  1. I found this from 2008 about Stanley Arthur,,,, but unfortunatly thats all I could find apart from a Bewilderwood advert Bewilderwood do have the original "Stanley Arthur". It is now painted purple. "Stanley Arthur II" is now owned by Ferry Marina following the sale to him by Woods Dyke Boatyard. We built all the ferries at Woods Dyke. "Stanley Arthur" was my husband's late father Stanley Arthur Facey. Hope this clears up the mystery. Regards Frank,,,,
  2. I'm using the Log 40 and have had no problems getting any of the stations anywhere, the only place we had intermitant signals was at Wroxham the other side of the Railway bridge, but it was bucketing down and very windy at the time, Mine mounts on a 3 foot pole mounted on the roof of my Safari and the cable from the aerial runs directly to the TV so I have to feed the cable throught a gap in the sliding roof, I did run it Via one of those waterproof boxes but couldn't get any signal at all once I changed it to direct everything worked fine, as some of you may know the Log 40 is long 42inches long in fact so I've moved the fixing bracket to the middle of the aerial with no loss in signal or quality, I tuned my TV in while at my mooring in B/Edge all the channels came up in the right order and I havn't had to retune it since, And if your interested we buy a mag called Total TV Guide, Price: £1.00 On sale: Tuesdays gives you all the Freeview channels and save a lot of swearing,, Regards Frank,,,,,
  3. Setfair! try this from Aldi, I believe a few forumites use these so they must be pretty good,, http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/sp ... _24551.htm Regards Frank,,,,,
  4. Clive! your boats have come a long way since then, and I'm glad to see you got rid of that hat,,, Regards Frank,,,

This is supposed to be what it originaly looked like in 1327 Baz but I can't find anything further back, the mill itself was built much later sometime in the 18th century,,, some good info here Baz,,,, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Benet's_Abbey Regards Frank,,,,

Baz! it looks really nice with all that Scaffolding around it now, looking at it I think it's now closed to the public as there are notices saying no entry, hopefully they are just restoring it,,, Regards Frank,,, PS, found this for you Baz,, http://www.norfolkmills.co.uk/Windmills ... inage.html
  7. Broadsedge at Stalham for me everytime, they have leccie and showers, nice tidy sitting out areas with benches, most moorings are on pontoons, your not far from Tescos for stocking up on food or Petrol if it's a Petrol engine, best of all they are a nice friendly bunch there ,,,, Regards Frank,,,
  8. Ah Ha! now you know why I call mine a **** Nav Regards Frank,,, Ps, I call it something close to Twit but got edited,
  9. Mmmm! just read something about that in the Broads paper, £10 return for most hire boats and £10 each way for private, Regards Frank,,,
  10. Peli 0450 Mobile Tool Chest Internal Dimensions:L522xW279xD321 Was £665.52Now £434.69 Ex VAT Thats it I'll stick with my old Apple crate and cheap tools for the boat! OK! I lied I actually keep my tools in one of those plastic boxes with a lid and I never buy cheap tools unless it's for a one off use, I also save all those silica gel bags (I get them free from my local funiture store) and put then in my tools box, so far none have ever gone rusty, I love tools and Gadgets but unless like Antares it was for trade use I can't see any use for it on a boat,, When it comes to home use I always buy the best tools, but for on the boat I go mid range, I learnt the hard way about having expensive tools when working on site, turn your back and they got nicked, I used to use expensive cordless tools on site, but found some cheap ones in Lidl's made by Parkside, 18v drill/driver was around £39 and the spare battery's £10 and so far it has outlasted all the other drills I've had, the only one that came close was my Milwaukee but at over £250 a go I know what tools I'll buy in future,,, Regards Frank,,
  11. Thanks folks! I normally check everything but this time I totally forgot about the header tank, if it is an airlock and I remember correctly, one way to cure it is to leave the cap off and run the engine up to tempreture and that circulates the airlock out, a little trick I learnt when I used to fit rads,,, at this point I'll add if you don't know what your doing DON'T EVEN try this as you can get a nasty scold if it blows back, of course it may just need topping up, but I think i'll need to keep an eye on it in case I have a leak somewhere,,, Regards Frank,,,,
  12. I should have also said that when I picked the boat up a few weeks back the water got really hot in under an hour,,,, Regards Frank,,,,,
