Seamaster V Lytton.?

Hi all, I haven't been on to the network for ages. Just wondered if anybody had any advice.. I was considering buying a boat, have looked at a few & quite liked a couple. One was a Seamaster 27, the other a Lytton 850. I previously had a Seamaster 8 so know they're pretty good. The 27 is older than the Lytton but think the boat has been looked after & esp the engine (perkins diesel). The Lytton is a good boat but not sure as seems to be a lot of white fibreglass esp in the cockpit which I'm not too keen on & not sure if the engine has been as well looked after (Thorneycroft 1.8 d) tho it has everything I need - also thought the Seamaster seemed a stronger constructed boat. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks - Si.

The Lytton 850 is an Elysian 27ft aft cockpit with a different deck and cabin,  fixed cockpit hard top  (front half of cockpit) and quite often a larger engine.  As such the hulls of Elysians are plenty strong enough for the broads

I've had a lytton for the last 16 years the cockpit is a lot of plastic but inside mine it's all teak it's also twin 4107 s enjoyed it very much but we are getting older so bought a boat with the beds made up I built a box in cockpit for the fridge carpet it and put my seat on top

The benefit of there being lots of GRP is that there's less wood to maintain.

Each to their own I guess - I'd prefer an older boat to have lots of GRP than masses of wood to replace or re-varnish.

Seamaster for me, the availability of good examples indicate they last well and the soft top on the Broads widens your cruising options.

We have a seamaster 27 at the moment, good solid boat and a good perkins engine in it. We regularly go through Potter. Unfortunately we are going to have to sell her due to the purchase of Judith. We were in the process of updating her but now will just get her sale ready for someone else to make her their own.

We had a couple of Elysians on our hire fleet in the 70's and 80's and had no issues with their construction, but likewise my experience with the old Seamasters are also good. Make your choice on engine and condition would be my advice.
