  1. Hi, Now having moved up to a new laptop and vista, what is this Firefox thing and is there any advantage for me being a basic internet user? Ian
  2. Looks like i've changed my name to Dan Horner!!!
  3. Hi Simon, Have you checked the brakes if they are getting hot, as a small amount of binding could cause problems. Ian
  4. I can confirm the shine, sunglasses are required ( not a wave but Perry's polishing technique ) Ian
  5. Jonny, Good idea however, what I also should have said is that in the story they came off Breydon going up to Beccles, and the yard was just past the Roman walls. Ian
  6. We looked at a property at Walcot about 2 years ago. It was a bungalow (needed plenty of work, asbestos?) 1 acre of land, backing on to fields. It was at least 1/2 a mile form the cliffs. What concerned us was why it was only 80K. A bit of digging around uncovered a North Norfolk erosion plan. The bungalow was expected to be lost in 30 years. The erosion spoil being washed down the coast to protect higher density housing. It is sad if people loose their homes to the sea but this has always happened. Is this a case of people getting a bargain then expecting the tax payer to pay for its protection? Ian
  7. So what is the oldest yard on the Broads? When reading 'The Coot club' 1930's it refered to boatyards in Horning and Wroxham. What I did not expect was mention in the book of a boat yard offering repairs and safe morings off Breydon. The location sounds like Goodchilds. Being at Burgh Castle, there is the potental to go back to Roman times and beyond! Ian
  8. Robin & Jonny, Tamara will be going to Colin Buttifants yard next weekend for her winter lay up. I will have a talk with Colin or his son Paul about the instalation. Paul Buttifant tends to lookafter Tamara now and her varnish work and the hull finish is down to him. The quality of the work is superb. Jonny, Hunters yard pride themselves on yachts with no modern systems (with the exception of gas cookers I believe). The thought of a Eberspacher on a boat would have me shot Ian
  9. Mowjo, Thanks for the link, that is the fitting I was going to use or make one from bronze same design but longer (better cooling?). What I did not notice was that the fitting was also for wooden hulls. As Tamara's hull is 70 years old I do not want to do anything that will cause damage, so I am taking my time to check out all the angles. When I have decided I am going to do a mock up of the Hull section in the shed and try the heater flat out for a few hours to see what happens. Thanks for the info Ian
  10. Hi Jonny, I was thinking along those lines. Metal pipe will carry the exhaust heat down to the fitting on the wood hull. If it is covered in a insulation cover the heat it would have lost will be carried to the hull fitting increasing the problem. I have looked at aramid fiber reinforced silicon hoses that are designed for taking exhaust gasses but I am not convinced this will work but a short section might help the problem. How the BSS would deal with this is another matter... Ian
  11. Hi, Has anyone out there fitted an Eberspacher hull fitting to a wooden hull? I am concerned the angled stainless fitting still will get very hot and burn the wood. The other thing is on Ebay ( 150179147067I ) noticed there was an exhaust silencer for sale, but there was the normal one and a larger version that I have not seen else where. Is there an advantage with the larger version (noise reduction) on a D2 Eberspachier, or is it for larger systems. Thanks Ian
  12. Jonny, Gave up with the weekend, but thanks for the thought. This was the Island at Ranworth, and a few hours later the water was up by another 2 inches.
  13. Hi, We are about to head up to Ranworth and will arrive about high tide, so If any members have a boat there and want me to give it a quick check, please let me know. Ian & Liz
  14. Some of the roads around Yarmouth now opening. Ian
  15. All roads to Yarmouth closed, and Acle shut as well. Ian
  16. Perry, Yes we have been seduced by being on warm boats! The ex BT (heater works shame about their broadband) system is in our garage rigged up on a bench and working well. It would have been even better if it was on the boat for this weekend. Thanks for the info on removing the knob, with a bit of pressure it came off OK. Last weekend on the boat Ian
  17. Hi, I have just brought a ex BT Eberspacher heater. My problem is trying to remove the rotary control switch from the cage. There is no retaining screw visible, does the iluminated knob just pull off? Looking forward to the replies on this one Ian
  18. Hi, I was looking at a Nikon a few months ago as I had always had Canon film SLRs, and thought it was time for a change. When I went to the shop and tried them out I ended up with a Canon D400 and I am very impressed. Shutter lag was a problem with my old digital compact but there is no problem now with the Canon. When you do buy, haggle it works! Ian (end of season)
  19. As our outboard is in the water for the season we tend to build up foul on the leg & prop. In past years I have scraped it off with a bit of wood. Is there a better solution for cleaning and some coating to protect it for next year? Ian
  20. I think we will go for a matrix. Before we go for it I am going to check with Tamara's doctor to see if will cause problems with her wood interior/hull. I would like to tuck the exhuast under the overhang of the hull rather than in the transom. This will be underwater while sailing but at that point the heater would not be in use. Ian
  21. We have been looking at the same type of system, I noticed this on Ebay, sorry can't do a proper link! Ebay item 190165051030 What do you think is it OK? Ian
  22. It looks like I will sort out an adaptor for our shore power lead, so the info has been very handy thanks Ian
  23. Jill, When we purchased Tamara her mudweight was 2x56s. I think that was when my bad back started....
  24. Any thoughts on these, as I will need to fit one in a 3/4inch pipe from the bilge pump. The outlet is only just above the waterline and under the water when heeled over when sailing. The manual pump has a non return system built in but the electric pump does not. If I just join into the outlet pipe alone the manual pump will return the water to the bilge via the electric pump. Are there any better than others? Ian
