  1. Whilst on this subject, have any of you got a recommendation for charge control upgrades? if my ammeter is telling the truth,10 amps is not a huge charge rate for batteries that have been running lights ,heater , fridge etc for 12 hrs. given the alternator is 50amps +, poss 110 amps if Vaughan is correct
  2. Thanks for the replies, As I said,it’s all working fine, but I’m going to upgrade anyway, as things stand if there was any issues with the wiring it would just be a pain to gain access and effect a fix , I guess this is normal for a boat of this age as previous owners upgrade and modify ,in my experience and from what I’ve seen up to now with the boat there are quite a few “bodges” and a fair amount of redundant wiring which I will remove. Untidy wiring messes with my head.
  3. Todays jobs, drain down hw and cw tanks, engine coolant checked, topped up. flushed antifreeze through raw water system. Fingers crossed as I can’t do much more. forecast is for freezing temps next week, but I’m down at the boat most weekends and have the heater running full blast.
  4. I think the most important thing is to go and get a fitting. buying online is not ideal.we too have a Norfolk terrier. I’ve got 3 jackets that are all too big I thing the brand is relatively unimportant, the fit IS. they have a small head in relation to there chest size so can easily slip out of a poor fitting harness or jacket.
  5. When I start the engine after a full load night away (fridge, lights, heater, toilet) the charge light stays lit till I rev the engine to @ 1500rpm then it extinguishes and the ammeter immediately flicks up to @25 amps. this suggests there is an electronic device controlling the alternator.(see above post) after a while it settles at prob 8/10 amps. im guessing the alternator is a minimum of 50 amps so any recommendations of an upgrade is welcome on the control side of things.
  6. Also mounted on a plate bolted to the engine in the same area. a black box with CAV on it,glow plug relay?? a solenoid, starter?? another relay and a black box with alternator controller.
  7. Any info on the above is welcomed. the alternator looks to have been replaced. poor photo, I just can’t get near it.
  8. One of my projects this year is to upgrade the battery bank, and look at the charging system on the boat. everything has worked fine through the summer once I’d replaced the domestic batteries. 5 day cruising no problem with no shore power. but,,,,,, the batteries are stuck in any gap. the wiring is a mess. so a centralised bank of batteries and simplified wiring is the order of the day. ill be upgrading to 3 domestic 1 starter. all of the wiring is getting on a bit so I’ll rewire all of the supply side of things. all battery +ve side of things is currently brown. this In itself does my swede as in my world brown is earth/return. anyways. I couldn’t get any pics as the light was fading, and all the electrics associated to the charging/engine are virtually inaccessible, which, again is a big issue for me. question #1 im guessing this is the rectifier/diode
  9. I know you cant see under the floor but no harm in giving things a freshen up while the floor is up. before and after
  10. Pm me your phone number,I’ll text you when I’m going to work on the boat.
  11. Pics of the manual loo let me know if it’s of use to you
  12. Ha! skived off work early, second lifting handle fitted 1st coat of varnish.
  13. Manual pump toilet,to be removed in the next week or so. electric vacuum cassette toilet.(complete set up) 2.5 kg anchor for a small dinghy or such. seems a shame for these to go in landfill if someone could use them. collect Melton Mowbray or st Ives,Cambridgeshire. post up or PM if any of these are of interest and I’ll get some photos.
  14. Although these floor boards are fixed down with nothing of interest under them, they are a snug fit so I’ll fit a pair of lifting handles so I don’t have to resort to prizing them up with a lever. one down
  15. I finished off laminating the boards,3x coats of Danboline paint.
  16. If I’m understanding this correctly, the hot water is still heated from the engine, but the tank has a double skin instead of coils ,thus the whole tank is surrounded by engine heated water
  17. That’s the two main boards laminated, one smaller one to do,then I can paint and varnish
  18. What have you got planned? I’ll start, remove gearbox and replace engine crankshaft seal, I was planning to do this straight away after buying the broom but delayed so we could spend more time cruising . fit electric toilet in fwd heads, currently has manual pump using river water,( can get a bit smelly) refinish all flooring. fit additional fridge(more beer) relocate batteries from plastic boxes into centralised bank. antifoul, currently looks like it’s had coat after coat without a proper sand back. deep clean ,bilges etc refit the new compressor fridge and trim up properly as I kinda chucked it in the hole when I removed the 3 way one removed earlier in the summer. some cosmetics, powder coat a few bits, rechrome anchor roller and broom badges , Over to you
  19. I was pondering whether to just varnish the deck boards but there’s a few too many screw holes and damage from previous keepers prizing the boards up,so I’ll laminate these the same as the saloon as I still have some robbins elite 4mm sapele ply,I’ve enough to do the forward cabin as well
