  1. It probably had some vinyl fitted from new ,the glue was nasty. looking better after an hour with a heat gun and scraper
  2. I spent this weekend getting things sorted for the boat being lifted ashore in a fortnight, the aft cabin has a carpet fitted, which I removed for winter. the cabin floor was a bit grim so that was also removed for some tlc at home.
  3. Currently mounted on my workshop wall for safe keeping. issued to fishermen at a subsidised price of 5 shillings but costing the royal national lifeboat institution 11shillings 6. made from 1882,this example dates from 1890
  4. Question for the knowledgeable. my broom 30 is a very dry boat, now I’ve sorted a few issues like the hot water tank pressure valve discharging into the rear bilge etc. it has one auto sensing pump in the rear bilge under the stern tube. there is also what looks to be a pipe built into the boat from the front cabin bilge which joins the front and rear bilges. there is another auto sensing pump fitted and plumbed in ,in the engine/centre bilge, however this is not wired in at present. im planning to address wiring the pump in this winter. I was pondering whether to fit a 3rd pump in the front bilge, belt and braces or overkill on a very dry boat? interested in opinions.
  5. I agree with the above, I’ve two weekends till the boat gets lifted, then it will be end of march before it goes back in the water. I’ve got lots of jobs to do,and 20 weeks will fly by , I’ll hazard a guess most working weekends,I’ll be on my own though as wifey won’t do ladders with a dog.
  6. Now I’ve finished off restoring “tango” I thought it would be fun to actually use it so hopefully (weather permitting) I’ll take it down to the RGO next weekend and the following weekend for our last two trips of the season as the big boat is being lifted onto hard standing over winter to allow me to do some maintenance and planned improvements. any advice from more experienced crews welcomed.
  7. Thanks, im very pleased with it and enjoyed doing it. the next project awaits.
  8. Given the name and content of the forum, I would hazard a guess that we all enjoy inland/coastal cruising. what would be your dream destination for cruising? inland, estuary, lake or coastal. or even proper offshore. money no object, and maybe what boat would you chose.
  9. Also included, fuel tank with new hose/primer bulb
  10. Got the original warranty and service book, and user manual
  11. It has a bit of light corrosion from storage in a lock up, but it started 2nd or 3rd pull after service and ran lovely. it was in storage for many years but has obviously not had much use as it’s spotless under the cowl(ihavnt cleaned under there that’s how it was.
  12. Yay,got the transom bracket back, the aforementioned outboard
  13. I do think though, the narrow boat owners must have a laugh at our expense when waiting to lock, no mate, after you.!
  14. I’m starting to think myself lucky I’m on the Ouse, most of the boats are privately owned, and, up to now the hire boats have been well skippered. tho last week we were lucky enough to watch a crew on a hire boat from a safe distance and it was absolutely hilarious. but that’s a different story. the day boats in the locks, don’t get me started.
  15. If you are interested but have your own outboard,I’m happy to sell the motor separately and knock a few hundred off the price
  16. For sale, my Dabbler ,3.2 metre or 10ft 6” in old money. marketed back in the day as unsinkable apparently. anyway, I’ve done a full refurb on it, topsides repainted with international yacht enamel. all of the deck hardware is stainless, the fenders all brand new. the seats and front locker are sapele hardwood and robbins elite ply, again with stainless screws throughout. the rowlocks/cleats are bespoke in stainless. included but no photos as yet as I’m waiting for the transom bracket coming back from powder coat,is a 5hp Yamaha outboard. I’ve given it a full service ,and fitted a new cooling pump impeller. I’ll add some pics once fitted. also included is a bespoke launching trolley which it’s currently sitting on, and a road trailer. a pair or oars are also in the package. oh and an anchor. can be viewed at Melton Mowbray, or by prior arrangement st ives ,Cambridgeshire ( where a river test would also be possible) i think that’s covered it,any questions just ask. price is £2k some photos
  17. 10 days of cruising on my broom30 on theGRO perkins 4108 ,@50 litres. ive never gone over my fuel deposit on the Broads, the Shannon or the Caledonian. hope the OP gets this sorted out
  18. Hi all, quick question , my broom 30;currently has 2x leisure batteries 1x engine. these are mounted into the generic plastic boxes ,kinda wherever there was room. it looks untidy . I have room in front of the engine where I guess the original hot water tank was fitted. over winter I’d like to fabricate a sturdy wooden box and lid to house the batteries probably increasing the number to 3 leisure, as I’m planning to also fit a second fridge.., is a wooden box ok for the BSS as the examination is due in January. TIA, mike