  13. I have a problem with my Calorifier in that it dosn't heat up that much, I don't have an immersion fitted, just the bog standard set up, the temp gauge shows 80deg normally but the water only gets hand warm, anyone got a clue why??? the only thing I can think of is the header tank needs topping up or it has an airlock but the trouble is I can't remember even if it has a header tank fitted, I just need a few clues as to what to check,, Regards Frank,,,,
  14. John! got this reply back,,,,, Hello Frank. Although the Log40 does give a bit more signal than a DM Log, the length of it is one of the reasons we actually recommend the latter over the former for boats and caravans. That plus the fact it`s more easily fixed when it gets bent, which it will do regularly if used as a touring aerial. I wouldn`t advise moving the bracket to the middle of the aerial, it could significantly compromise its performance. Theoretically you could use a plastic cradle in the middle of the aerial as that`s non conducting, though you`d have to make one up yourself ! Alternatively, if you`ve still got the box and the aerial is in as new condition we`re prepared to swap it for you (for a DM Log, length 3ft 6ins), though you`ll have to pay carriage each way obviously ! http://www.aerialsandtv.com/atvschoiceo ... Dimensions Regards Justin Smith
  15. And it's even better when I let the wife loose and she gets 1k off the asking price, she did it with this one (Crackers) and with Dragonfly she got nearly 2k off the asking price, I'd have been happy to pay full price for both of them, for me even a bad day on a boat is a good one,,, Regards Frank,,,
  16. John! I've just mailed him and explained what I want to do and why, as soon as I get a reply I'll post it here,, Regards Frank,,,
  17. Everytime I rebuild/refurbish one of my boats, I leave the name Mowjo, date and year, plus weird thing I do that I don't know where it came from, I take a coin of that year drill a hole in it and fix it alongside my name and date, I'm sure I read something about leaving a coin years ago but I can't remember if it was for boats or buildings,, Regards Frank,,,,
  18. John! just been looking at it and the end fixing bracket forms part of the circuit, as the bracket is pop rivited my idea is to drill the rivets out and move it more central. the gap between the two arms is 10mm so I'll need to find a 10mm spacer for the end where the bracket was, 10 minutes to do the job! 3 days to find my pop riviter,,, Regards Frank,,,,
  19. Setfair! I just measured it and it's 52in long in total, which looks a lot longer than Johns unless it's the Angle of the piccie for once in my life I can say mines bigger than yours,, I think the DM log periodic comes in two sizes, it's odd because the site recommends the log periodic for boats and caravans but the email I got back from him recommended the the Log 40, and I specifically told him it was for a boat and I travel all over the Northern Broads, It will be a few weeks before I get it up and running and I want to move the mounting point more central on the aerial, I just think 52 inches of aerial in front of the original mounting point will put to much strain on the bracket, pole and mounting point, so I have to find a different bracket for it,, Regards Frank,,,
  20. Neil I'm pretty sure they have started the demo or groundworks on those because the diggers were working there the other day, I can't rememberwhere I heard it but it was in the last week or two, I was told it was going to be a luxury Flat complex, Also I just got the Reg Docs back and it has the previous owners address on, so i'm going to write to him and see if he can tell me the history since he owned it and what he had done in the way of work, I know he comes from Durham and is retired which could explain why the boats in such good condition and dosn't look like it's had a lot of use, also I want to know about the Shiney Engine that looks like it just came off the shelf, Regards Frank,,,
  21. Well! the new aerial arrived today all I can say at this point is I'm glad i have a bit forward locker, it must be 4ft 6in long, I've had a few aerials in the past but this is by far the best made one so far, just need to find out if it works, looking at it I think I should be able to pick up the Mir space station,, Regards Frank,,,
  22. Just checked and Crackers was first known as Lady Lorna and owned by L.L. Cruisers in 1977, in 1998 it became Goya Girl 1 and was owned by Summercraft who sold it to a private buyer in 2001, then sold again around 2006/8 to the person we bought it from, looking at the boat is has been very well looked after, and I have a idea that it has had a recent new/recon engine as it is spotless, all the pipework, cableing, filters pumps all look like they have just come off the shelf, I'm going to try and find out more about the boat it's just knowing where to start,,,, Neil! that looks a nice tidy little boat, and if we had seen that first I think we may have gone for it, but now having Crackers and looking at that one I don't like the layout, nothing wrong with it but it dosn't work for me,,, Regards Frank,,,
