  1. Hi, Thanks David, that also makes sense, The flexible exhaust pipe passes through the cavity where the inlet air is drawn from. I had not thought about this heating the inlet air. Something else to put down to experience! Thanks Ian
  2. Hi, Paul, that makes a lot of sense, the inlet for the moment is just under the exhaust. So time to move the inlet..... Thanks Ian
  3. Hi, Fired up the heater on the boat today, ran fine on start up however when turned down it slowed down but then cut out. The fan continued to run but the fuel pulse stopped. This has done this a few times. (was nice and warm on the boat, Liz happy ) Any thoughts? Ian
  4. David, Yes that is the plan, try and slow her up, too many complaints about her bow wave Ian
  5. Hi, Taken the plunge and picking up a Honda EU10i tomorrow. Ian
  6. In her younger days Tamara (my boat) was a bit of a slapper, she would go with anyone for a few shillings. Now in her more mature years she has settled down and is quite faithful, so her days of paying customers are over. Ian
  7. Hi, Trevor,we have one of those already and they did a good job last year. Our one is not as good as the plugs fit down the centerline so the plug leads get in the way of the next plug. Your one is better as the plugs are orientated across the unit. David, I have now ordered a Sterling 1250CED unit Ian
  8. Perry, It might be worth looking at the size of fuse for the immersion and therefore peak draw, if it is 5A (1200w?) it might be OK. A 4A fuse would be better if they existed. Anyone have a calculation for the size of Kit Kat wrapper you need for 4A? Ian
  9. Hi, For us a factor is the size and weight weight of the generator. The Honda EU10i is small , and the 900w output ( 65A at 14v?) will power the battery charger, today's thoughts are for a Sterling 1250CED (50A) charger, and a smaller battery bank of 150AH. The Honda EU20 would be better as it would run under load at about half power and give a bit more spare power for other things. I intend to go to Lings the Honda dealer in Lowestoft in the next few weeks and look at them both. Perry, the Honda generators state their noise output at quite low outputs, will your high power item be used for a long or short burst? Ian
  10. Hi Perry, I have been looking at the same thing, this has helped. http://www.victronenergy.com/upload/doc ... r%20GB.pdf It looks like there will be a lag in the generator pick up on both the Honda 10 and 20 unit. The Phoenix multi plus does look like the solution, however at a cost (£639 JG Tech for a 12/1200/50). I will be getting a Honda eu10i for the boat by Easter and will use it to power a battery charger for the moment while I look at our power requirements on the boat in the real world rather than on paper. Hope this helps Ian
  11. Hi, I am about to install a shore power system, with one two 240v sockets and a feed to battery charger. The consumer unit (fuse/trip/junction box), are there any units for boats that are something like IP56 rated. Ian (5 weeks and counting)
  12. Hi, I would not of thought lifting the outboard should be a problem, unless there was crud in the bottom of the tank and that has entered the carb. If you can get to it, take the spark plug out and have a look at its colour. Having had a service the plug should be quite new without any heavy deposits. Black crud on the electrode might indicate oil entering the bore, white flaky bits that the engine is running lean (both could also be a fuel supply problem, or plug not changed at service ). Either way I suspect the service has changed something. Hope this helps Ian
  13. Hi, I am convinced that Raymarine will have tested the unit well, but some times things are used in a way the manufacturer did not expect. At work we had a order for our hose clips to be used for clamping a radio transmitter to a Walrus tusk, (not an application we had tested). Ian
  14. Hi David, I think you are right to keep with your original plan, the older system will have been used and tested by many people. The new system might have extra bits but might not have all the bugs sorted. Ian
  15. The thing now has a ring. By the way interesting to see how people's minds work
  16. David, Why did I not ask first? Typical I have bodged a solution to problem that has already been solved! Ian
  17. Hi Mowjo, I have the same thoughts as you, the silicone sheet I have sourced from RS components (good stuff but expensive), and have already used on the transom exhaust fitting. A collar will be fitted around the pipe and over the fabric heat cover but will be a snug fit to reduce vibration. Tamara has a outboard bracket with anti vibration mounts so vibration is not a major problem but is still there to some extent, so I will keep an eye on the exhaust condition. Thanks Ian :santa:
  18. Jonny and Happy Jax II, I think you are close enough, the exhaust on the heater I am installing will go through a wooden bulkhead. The plug hole will fit on the hole with an air gap around the fitting and the exhaust pipe will be held in the middle of the fitting. I am a bit concerned that the teeth might wear through the exhaust pipe so will add some extra protection. Ian :santawave:
  19. Jonny is right with the first bit, It was a sink plug hole fitting. So what is it now and will it work! Ian.
  20. Paul, Good try but the sharp bits have been rounded off to stop it cutting.... Ian
  21. Hi, Made this up for a job on the boat, so as per the title, What was it? What is it now? Do you think it will work? Ian
  22. Hi, I was looking at the boats batteries and noticed they are marked 5amp bench charge rate. The battery bank is of the 75amp/hour leisure type with 2 working and one spare. The plan is to set up a charging system for the boat but I do not want to 'over cook' the batteries when charging, so assuming two will need charging are they limited to a 10amp total charge rate? Any thoughts? Ian :santa:
  23. Thanks for the info, I've taken the plunge and using it now, and it does seem quicker! Thanks again Ian
