I saw the boat last year at Horning Boat Show, it looked lovely and a really good idea.

Good luck to him... we spoke to him at horning, although there was more of a crowd around his hand made propellers.. he should sell them! although if the workmanship of them is anything to go by the boats will be top notch!

The idea of pedal power for canoes has been around for quite a while now, with many successful DIY efforts and proprietary kits around.

I've always had a hankering to go one stage further though, as some have done, with a truly amphibious canoe. That you can cycle to the waters edge, then continue afloat, and in one case, straight down the slip, with no adjustments !

Here's another idea, where the designer has configured it so that the wheels are detachable in the water, so that it paddles conventionally.

I wish these folk well but I suspect that the market is infinestimatable. The boat looks dated, has limited use and is costly, especially when compared with a sit-on kayak.

I have to agree with you there Peter, I'm a great fan of sit on kayaks myself.

 

In fact "Hobie" have been producing an excellent pedal powered kayak for some years now, with a very clever underwater paddle system.