  23. I use a Uni-T UT58A Digital Multimeter but this problem had me baffled, I tested continutity, voltage, resistance you name it I checked, one minute I had power and the pump wouldn't work then it would show no power, I split the circuits down and tested each one, it showed power going into the chocolate box for the pump but none coming out to the pump, so I did away with the connector and used heat shrink crimp fittings, even when it was showing power going in and out the pump wouldn't work so I'd re-check everything and then it would show no power going into the pump or at the switch, then when I checked the fuse it didn't give me a circuit, I changed it for a good fuse and it still showed no power, on the verge of giving up I put the good fuse back because it was the bilge pump one, put the broken fuse back and the pump suddenly started working, next time I'm at the boat I'm going to take a look at the fuseboard and check the cables and re-wire the fuses, I think there may be a loose, corroded or broken cable, my guess is that the cable has a break in where it goes to the fuseboard because thinking about it the problem didn't start untill the day warmed up, making me think that as the warmth expanded the cable the break opened and broke the circuit then as it cooled it gave a circuit, the part I can't work out is how the fuse tested as blown but was ok when I put it back, and why even when it showed power the pump didn't work, I've completely re-wired 4 boats now so I'm no novice, I even use tinned cables of the right sizes for the job, and put everything on it's own fuse but I've come across this problem before,, all very odd, I'll put the hairdryer on the cables at the fusebox to warm them up, and if my break theory is right i'll find a break in the cable near the fuseboard,, Regards Frank,,,,
  24. We went to the boat today with the intention of replacing two Duff switches, first one took me 30 seconds onto No2 the toilet pump switch, change the switch, try it and nothing, get the tester out and plenty of power, head scratch and a swear, I start tracing the cable back find the pump test and find power at the pump, big swear as I start think pumps caput need new one, Pump looks new and it worked the day before, I re-test the switch this time no power, Same at the pump connections, the connections look at bit corroded so I decided to change them making a note of the connections re-cut the cables and test, got power, check switch, no power, by now I'm making up swearwords and if your confused reading this imagine how I felt trying to work it out, Ok ruled most things out by now but gained a few new swearwords, I decide there must be a break in the cable somewhere or a dodgy connection, just done the pump and the switch so I know they are good, re-check pump and power again, Ok Frank! time to walk away have a cuppa and re-group, Right one last check, this time power at the switch and pump, but pump not working so pump must be busted,, I stick the tester on the pump connections to make sure the power is off even though I turned the isolator off, take the pump of stick the leads on the battery, pump works fine, thats it the nothing for it but to re-wire the whole thing, Into the bow cupboard find the fuse for the pump take it out, weird fuses using fuse wire and not glass or car fuses, Now I have no idea why but I decide to test the fuse, put circuit tester on and no circuit meaning fuse has blown, Oh great I just spent four hours trying to find the problem and it's the fuse, as I didn't have any fuse wire I put another fuse from a different pump after testing it, go to test switch, nothing, nothing at the pump either, if swearing was an event at the Olympics I'd win Gold, put the borrowed fuse back and the blown one, Right only thing left is rewire from the fuse box to the Pump, off to Stalham for some cable and fusewire, I get back to the boat and think I'll put the switch faceplate back first, as I'm doing it I caught the switch and the Bloody pump burst into life, impossible as the fuse is blown, I take the fuse out and I get a circuit, check the borrowed one in case I put the wrong one back, nope it's fine, I check everything again 10 times and everything works fine, I spent 5 hours trying to find a problem that the Electric Gremlin sent to test me, Everything worked after I played with the fuses so I can only think it was a dirty contact, but why I was getting power intermitantly I don't know, the whole thing is a mystery to me,,, Regards Frank,,,
  25. No Jonny! this must be a new one in, looks a nice tidy boat thought,, Regards Frank,,,,
