  1. my boat is fitted with a 1.5 bmc engine and hydraulic drive all fitted in the stern. my problem is noise, i bought this type of setup so i would have quiet peaceful cruising but alas!!!!! the transmission gives off a high pitched whine, not noticeable on tickover but the higher the revs the louder the whine. definately not the engine, but in my amateur opinion i would say it is the hydraulic pump or drive, but definately transmission. the performance is not affected in forward or reverse it is just this awful whine any advice or ideas would be appreciated alan
  2. yes, what about the ant. between how hill and irstead alan
  3. very nice brian! and you could do a lot worse than a shetland, it was said earlier, a very strong and stable boat, and the black prince, well, what better. alan
  4. there is a lovely little site at UPTON next to the boatyard, but this may well be too far out for where you want to be alan
  5. yes jonny, kingfisher is there and also another 38 called lazy bones. buy there is definately two 44 's in richardsons in private use alan
  6. hi jonny if i remember right there are 2 maybe 3 in private hands moored in richardsons yard also 1 moored in herbert woods yard, just to the left as you go in, and as you point out 1 at horning. alan
  7. hi jonny any scrap yard will take your old battery but i doubt if you will get much for it alan
  8. yes gordon, i have also used brian taylor, he has done a canopy and also a full set of curtains for my last boat. good job, and reasonable price, give him a ring barry. alan
  9. Lots and Lots of wind took 44 minutes to sail from The ferry upriver to the last windpump before cantley and back to the Ferry. lot's and lot's of wind is 44 minutes good going for a sailie, it seems a long time to me. still i am a stinkie. alan
  10. barry ! do you still have the bounty, if so, a pal of mine is just about to start one at wayford. there is quite a bit stripped out at the moment so if you want a peek we will be down at the weekend and you can come onboard. it may give you some info. send me a pm and i will give you my mobile no and a rough time if it is any good. alan
  11. barry three years ago i installed a brand new BELLING G717 lpg cooker on my last boat full size, four rings grill and oven, including vat it was £186. now that was in northern england. it is the only model belling do in lpg, and it was exactly what we needed. last year we had the bss done and it was no problem. alan
  12. third mate !!! just like my wife, has to have the last word. alan
  13. well yes !!!! third mate, you really did rant. i don't take offence at your opinion, and every one is entitled, and in fairness i do agree with you a little. as you have probably guessed i have a bounty bath tub which i bought for comfort, space and loads of storage. i am now retired and will be spending more and more time onboard, i therefore need the space to turnaround in comfort. i don't know about being under powered as anyone on the ant on change-over day will realise when they see all the new starters coming down i, like you third mate love the traditional type boats but at my age this bath tub suits me fine i will say, i sold a broom skipper in order to buy this boat, and it was lovely, but lacked 100% COMFORT. no offence taken mate alan
  14. yes !!! for looks i have got to go with the af32 and the af37 but i do like the centre cockpit alpha 32 and35 for layout and plenty of room, access under the bridges and an all round cracking boat alan
  15. thanks keith, just what i wanted to hear !!! : : just joking! BL***DY HELL, my boat alan
  16. bl***dy hell, this is becoming scarey !!! if it's 6ft in yarmouth what can you expect in places like wroxham, stalham or potter. alan
  17. hiya!!! just been on the national news of storm warnings for yarmouth and lowestoft, with tidal surges peaking not tonight but at 7o'clock in the morning. yes you were right dick. alan
  18. very very windy up here in the north-east, not a cloud in the sky but very cold. a shower, mid after-noon but i think it's a night to stay indoors. alan
  19. hi barry!. i will have a wild guess and say sutton staithe but the year ? alan
  20. yes brian, paul o connor did my test, in my opinion he was just the right man, did the job right, not too strict, but correct, if he could help you he did and i was very happy with his bill. brian! he was at fineway when he tested mine. alan
  21. point taken mowjo, i wasn't aware of that problem, although i must say i do use the cooking oil and only the washing-up liquid as a last resort alan
  22. baz! these heaters are ace but can be expensive, are you thinking of new, if not there is place on the broads that do refurbished units and comes complete with thermostat , control box, exhaust, the lot, just to fit in. bought one myself 4 years ago and no problems just read a thread on nbf about noise etc from running this type heater, but it's nice to be warm it's only noisy on the outside but not excessive alan
  23. i read on the shorebase website where he had used BLACK TAR VARNISH for his anti fouling. apparently many hire yards use this product as it is only a fraction of the price of antifoul he is talking of £12 for 5 litres ,easy to roll on and finish around the water line with the real stuff of your preferred colour. alan
