jillR
golden light needs a new daddy/mumsy who can keep up with her and do her Justis i flatter myself that i saved her life as she was in a situation of neglect when i found her and would have drifted into a state of no return where she was. that was 9 years ago and i have since done extensive work on her replacing the transom, repairing the decks, replacing the wheel house roof, repairing the sides of the sliding wheel house, replacing the runners, epoxying the decks and roofs ect, getting her up to BSS standard and all of the work you see in this thread, i also fitted central heating run off a multifuel stove which is fitted in such a way that it is hardly noticable and heats the water too and its self circulating so that no pumps are needed. she is a special boat and its been a pleasure to have her own me for 9 years. jill
jillR
ive been naughty and not started my engine all winter (BMC 2.5) i decided it was about time today i turned the key without leaving any time for the heater plugs and off she went no bother, 1st turn of the key as always. jill
Happy Jax 3
Hi Jill You clearly must have your reasons to make such a decission to put Golden Light up for sale, It is always diffilcult when you have devoted so much time and energy into a project to make these choices. Please keep the resto thread going until such time she is sold, I have always enjoyed reading this thread an looked forward to the next chapter. It will be missed. Guest
Hi Jill & Col she must have such a nice sound coming from the exhaust i could listen to it for hours Jonny
jillR
thanks jonny and col the fact is im financially and physically past being able to do her justice for much longer and would hate to see her go down hill. my promise to GL was that as long as i was able to stay on top and hopefully go forward i would remain. shes been a brill place to bring up a daughter and a pleasure to live in and i consider myself very lucky. when i replaced the transom board, parts of the internal sections of the open aft well deck were removed, so replacing them is the next job. jill
jillR
the open aft well deck is now prepared for work to begin rebuilding the steps etc the bilges have had another coat of ali primer and the bench that suports the rudder stock has had a coat of ali primer and undercoat ready for gloss painting. jillR
saturdays work consisted of cutting priming and fitting the beam at the back to suport the new bench that will go in above the rudder bench. cutting the board to fix to the rudder bench ready for priming one side and staining and varnishing the other. the rudder bench has been primed and undercoated and will have couple of gloss coats later. jill
jillR
the work is still going forward but at the moment as boards are being measured up and cut, they are being taken back out to be painted or stained and varnished so that all surfaces are weather proofed so no pickys at the mo. jill
jillR
some pickys of whats been hapening sam is building a locker into the starboard side it was a gas locker, as there were two previously, but it will now be a storage locker that can house a spare gas bottle or ropes etc with removable shelves and a hinged door. the light wood frames and trims are in iroko for durability also the new floor will be iroko. most of what you see has been removed again for more paint and varish and sealing of end grain. Springsong
Hi Jill I hope this warmer weather suits you better. I must say I do like to see that oh so clean look that grey bilge paint gives to a wooden boat. She is looking good and is a credit to you Jill. jillR
thanks barry sam put a few hours in last w/e its nearly time to make the steps, the tops and floor will be iroko. the edgings are iroko to, as its a dense oily hard wearing wood. the bottom is iroko so i know it will all agree. jillR
the reason why the aft was taken apart was for the restoration of the transom in 2001, a scary job. i could have patched it up but decided that for strength and durability, i would replace the lot with a one inch thick board of marine ply hand picked from edens and thoroughly west system epoxied on sides and end grains before fitting. the refit of the inside of the aft well dropped to the bottom of the list for more pressing jobs. Springsong
I did wonder about your transom, so that's how you did it, a good idea looks great, that West system is really super gear is it not. Have you used yacht varnish throughout or polyurethane ? I am assuming yacht great finishes.
