VetChugger
Saw this elsewhere! "There are no trains on those days but no access for the bridge operator if the bridge is open for river traffic unlike Somerleyton where there is a walkway to the station." Makes sense if you think about it.
TheQ
If the bridge is open for river traffic then someone, the other operator must have opened it, he can just close it again to get his replacement. You can see the network rail vans parked to the left of the track north of the bridge it's just a short walk.. The announcement is the bridge is Closed to river traffic!!! A total wrong excuse for illegally keeping the bridge closed.
grendel
yes but if they are leaving the bridge unmanned over the christmas period, they cant leave it open, or the operator would be stranded the wrong side of the river, is I think what is being said. dnks34
With all the engineering expertise on the payroll at Network Rail are they not able to come up with a solution to a simple problem? Is this new or has it always been the case at Reedham?
TheQ
basically Network rail don't want to pay the Christmas overtime to keep a man on duty..
dnks34
I wonder how they would manage if the bridge became stuck open and engineering staff couldn't get across to it for repairs or the operator couldn't get back to go home. I can half understand them not wanting to pay out wages but its still not good enough just to abandon their responsibilities to navigation even if it is Christmas day. The bridge could easily be left open and the operator brought back across in a dinghy, it isn’t difficult.
