interest and I can get some pics of the fridge in the new year.. collect Melton Mowbray,or st ives cambs.
  19. I think the interesting thing I’ve learned so far, and I’m sure a lot of you guys will be in the same “boat”( ) over the years things have changed with a 40 year old boat. previous owners fit/remove/add. my Broom has at least 3x fuse boxes/distribution points and two(engine, domestic )isolators. plus a few bits and bobs added to the battery terminals, which,I’m not 100% sure where they go yet. to my point. between the batteries, isolators and the fuse boxes there are NO fuses. yes,all of the systems are fused, either at the distribution point or the appliance, And I guess ,a short would only burn out a smallish gauge wire, but some of the wires run next to all sorts of stuff. the big“ but” some of these unfused cables,to the isolators, alternator, etc can carry 200 amps + before they would burn out. hmmmmm food for thought
  20. My work in progress so far, I need to order terminal insulators, wire and connectors so this will stall till new year.
  21. Then I ran out of time, hope to get down between Christmas and new year for more prep.
