From someone who has experience of trying this in the past I do understand the issues that BRAG is dealing with right now. I am not advocating that The NBN take over as THE medium for BRAG IMHO it would not work even if the software allowed it to which I don't believe it can. All I am asking for is a declaration of intent to support BRAG financially which once again IMHO they are going to need sooner rather than later. And then they can gauge the true measure of support from us " Little People"

Don't know if it's appropriate to post this but would it be a good idea for us to show our willingness or otherwise to financially support BRAG. If it is allowed to stand I will be the first to declare that I am willing to make a financial contribution

So do I MT. To me it seemed to be the only viable option. Unfortunately I would think that would entail some financial investment. For us on the outside it's time to put our Hands in our pockets IMHO Well it's better than The BA with their hands in there 😜

If only you could have seen the speed that Mrs FF moved when our Hooligan removed a sandwich from the table when we first had him.😳 He was chased across the kitchen and his mouth opened and the sandwich removed promptly. It was just about a year ago when we first got him but he has never tried it since 😁

That is a change in policy over the last few years then as I have definitely spoken to people who have stayed there with dogs . Best to give them a ring I think. If the information above is correct then give Wayford Bridge Hotel a call as they are definitely dog friendly. And are sponsor's of this site Thinking about it We stayed there on New Year's Eve a few years ago and had our dog with us👍

MM I don't lightly call for regime change for the very fact that you state above. Better the devil you know etc. During my limited time on The Broads compared to some I have largely been a supporter of The BA and have shook my head in dismay at the many BA bashers who have populated the Broads Fora But I have felt pushed into my current attitude by the constant above inflation tolls increases compound by this year's blatant money grab and then to add insult to injury attempting a further money grab by charging for 24 HR Free moorings already paid for in our Tolls. For the record I see you are largely in favour of the mooring charges. Could you also state your position on the 13% Tolls increase.

And do you know what I agree with you I don't have the background that you have but I do have a love of the Broads. I also fear that the current management is doing untold harm.

In my first example I do think the yard were at fault. In the second not so as I said they were experienced hirers so should have seen the risks involved in hiring that style of boat.

Further to what Vaughan says above. The boat suitability is a major issue. The one I quoted at Ranworth was indeed a bathtub type so probably the best for access. 👍 Last year at Oulton Broad Yacht Station I and some friends pulled a man from the water who had fallen in whilst attempting to moor. I cannot recall the boat type but it was one with high freeboard and had steps like small handrails on the stern for access which had been crushed and were useless. The helm had done the right thing and had cut the engine and the casualty was clinging to the pontoon when we arrived. It took myself Mrs FF and an able bodied friend to haul him out. He was bleeding from a head wound and was kept in hospital overnight, released the next day. Needless to say no lifejacket 😣 The whole crew although all pretty mobile were in their 80's and experienced hire Boaters. But IMHO the boat was totally unsuitable.

I will not labour the examples of public transport or the fantastic work done by The Nancy Oldfield Trust. What I will do is quote an extreme example. I helped a boat stern moor at Ranworth around 3 or 4 years ago. The crew were all elderly 2 of which were Wheelchair users. The 3rd was the most mobile of them and could get around on his feet with the aid of 2 sticks. To get off the boat he was able to shuffle on his bottom until his feet touched ground then with the aid of his sticks stand up and walk slowly. Someone tell me that is safe Moreover can someone explain the thinking of the Hire Company that let them out.

And do you think it's safe to have a wheelchair user on a boat.😳 I know I am going to be controversial now but I do not. If and when I can't get on and off a boat unaided is the time for me , and anyone with a modicum of sense, to give up boating. Incoming expected 🫣
