Hello I am now just a few weeks away from my first trip on the broads for many years as I have said before I am taking my two teenage sons , I have been reading many bits of information and watching many you tube videos, so I ask the question how busy is the broads normally over the Easter period 1st april - 4th april as from what I have read it can be fairly busy , my concern is mooring and finding the space to , anyone know what I should expect , I was 11 last time I went some 30+ years ago but

it was summertime and I can just remember it was quite busy then ,:)

If the sun shines then private boaters will be out as well hirers, if its not so good whether wise it will be lot quieter. but I hope the weather is good for your trip.

It should be fine, many of the private boat owners will be at the meet at Oulton Broad. ;)

I am sure you will have a great time autoteach, if you are on the southern rivers around Oulton Broad over Easter, pop in and say hello.

Hi

Easter is usually fairly busy as it’s the traditional start of the holiday season and of course the school holidays. Having said that there are a lot fewer hire boats than there were 30 years ago although there are more private boats.

It’s usually the popular spots like Ranworth and Horning that are busiest and also have relatively few public moorings. One idea is to moor up at say 11 in the morning or 3 in the afternoon at busy places when most people are on the move. If you hire a dinghy you can mud weight at Ranworth which is another option. It is also possible to reserve a mooring at the New Inn in Horning.

Also don’t forget you can moor at hire yards – if there are a few boats out there should be plenty of space. This is particularly handy at Wroxham and Horning although the Horning hire yards are a bit of a walk from the main village.

As others have mentioned, the Southern Broads tend to be a bit quieter and well worth a look if you need some space!

But basically relax and enjoy. Have a good one!!
