Hi,
These are the small gas cylinders with a female screw thread fitting. It looks like these are still available, but my question is can they be found in the Broads area and does anybody use them on their boat?

On a different tack ( ) I was reading today in an engineering magazine about a power cable to be laid from the Continent to the Isle of Grain. If you had to rely on a magnetic compass for night or fog navigation, do these cables make much difference to your readings?

Hi,
An interesting article. It's strange how you assume things like copper and oil will not corrode. What is worse was I already knew it was a problem but not in the context of the boat. Vintage vehicle gearboxes contained bronze bearings and some oils in the 1980's leached the copper out of the bearings and caused mechanical failure.
I have always used cunifer on brake lines and also used it for the fuel lines on the boat so looks like it will be ok.

Hi,
I have been looking up the BSS rules for fuel tanks on the boat. Section 2.5.1/R states to avoid Copper in a Diesel system. I have used copper brake pipe for the fuel line to the heater. Will I have to replace it with steel?
Any thoughts?
Ian ?
Hi,
David I have to agree with you regards the rust days.
I am now trying to re-frame the rusty days as Hematite (black but nice).
Must admit I did hope for a Diamond time when on holiday.

David,
The plasma screens are planned and will display a wood grain picture to reduce the visual impact.
Perry,
Bakelite, I am a bit concerned the movement of the yacht will cause stress cracking.
However we could strip out the radio and fit our new fridge inside
Ian 3 weeks on the Broads starting this Friday
Hi,
Looking outside at the moment has reminded me we were thinking about getting a radio on the boat for the wet days. On the Broads is there any advantage with one of the digital things or is a FM radio better. We have some long wire bits that hold up the mast can these be used as an aerial ?

Hi,
I do agree with Marshman crevice corrosion can occur very quickly where stainless is covered in a salt water environment. The type of stainless 304 or 316 will not change this situation.
If you spot brown stains on or around your stainless take the item off and check for corrosion on the hidden face.

Hi,
I think I asked this question on another post, but when you had the legs rebuilt did they go back on the same side they came off.
This website refers to directions of rotations of props on port and starboard sides.

Hi David,
That might be handy.
The 7 day timer is working well.
By simulating the boat set up in the garage I think the first bend in the outlet duct might be the problem. It runs at full power ok with a straight duct, but when the duct is bent 90deg the problems start.
Time to review the ducting I think....
Thanks
Ian
Hi David,
I am glad you confirmed the removal of the switch and black box.
I think I am now starting to make sense on the problem. The D2 unit was supplied with a D1LC wiring diagram with the main connector unit being 14 connections.
I now realize the D2 unit has a 16 unit connection and different colours!
Will post on Friday if it works!
Thanks
Ian
Hi,
The heater is now back in the shed and works fine but It is not connected to duct or the exhaust silencer.
However I have brought a 7 day timer to fit as it has a diagnostic function, but not certain what wires to connect. The original black box with the unit looks unique to BT , and I can't find any reference to it in the wiring diagrams. Can I assume the box and the control knob are replaced by the 7 day unit?
Any thoughts?
Ian
Simon,
You talked about loads for filters being changed, other than the engine did the gearbox and brake fluid get changed?
Did your regular travel route change before the service. Could the service might have made you check the fuel consumption and assumed the service was the change point ?
