  1. On the wearing of face-masks in shops I really do not think the confusion is down to the media but to government ministers and the Prime Minister saying or implying different messages and yes you have to trust the people but they need clear guidance. The government has a very difficult job to do but on this issue they have confused the situation. I'm certainly not obsessed with the rules but realise they are there for a reason and I am also using my own self discipline, with the facts I have to conduct the way I approach the situation. Fred
  2. I always thought Applegate's where on both sides of the river and the dykes where the day boats are now belonged to them? Fred
  3. I found this on a Bebington health centre web page. https://www.civicmc.nhs.uk/noval-coronavirus/facial-coverings-and-exemption-cards/ Fred
  4. I think the government should have thought this through better. I always give them the benefit of the doubt when it comes to Coronavirus issues because of the uniqueness of the problem but on this issue they really have made a pigs ear of it, with conflicting messaging being a serious concern. Fred
  5. The ones I wear do but not very effective. Reminds me of clubs I used to go to when younger (much)!!! Fred
  6. From what I can tell in the case of public transport you can apply or download from most operators web sights. Less practical for shops but something should have been put in place before the 24th. Or at least I would have hoped so. If the rules are to be the same as applied to public transport then the face covering does not necessarily have to be a mask, a silk scarf or the like suffices. Fred
  7. The Sabena livery was pretty loud as was popular at the time but they did think out the box when it came to their fitouts. Fred
  8. Hi Arthur, nothing as extreme as you suffered, only the steaming up of the spectacles which is just a bit of a bind. I would imagine you will be able to carry a card exempting you from wearing one as you already can when using public transport but fine details have still to be announced. Fred
  9. Much later advert (1948) for the Yarmouth excursion steamers. Fred
  10. Another gem of a photo Vaughan.
  11. I think she is the "Queen of the Broads" but there were a couple of steamers around at this period which I presume to be the early 1900s. I know her funnel dropped to navigate bridges. Fred
  12. Listened to the archers ever since Caroline Bone had her affair with Brian Aldridge. Have to agree, the Cov-19 monologues are a dirge, sure they could have done better. Perhaps they should have got Alan Bennett on the case! Fred
  13. I did not realise you were charged to go under Wroxham Bridge. Does the policy vary from yard to yard? Fred
  14. Definitely a couple of notches above your normal Broads offerings and more akin to a good city restaurant. Only ate there twice and not in the last few years but when we did the food was outstanding. As long as it has not altered it would make a good place to visit for that special occasion meal. Fred
  15. Silver Solano on the River Yare at Langley last week. In my opinion the class is the best fitted out 4 berth cruiser for hire on the Broads. Robert Dye's craftsmanship is second to none. Fred
  16. Is it comfy on the fence?
  17. Sorry could not resist and definitely not personal. Whatever you think of BBC T.V. or radio is in my view not the argument. It has and will evolve, sometimes we like and other times not. I personally hate the dumbing down of it's serious radio stations and the way it's news service is ever so careful not to be biased, resulting, at least on T.V. for it to be somewhat bland and accused of just what it is trying to avoid by both the left and the right. What is important is that we have an independent national media channel in a world of extreme and frankly nasty social channels were, if you want, you can listen for hours to people who think just as you but your ideas are never challenged, you will never get the other point of view and this leads to extremism as can be seen growing in todays society. So in my eyes the BBC should not be worried about being mainstream but be there to inform, to educate and to break new grounds in entertainment. To be avant garde and that in my view that should always be the objective of a national broadcaster. How we fund that I'm not sure. I tend to agree the license fee is outdated. Perhaps a government grant backed by advertising is the answer as long as we ensure it is free from commercial and political pressure. Fred p.s. Worth keeping just for "The Archers."
  18. So we have to send a reasoned well thought out answer to all those who put out ill-informed and risible arguments whom the herd all then press their like buttons. I think not. Give us a thumbs down, it's only democratic. Fred
  19. I'm all for anything Roman...........but that's another story. Fred
  20. If you saw the reply I was about to give someone before I counted to ten.............now that was negative!
  21. I was thinking exactly the same.
  22. Sorry but this is a simplistic and ill-considered argument. If they are being paid £1.75 million, whoever your referring to, would obviously be missed by a lot of people if not you. That the BBC produces shows were stars can ask for that sort of salary is another matter. I agree with a lot of your argument but what do you replace the license with and stop the drift to popularism that has plagued the BBC in recent years. Even Radio 3 and Radio 4 have succumbed to this trend of late. A national independent broadcaster is a asset to the the culture and general life of this nation so while agreeing the licence is outdated I really do not think replacing it with by subscription service is the answer. It should be there for everyone on demand when required. As for it's political stance I find it rather boringly stuck in the middle and unwilling to confront issues but I accept this is probably down to my personal politics. Compered to Channel 4 and Sky News which in my eyes seem to have a very left wing bias I find it's news service tame and boring. Fred
