  1. If I were in the market for an ideal, trailerable boat for the Broads then this one would be high on my list, she ticks all the boxes for me.

May well have had the broads at the back of his mind Peter, designed by Andrew Wolsteholme, who, locally based has designed a host of broads yachts and broads and offshore motor boats.

  2. Do a search and type in crossing Breydon in the 70's nearly all the pics show Breydon at High Tide as do most of the pics I can find on Carols Broadland memories. Just out of interest why do you think its more dangerous to pass through a bridge on an ebb tide than on a flood tide and is either any more dangerous than passing through Reedham when the tides banging through? Also why do we appear to have more incidents now than in the 70's?

    Dave

when I was working on a hire fleet back in the 70's and 80's there were lots of boats running aground on Breydon. In one week we had two aground out of a fleet of twelve boats. I know for sure they had both been warned of the hazard, because I had given them their trial run and part of my information was about the crossing of Breydon, tides, etc.

  3. Don't forget phones aren't phones these days. they are mini tablets and fine for texting. If you want a phone for making calls you are better off getting a basic Tesco, or such like £9.99, pay as you go phone to use for just this problem. invariably they will have a bigger internal antenna for better reception, just like Dave said with the old Nokia brick.

  4. II agree with your comments Robin about blogs on mooring etc, but if you put the slant of 'this is the way I do it' then it does give them impression that it might not be the correct way. But what is the correct way? In 47 years of handling boats on the broads I can only say that each situation can be different as you well know. Do your blog trying to take on board all circumstances.

  5. Martham Development sell petrol from the pump. Have obtained it from Maycraft in the past, out of cans. There a garage in the centre of Ludham, and one a short stroll from Wayford bridge. There is a garage at Sutton on the way to the Harnser. Also if you want to go to Coltishall you can moor near Caen Medow in Wroxham and walk up to Roy's garage.

  6. Like Potter, the bridge is protected. In Wroxhams case the only way to make it viable for modern day traffic was to put a structure over the existing bridge. With Potter Heigham Mr Beeching solved the problem by closing the railway, allowing the bypass and new road bridge to be built.

If the Wroxham bypass had not been blocked with court proceedings by certain people from the Avenues, by the time it eventually got the go ahead, the government money had gone elsewhere.

I believe it was planned that when the bypass had gone through, the bridge would have been restored to original, similar but slightly wider than Potter, traffic light controlled. I am led to believe that they still have the original bricks and cappings stored somewhere from when they were removed to put over the original Bailey bridge.
